Came to Stairway today for a detox drink and was helped by a super friendly older lady. She was awesome, explained everything about the product, and have me all kinds of helpful tips. Keep up the good work!

Extremely friendly employee. She really tried to help me find exactly what I wanted, and their stuff was pretty reasonable, especially for an Ann Arbor shop. The first pipe I bought was a ceramic that’s still alive and has been for like three years. My main point is that I’m really happy with the overall shopping experience and I love what I’ve gotten from there. Worth a look.

I love this place. As soon as you walk in there is a huge rack of my fav incense. Our pad smells so good. This incense lingers a long time. They make a Shalimar scent but STH does not carry it. Will ask if they can get it for me. Staff is always very nice to me, I’m in there alot they know me by now. Cute tie dye t shirts for the little tykes in yer life. Very reasonable prices.

I forget how I heard about this place… I may have just stumbled upon it after moving to town. Either way, I’m glad I did. I think it’s an okay headshop, but like most headshops, there are some pros and cons. Pros: The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about which of their pieces are locally made. And for the ones that are not locally made they are usually pretty well-versed in where it was made. So, if you’re like me, and try to support the Michigan economy, this is great. The staff is pretty hands off, which I love. Cons: Enough with the signs. I know what I’m not«allowed» to say(albeit kinda silly). I find it highly annoying that while there are signs giving every iteration possible of not okay references to what they are supposedly not selling, there are items made out of beer bottles with their names changed to be obvious references to things that are(but should not be) illegal. Can someone explain that to me? All in all, a good headshop if you’re looking for a gift or personal item.

I had heard about this little shop from a friend and decided to check it out when visiting Ann Arbor. I was amazed in what they had that was not related to the smoking culture. I found some really cool shirts as well as posters. Plus, they have a vast selection of incense which is sometimes hard to find anymore. I will admit when strolling over to the«other side» I was confused at some things I saw or had just never ever seen them before. The staff was really knowledgeable and nice. My only complaint is the stairs leading up to Stairway to Heaven. They need a little revamp, but nothing major.

After seeing this mentioned on Unilocal and noticing it wandering State the other day, I decided to stop in. Eh… if you’re looking for variety of anything uh… «that» culture related then this is your place. Shirts, incense, posters, scales, even flasks, and of course a healthy selection of pieces. Having said this, nothing in the place really wowed me. Some pieces, like the animal series, were pretty cool but overall nothing stood out to me. Perhaps it was because I found the store completely unattended? Yeah that’s right, there was nobody working the store for the whole time(close to 10 minutes) that I was in there. I had no intention of buying anything but still, security hazard at best, horrible service at worst. Points for variety and completion but you’ll do better at Foggy Bottom Bayou a few minutes down State Street.

Stairway to Heaven has been around for 20 plus years — and is THE head shop/smoke shop around town. A very popular place during Ann Arbor’s Annual Hash Bash — if you’re looking for smoking accessories — this is your nirvana!

This is one of those great little things about Ann Arbor. It’s basically a head shop. You know, a place where you can buy«tobbaco» pipes. I bought my first«tobbaco» pipe from Stairway to Heaven. Haha, get it, because selling products of or pertaining to marijuana would be illegal. The act of simply allowing some poor 18-year-old kid to purchase a bong with his or her hard earned lawn-mowing money would cause them to fall deeply into the bottomless pit of despair that is marijuana addiction. But hell, promoting smoking pipe tobbaco straight out of a one-hit is alright. Stupid American draconian drug-laws. This store also contains left-wing propaganda ranging from hilarious anti-Bush parodies to disturbing tinfoil-hat conspiracy newsletters.
