Sun & Snow Sports

This location only has the snow sports. Luckily that was what I needed when trying to prep for an early spring skiing vacation. First time I went there was to get some boot fitting help. Rod, the boot fitting guy I talked to there, knows his stuff. I would definitely recommend him. I had just gotten a brand new pair of technica boots when I was out skiing earlier and one side was making my foot go numb when I ski. The boot fitters where I got them said to crank down more, which just made my whole leg go numb. So I took my boots to Sun & Snow — they had gotten lots of good reviews and I needed help before I went back out. Rod at Sun and Snow knew exactly the problem. He broke my boot down to the lining and broke down the shell. After tweaking the lining and bumping the shell out I walked around and it seemed to feel better. I was hoping it worked because I could only tell after a few runs and unfortunately MI decided to jump into summer right then so testing them out here was out. I’d have to test them out on my trip to Switzerland. Didn’t want to have to get help there in addition to a language barrier.
Well I didn’t have to worry because the first day I tried them they rocked! No problems whatsoever. Felt like the best boots I had in 20 yrs. I was super happy.
I also went there another time looking for low light goggles and Rod directed me to their goggles– they were almost out of goggles for the season but he gave me some good advice and was really knowledgeable.

Just got back from a month in Colorado. Had my boots fitted at Sun and Snow and they felt great. No pain! Couldn’t be happier. Also took out a new pair of the wider skis that were recommended by Rob and they worked very well in all types of conditions. He even told me how to ski them and what to expect from the performance of the ski. He was right on with that ski and really loved skiing it. I took my old skis with me, just in case, but never used them, because the new skis were great! Thanks.

i purchased skis, bindings, boots, and poles here. I could save money by shopping online but I decided to try out this store to support a local business and to avoid problems such as fitting and compatibility of bindings and boots that might happen online.
The store made several mistakes; installed bindings that are different from what I bought, not helpful customer service, lack of process in taking care of issues caused by their mistakes… It was a real hassle.
I suggest shopping at other retail stores such as REI or online.

I needed some boot work about 6 years ago, and a fellow ski patroller recommended Sun & Snow. Rob spent a lot of time with me, got my boots sorted out well and I’ve been going back ever since. My wife and daughter recently had the same great service from Rob and Alex with their boot fittings. I don’t get the complaints about customers being ignored, because, from what I can see, NO ONE gets past the front desk without being asked if they need help. And Rob never seems too busy to look up from a fitting to make sure a customer walking by is taken care of. This place is run by folks who love to slide down the snow, and who want to make sure that you have boots that fit so that you’ll love it too. Sun & Snow is the best.

An overall excellent experience. I got custom footbeds for my boots and did a custom boot fitting (punched out the toes). The resulting boot solved all of the pressure points in my original boot. I also got my skis tuned, and somehow ended up getting a free binding adjustment as well. The helmet I bought here was also priced lower than in online shops. The staff were all extremely helpful, and I always felt like I was well attended to.

The owner of Sun and Snow contacted me regarding my unsatisfactory service during my last visit and offered to help us on a return visit. We were treated very well by an employee, even though he didn’t know who we were, indicating to me that we were receiving his standard service and not any special treatment. The owner found us and gave us almost 25% off our entire order. It’s obvious that this store and its owners are committed to providing fantastic service and I hope they are able to iron out the occasional issues with their service, since I’ll be going back.

This shop sells skiing equipment, and swimming equipment. The only reason I didn’t give this business 5 stars is because their swimwear is a bit pricey. I had a rather negative reaction from an employee at Sun and Snow. Therefore, my previous review was very negative. The owner of this business contacted me with sincere concern about improving the customer experience. He has gone out of his way to work with the employee. Yes. The prices are higher than you can find online. However, the owner believes in paying his employees a living wage. I respect that. I am willing to pay a bit more at a shop where the employees are treated well, and paid a good wage.

I love Sun Snow I don’t know what people are talking about they are very helpful for the past 10 years with them; going to the ski swap, selling at the ski swap, finding swimsuits for club summer swim suit– they’re always very helpful

When it was time for me to learn how to ski, hubby got me a Columbia ski parka, bib overalls and some used (formerly rental) equipment from Sun & Snow when it was at the old location. The boots did not allow me to bend my ankles. When the ski instructors told me to bend my ankles, «More! More!» I only was able to sit back. So that was my first season on skis. I had a great time, and wanted more.
Time for real boots! Back to Sun & Snow. I didn’t know how ski boots were *supposed* to fit. I walked around in the store with the warmed-​up boots on my feet. Everyone asked me how they felt. They felt fine.
The first time I wore the boots to ski, my feet started to cramp as I walked across the parking lot. By the time I got to the lift line, I was in agony. I had to yank my feet out and massage them. That was only the beginning of years of discomfort.
Yes, someone at Sun & Snow heated up my boots again to «stretch» them, and gave me different footbeds. Everything was fine while I was in the store, while everything was warm, but then I flew out west to ski for a week. More footbeds, this time from the ski shop out west. Skiing was like Chinese foot binding for me. I loved it anyway. My feet hurt, even after ski season was over. I started to think that was the way it had to be if I wanted to ski. Two rounds of physical therapy. Custom orthotics.
One day it all made sense. I had taken the linings out. I stood back looked at the shells. The insides were shaped like the letter D, while my feet have a slight wedge shape. I was sliding sideways down the tiny hill inside each boot. No wonder my feet were screaming.
The mystery was solved. I got new boots.
If you have fussy feet, if you have to be careful which running shoes you wear, walking around in warmed up boots will only mask a problem. Put on the boots cold. Walk around inside the store for a long time … like 20 minutes. Then ask yourself if your feet are still happy.

We have had Sun & Snow tune our edges and adjust our bindings several times. We got our ski helmets there. I thought my head might get cold without a hat, but wearing a helmet is actually warmer and more comfortable than a hat.

Recently I wandered into Sun & Snow hoping to find another pair of bib overalls, even though it was already early December. I knew it was a long shot. I waved down a clerk. «Do you have overalls?» I said, holding up my old pair of ski pants. «Men’s overalls?» he asked. «No, I’m a girl. I need women’s overalls.» He seemed to be early college aged. Or maybe younger. Hard to tell. He pointed out the ladies’ clothing section. Not much of a selection at this time of year. I looked over to the register. A female clerk was helping a customer. I tried on a few pairs over my sweat pants. Nobody else had noticed me yet. I didn’t want to wait around to find out if another location might have the size I was after, because most of the styles there were the «cool» kind, without a bib and too tight, so you have to keep pulling them back up. No thank you! So I gave up and left without finding anything. I’ll try online.

as an ann arborite, i pride myself on supporting locally owned stores whenever possible, even if it means paying a lil’ extra. however, in the case of sun & snow, the lack of service has made me look elsewhere, even when they’re conveniently located right down the street. it’s a shame because it appears to have quite a decent selection of gear, apparel & accessories w/​the cutest window display/​decorations. of the three times i’ve visited, i have been completely ignored w/​out even the slightest «hello». heck, i would have even settled for a pointed grunt. totally their loss, as i was in my ‘i must own a fabulous canoe’ phase. well, i found a beauty online & buy/​maintain my snowboard gear @ red belly.

Mixed feelings. Some of the staff was nice. Some of the staff were horrible to us. We called had them call the Plymouth shop to get something to ann arbor for us, called repeatedly to see if it was in, and the ann arbor shop sold it. without telling us.
they all have communication issues. went in and had to talk to 4 different people before things could get straightened out.
also, they refuse to price match and honor sales that are marked on the floor. which is illegal btw.
they have some great product, and some of the fitting tech’s are great in the boot department, but the regular staff members, assistant managers and managers are awful. heads stuck so far up something i will avoid buying things there at any and all costs.

I’ve been doing business here for a couple years now and have also sent several friends here for ski boot fittings. Rob Parent is the shop owner and also the person who does all of the boot fittings. Rob has been certified by the «America’s Best Bootfitters» group (more info about this at
). In short this means he has over 10 years experience fitting boots and you can tell for yourself when you have an appointment with him. If you want great fitting ski boots, Rob is the guy you want to go see!
Having the right fitting boot is probably the most important aspect of having a good time skiing. I can see why a lot of beginners give up on the sport, the rental boots at most ski hills are mediocre at best. When you have a boot that fits you right and also is a model that meets your performance level you have a much better time on the slopes.
The thing that most impressed me about this shop is Rob’s dedication and time he will spend with you. Expect a boot fitting session to last anywhere from 1 – 2 hours. If you do go for a boot fitting be sure to call for an appointment. For everything else just drop in anytime, they carry all the goodies year round for skiing, kayaking, and more.
