I love this place– the service is quick, the food is great, and the prices are extremely fair. They’re very generous with their portions and it’s a great place to eat in groups… family style is the way to go! Or… come with your actual family! What a treat.

Could be better. Quite disappointed. Tang su yuk was pretty decent but their Gan jjajang was lackluster at best.

Service was okay. A LOT of food in that combo deal — great deal. They upped their prices since 2013, but hey. whatever, it is still a great deal. Who doesn’t love Chinese/Korean food? The FOOD The kang poon gi/sal(bones or without bones) is kind of amazing. THe sweet, spiced garlicky sauce is just addiction-inducing. THINK General Tso but like 1000x better. There is also Tang sook Yuk(uhm sweet and sour beef) It is not like those orangey/ketchupy sauces you get at chinese restaurants for any sweet and sour dish, this stuff is like a clear light brown and tastes tangy sweet. YOUHAVE to try this. I always get a combo plate of the spicy seafood noodle soup and noodles with black bean sauce. This is usually way too much for one sitting and i end up taking the half i didn’t get to home. The seafood soup really is delicious and spicy with mussels, octopus and head-on shrimp(you have been warned) Service The servers will dish up starters(on the house) of raw onions and pickled radish to dip in black bean sauce after being drowned in vinegar with kimchi(cubed radish kind). If you order noodles, they will ask if you want them cut up(scissors) for making it easier to eat. The water/toasted barley tea comes around right when you sit down and the orders are taken rather quickly. They are kind of no nonsense and while they understand English, I find it hard to communicate with them sometimes. The location it looks like it was an old pizza hut, but the parking can get really hard to find when busy(lunch and dinner). The side parking is hard to get out of because there is barely any space. DONOTPARKATTHEBANKNEXTDOOR. YOUWILLGETTOWED. I do love the place, but to my dismay, i have been seeing a little bit of their flavor go down lately… let’s hope they get their act together soon.

Choong Hwa Won, GETOUTTATHEWAY. I’ve recently discovered this gem of a Korean-Chinese restaurant tucked literally down the street from Choong Hwa Won. The portions here are RIDICULOUS and the prices are even better than Choong Hwa Won. I do not understand why I have not been coming here these past couple years. They even make the noodles in house so your champbong(so spicy…) and jjajangmyun here is awesome. Great kimchi, radishes, onion side dishes as well. You can upgrade all your entrees and go with the large. I don’t know how a human can finish such a large portion of food. They also gave us so much tangsooyook and gampoongee that I was about to burst at the end of the night. Of course we had to go get dessert at Kung Fu Tea afterwards, but that is for another review.

The food always comes out in less than 5 minutes. You get typical Korean service — they bring the banchan and leave you alone unless you signal that you need something. No waitresses here coming around asking if you’re food’s okay or what else they can bring you. My favorite is the half half bowl of black bean noodles and spicy seafood noodles. The broth in the jjam bbong(spicy seafood noodles) can get spicy and a bit salty, so taking a break with a bite of the jja jang myun(black bean noodles) is a good combinations. Prices are affordable, and one bowl can definitely feed two if you want to share. If you’re sharing, make sure to get a dish of the khang pung ki(spicy fried chicken) too — it’s a classic combo with a bowl of noodles.

Pretty good Korean noodles and their side dishes are tasty as well. While I don’t eat here on a regular basis, whenever I’m craving jja jang myun or jjampong, this is the place that I choose every time. It’s loud as hell in there, but that’s part of the«experience» I suppose.

I am a Ja-Ja-Meung nut(Korean black bean paste noodles). It was great here, and truly one of the best ones in the area. The service was great, and the folks were very courteous and accommodating. I also the selection in the menu. It has a wide variety of Korean and Chinese dishes. I will be coming back here again.

Mon 8÷26÷133:30PM, Party of 2 9.99 Shrimp Fried Rice 8.99 Pork Gan Jja Jang 10.99 Sam Sun Go Chu Jjam Pong This place has been pretty consistent with Korean-Chinese cuisine for many years now. I only wish more Americans would discover this style of Chinese cuisine aside from Western and Indo-Chinese dishes.

Service was okay and the food was okay as well. The place looks like a former Pizza hut/diner. It’s not big and filled with Koreans so it must be good. The food tasted like homestyle cuisine which is both good and bad. The portions are generous for the price. Will we come back? Ehhh… maybe… P. S. The restroom was pretty nasty. Old and outdated!

Great service. Ordered Togo. Dumpling(5.99)skins are good, inside is bland, jajamyun(the price is great at 6.99) is delicious my fav in the nova area. The tangsuyuk(17.99) is just ok, the sauce and pork could be more flavorful and it’s a bit too pricey. The bibimbap was a bit pricey at 13.99. Probably just go for lunch next time. The packaging was great very clean and organized. Will probably be back. The jajamyun was worth it.

I am back in Seoul. I was about to cry. I missed Korean Chinese food so much!!! Great food here. They even made to noodles by themselve. I would say it might be even better at some places in Seoul.

We came here for late lunch. Ordered boneless chili chicken, jjamja, jajangmen, and samsun jjajang. The noodles were not chewy, rather soggy and sticky. We knew the noodles weren’t fresh because we had to stir the noodle first before eating. The chili chicken was not tender but the chili sauce was good. The service was not good either. We asked for a box but she didn’t even give it to us. Blah experience.

The last time I had Jang Won was probably closer to 6 years ago. I also got food poisoning for the first time in my life at this restaurant. After which I promised myself I would not bother going back. To be honest I didn’t really have a reason to do so either since I am not a fan of these Chinese/Korean type food. This past weekend my family had a field day and they decided to come here to get a economical lunch. With a large group of 15+ people this place had enough room to accommodate us in one of the secluded areas in the side of the restaurant. Since the loser’s of the field day had to buy dinner everyone ordered relatively cheap items. Most people at my table got the combo deal. As for myself I got the combo with fried rice and jjajjangmyun. We also ordered two orders of the sweet and sour pork as an appetizer. This was probably the best item; I usually am not a fan of Chinese style sweet and sour dishes but this was edible. The food came out relatively quickly(~15 mins) considering the amount of people in my party. The fried rice was not greasy but a bit on the bland side. The jjajangmyun was very bland making it hard for me to eat. Even though I am not a fan of jjajangmyun I have had it at other places in Annandale and it’s comparable better than this place. The sole reason why Jang Won is getting 3 stars from me is they give you A LOT of food in that combo deal hence making it a very economical place to grab a meal. Everyone in my party was starving after competing in field day and we all couldn’t finish our food. Don’t let the size of the bowl fool you, it’s deep with lots of food. The service was also very good, waters were refilled quickly and the waitress were quick to take our orders and bring out the food. Maybe next time if I am looking for a cheap place to grab some food Jang Won will come to my mind.

Went there for a late dinner, I was greeted immediately, and all the servers were so polite. I was craving omu rice and boy was it delicious.

Good food, ok service, and that’s basically how it was when we came for two half and half bowls: — Tang soo yuk: sweet and sour pork, pork was less crispy than we have had elsewhere, sauce was nice and thick and clear. — Fried rice: awesome, authentic, loved the smoky flavour. — Jajang noodles: good sauce and toppings, but I was not happy with the stringy noodles, because I was made to feel like I had to chew each spoonful a hundred times so I wouldn’t choke. The service was inconsistent: quick to get us drinks and take and deliver orders, then we were made to sit there a long time before one of the ladies sheepishly asked me if I wanted a takeaway box, then gave us the check. Sure we weren’t in a rush, but I expect a reasonably efficient service no matter what. Plus, four different servers stopped at out table at least once. Would happily go back for fried rice, but I really did not enjoy all that waiting.

There are so many delicious Korean restaurants in Annandale, I’m not sure how this one is still in business. I came here for a family dinner a few weekends ago. We started out with an order of chicken tangsuyuk and a beef tangsuyuk. The chicken, drenched in sauce, LOOKED delicious. However, the chicken had absolutely no flavor at all. I’m not sure what was wrong with the sauce but it provided absolutely no flavor. We ended up sending the dish back. The beef tangsuyuk was ok. A few of us ordered the jjambbong combinations and we all agreed it had no flavor. The soup and noodles weren’t at all spicy and lacked the deep flavor and aroma that jjambbong is supposed to have. Save your time and money and go to one of the other 20 Korean restaurants in Annandale.

I like combo menu. I had Tang-zzam-myun. It was good. There is NO lunch special price for combo menu. But I really enjoyed :-)

Soooo, I’ve tried all the Korean-Chinese restaurants in Annandale, and I have to say that Jang Won surpasses them all. What stands out the most for me here is their family style entrees like tangsooyook or fried mandoo. The tangsooyook is crispy and slathered in a sweet, honey-like sauce and it is so nice to know that you’re not biting into excessive amounts of the flour that coats the beef or pork. Likewise, the mandoo does not have a thick layer of skin stealing all the spotlight from the filling. Ever wondered what separates good mandoo from bad mandoo? It’s the thickness of the skin — thin, almost transparent skin is better. As for the noodles, it’s usually hit or miss for me. On some days, the jjajangmyun or jjambbong will taste great and really hit the spot. On other days, the sauce/broth is missing something or lacking flavor. The noodles, however, are consistently good. Really, it just depends on your luck that day. I always either get the gan jjajangmyun(regular jjajangmyun on steroids — richer sauce w/more meant) or the samsun gochu jjambbong(regular jjambbong on steroids — spicier w/mussels, clams, squid). There is ample seating throughout the restaurant, but beware of the lunch time and dinner time crowds. Jang Won gets packed to the brim in the afternoon/evenings — probably because the prices here are pretty unbeatable!

Jang Won is one of my go-to restaurants when I want to cure a quick craving. Like Jean S., I’m actually surprised by the low ratings on Unilocal. Then again, when you look around, you’ll see people who don’t look like they’d be writing on Unilocal. The food here has always been consistently good and the service is on par with other Korean restaurants. The biggest benefit at Jang Won is the amount of food you get for the price you pay. Many times, I have to share my bowl of noodle soup with my husband because we each cannot finish one individually, so it ends up being even cheaper per person. Their Jjam Bbong is always delicious – great noodles and great broth. Last time, I brought my parents, so we also ordered the Sizzling Seafood Jjam Bbong and it was amazing! There are a lot of options on the menu, and if you’ve never had Korean food before, it can be a bit overwhelming. Sadly, most of the servers here don’t speak English, so hopefully you can use Unilocal as your guide. I wouldn’t recommend their Bulgolgi though… it’s pretty dry here. There are a bunch of combos as well in case you want to try two entrees in one visit. TL;DR: a great restaurant to visit – food’s always consistent, there’s plenty of tables for big families, and very reasonably priced.
