I am in day 2 after cataract surgery in one eye. When I eventually need my other eye done, I definitely plan to go back to Dr. Silk. He’s very patient with all my questions and, most importantly, I’m extremely happy with the results. I should mention that the hospital staff at Virginia Hospital Center all seemed both cheerful and competent, which is a big plus.

This is the first time i have ever written a review online for any place but i have never left a doctor’s office so upset i just had to share.
I have been suffering from a watery, swollen eye for months and have been to numerous doctors who couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I chose this office based on reviews but I regret ever going there. I don’t have insurance and made sure they Knew that when I booked an appointment. The receptionist on the phone quoted me between $ 90-​$ 115 for my visit. When I got there, Dr Silk examined my eye and told me I had a blocked tear duct. He asked if he could try draining fluid through it to see if any would go through, I said yes. He then got a syringe and used a blunt needle to poke my tear duct. It HURT. He said he couldn’t see it properly so he tried again, first with brighter lights, then ocular goggles, then a magnifying machine at multiple settings. By the end of it I was shaking and in tears and asked him to stop. He never even made it into the tear duct but stopped anyways and told me he would refer me to another doctor because he said his facility didn’t have the equipment to finish the job. Mind you this is an EYE SURGICAL CENTER and all I needed was to unclog a tear duct. He then told me to wait outside and left the room. When I checked out, I was told my bill was $ 245 for «having a procedure done». What procedure??? He couldn’t even get in my eye, sent me to someone else and charged me MORE THAN TWICE what was quoted on the phone. I told the receptionist I was told it wouldn’t be more than $ 115, and she said she could drop it down to $ 210. Still almost twice what I was initially told! Not once did the doctor or anyone tell me it would cost more to repeatedly poke my eye, which isn’t even a real procedure. He didn’t fix anything with my eye, instead told me to see someone else. The receptionist apologized but I still had to pay for this «procedure». I’ve seen multiple eye doctors and this is by far the worst visit I have ever had. The didn’t even give me notes to give to the doctors they referred me to, instead I was told by doctor silk to just make an appointment and let the other doctors figure out what to do. I asked the receptionist for doctors notes and she was able to provide them to me. I’m very upset, I wish I would have been given more information on his findings and didn’t have to leave in tears, out $ 210 and an eye that felt worse than when I had gotten there. I will NEVER RETURN.

When I made the decision to get LASIK, I began by reading reviews for local doctors. The number of 5 star reviews for Dr Silk, and the fact that his office was able to schedule me for a visit immediately, brought me in.
From the beginning, Dr Silk was extremely meticulous about explaining the details of the procedure, and the benefits and risks. His pricing was very clear (no hidden fees or office visit copays) and better than other eye centers in the area.
I’d highly recommend Dr Silk. He’s very professional, has a great staff, and puts a high priority on patient care and comfort.

This is a review update. Upon seeing my other review, Dr. Silk made an effort to reach out to me to explain what happened or that he felt there may have been a misunderstanding. In fairness I feel I should disclose that and mention it seems like he is helpfully sensitive to patients’ sentiments and feelings. The fact that he called me, emailed me and also left a message on Unilocal shows he tried to make things «right» and for that I felt I should update and disclose his courtesy/​sensitivity to unhappy (or misunderstood) patients.

Dr. Silk performed my LASIK about a week and a half ago. I have been seeing him for my eye care for a few months now, leading up to my LASIK and he has been wonderful. He has a great bedside manner and is a true, honest professional. I would recommend him for LASIK and also for general ophthalmology any day.

I recently had LASIK surgery with Dr. Silk as my surgeon. I can’t recommend him enough! I had lots of questions (after all, you only get two eyeballs and they don’t grow back) but he answered them all. Both his pre-​surgical and after-​care are very meticulous and professional.
Two other LASIK centers had evaluated me for surgery (one for, one against) when I came to Dr. Silk. It was his thoroughness and insistence on details that led me to trust my eyes and vision to him, and I couldn’t be happier.

For nearly three years I had been struggling with Recurrent Corneal Erosions. Every night I went to bed fearing I would abruptly awake with dagger-​like pain shooting through my left eye. It totally sucked. Before Dr. Silk I had visited two opthamologists, and a cornea specialist. Suffice it to say — I was at the end of my rope when I came to Dr. Silk. Unlike my last cornea specialist, Silk was an excellent listener and had many ideas of ways we could address the issue. Silk went on to perform three surgical procedures. I’m not going to say it was fun or easy — it’s freaking eye surgery. But Silk did everything he could to make me comfortable and guide me through the process. Well, it’s been almost two years since my last procedure and my eye feels great. I haven’t had a single relapse and I’m super excited to kiss this problem goodbye. Huge thanks to Dr. Silk.

My mother was having trouble seeing. I researched and found Dr. Silk. Let me say this, my mother… NOT a fan of doctors. But we found Dr. Silk caring, kind, & compassionate. My mother is not a native English speaker, but Dr. Silk explained everything carefully enough so that she understood and was comfortable and at ease. She even trusted him enough to undergo two cataract surgeries under his sure hands. She underwent both surgeries with the least amount of nervousness and was completely fearless for the second one! I felt he made my mother’s case (which was quite severe) a priority and his treatment of her was exceptional. I highly recommend his services.

Dr. Silk is very professional and an excellent eye surgeon. I went for a lasik eye consultation and was immediately impressed with his thoroughness in evaluating my eyes and then every time I met up with him through to finishing the lasik surgery. I am stunned that I can now see ²⁰⁄₂₀ without glasses and have no halos or glare issues. Other eye surgeries & issues are more his forte (he is fully trained in all aspects of the eye) but the care he took with my eyes indicates to me that he is methodical and truly cares about his patient’s vision. I would highly recommend Silk Vision.
