The pizza here is exactly like we remember in NYC. The new head shop above created a weed smell that permeated the restaurant. Can’t believe that it is acceptable.

Just got a ham calzone from the downtown NYPD. There was exactly one piece of ham, about a square inch, and the rest was just greasy, greasy cheese and bread. Feel quite ripped off after this experience. I’ve been there many times over the years and the slices are fine but this was unfair. They positioned the ham so it could be seen, but that little piece was all there was. Also pretty dirty inside the restaurant. Good for drunken slices but I haven’t had good experiences beyond that — college student with pretty low standards

As a native NYer, NYPD will always mean«New York Police Department,» and the bar will always be set high for pizza by the slice. A fellow east coast pizza-lover recommended NYPD as «adequate, a solid 8⁄10.» I try to avoid pizza in Ann Arbor, because I know I’ll be disappointed. But one day, I was feeling both sick(head cold) and homesick(snow in mid-April? REALLY?!), and just-so-happened to be passing NYPD. So I went in, ordered a «mixed mushroom» slice, and tried not to get my hopes up. The mushroom slice doesn’t have sauce, and the cheese is provolone instead of mozzarella. The mushrooms aren’t particularly flavorful(most if not all cremini), but they worked well with the provolone. The crust was nice and thin, crispy on the outside, and sturdy enough to hold up to a fold. The crust had no flavor whatsoever, and was a little too crunchy, but it wasn’t bad. All in all, my friend was right. Solid 8/10, perfectly adequate. Probably the closest to NY pizza you can get in A2, especially when you factor in the chatty, eccentric Italian-accented guy behind the counter and pretend you don’t see those deep dish pies off to the side. All I can reasonably request from NYPD is that it invests $ 10 in a set of classic oregano/garlic/Parmesan shakers :)

It took 1:15 min on delivery. When I called the 1st time they told me 45 min was still a standard time frame. Then when I called the second time the manager said an hour was standard. Also it was hash bash and that’s what they’re dealing with right now as he hung up on me. When my food arrived it wasn’t hot and the drink I asked for was incorrect. The driver was very polite though. It’s clear customer service isn’t a priority.

As a transplanted New Yorker, I love NYPD for its authenticity and high quality. The pizza is not what a gourmet pizzaiolo from Naples might make; but it’s got all the qualities that I want from New York-style pizza. And don’t overlook the«grandma» sicilian slice; simple and beautifully put together. And the other Italian menu items are solid as well, especially the chicken parmesan sandwich.

Pizza is right between average college pizza and gourmet pizza(like Silvo’s, Mani, Bigalora, Neopapalis). It’s more NY thin than Italian crust too. It’s priced appropriately and is a good late night spot after an night out at the bars. I recommend eating there, because minus 1 star for their new delivery service. The past 3 times, their estimates of 45min-1hr have been at least 30 mins later. This means cold pizza, and the delivery drivers are often either rude and/or clueless.

Just writing this review to contradict some of the funny reviews below(like where someone thought that a little contact between pizza crust and the side of the oven was an indication of mold). This place has always been clean when I go, and the service very friendly and professional(admittedly in the daytime). Their delivery service is really excellent. I prefer the non-pizza items – I second whoever said that you’ll be surprised by the burgers – including the salads. They are basic but always fresh and with good ingredients. I give them 4 stars because the delivery fee is excessive – I wonder if it’s because students don’t tip otherwise? – and because I don’t totally love the pizza, which is really good for Ann Arbor but kind of uninspired for the prices.

NYPD is an institution in Ann Arbor. The food is reasonably priced and it’s solid in terms of quality. There should be ample seating on weekdays and on weekends during the day, but it gets overcrowded with drunk kids during weekend nights.

Oh NYPD, I am gonna miss your therapy. 1. They’re open until 4 am 2. They deliver 3. They have a lot of yummy pizza-by-the-slices and Chicago-style too 4. Their ziti pizza is deliciousss. I became a NYPD regular for this one.

*I am posting this after a friend posted it and it was taken down* After reading the previous reviews about cleanliness, I decided to have an input as well. I bought a Sicilian slice and I noticed that the bottom had what looked like MOLD as I was eating it(I posted this picture here on Unilocal). I complained to the manager/employee and he was adamant that this was not mold. He said that it was from the oven, but this spot was had a dark green color, the color of mold. As compensation, I was offered another sicilian slice, which I declined(didn’t want the possibility of being put in the same situation). After that, I was offered a fresh slice from a pizza that had just come out of the oven. I accepted that. All in all, I am very disgusted and disappointed. Check out the picture I posted of the slice and make your decision. I will never eat here again and I highly recommend against eating here as well for those that care about cleanliness.

Major Health Code violations! I used to love this place, however, I’m now feeling lucky I never got sick! I went in a couple of days ago and was served by an older woman. Within five minutes I watched her touch her hair, rub her nose and then touch the food, directly — no utensils — with the same fingers. She then worked the cash register, handling money, and went back to DIRECTLY touching food — no hand washing, not even hand sanitizer. Obviously I did not eat the pizza. That was the absolute last time I will be in there — gross.

Great hours, solid slices. I passed by this place so many times. Man! What a fool I was! A buddy finally pulled me inside and I was blown away by the slice selection. They had some sorta buffalo wing pizza! They had veggies like you wouldn’t believe!!! They even had a deep dish pizza so full of eggplant it’d make ya blush! Best of all, the pizza was good(read: really, really good). Definitely not your run-of-the-mill late night slice. This pizza was well-made and the toppings were quality. I can’t speak for their other menu options, but I hear their pastas are pretty good. The interior’s kind of bland and it can get pretty crowded, but all in all I’d head back to NYPD anytime.

Delicious New York pizza found in Ann Arbor, Michigan! I was lucky enough to find a groupon but the prices are already reasonable and pretty cheap for the taste of the pizza. It’s located in the midst of campus and easily walkable for students. My boyfriend used to come here often while attending college. He also boasts of the delivery service! The ingredients are fresh and the pizza is very authentic to New York pizza. We talked to one of the owners when we went in and he told us how he came from Queens, NY! Small world! We ordered a pie with various toppings to share and my boyfriend got a soup and soda. They also had other Italian entrees available. The pizza wasn’t the best New York pizza I’ve ever had but it was pretty darn close and it’s super surprising how it’s in the Midwest.

Customer Service… more like, No customer service… (Terrible attempt at a pun…) I bought pizza for a business function early last month, and when the pizza was delivered I did not end up with a receipt. This could have been my fault or not. Regardless, I needed a receipt for my expense report. I called for a receipt a week ago today. I gave every piece of information imaginable: Date of transaction, time of transaction, time of delivery, exact price, card number, ect. I was told that the manager would get to it later and that I would be text the receipt. I waited a day… then, I waited another. After 48 hours of no contact, I called again. I was only allowed to leave a message with an employee that was not the manager, because the manager was occupied. I left a message about how important it was that they follow through with the receipt. Everything was still polite and cordial. I could have messed up not getting the receipt at the original transaction, but the need to turn in my expense report was becoming more pressing. After TWO more days of hearing nothing, I decided I needed to call again. I was told that no manager was there, but they would leave another message to send the receipt. I was assured that receipts are typically found for consumers and they didn’t know what the hold up was. It’s now been an entire calendar week, and I haven’t heard word one back from them. I called again today, only to be informed that no manager would be there the entire day Monday. They explained that I would not be able to get a receipt today, and that they would leave another message tomorrow. I was also told snidely that I should have gotten the receipt with the original delivery. Maybe I did, or maybe I didn’t. I certainly couldn’t find one five minutes after the delivery. Regardless, I’ve never felt that my business was so unappreciated. I won’t order from NYPD again, and I wouldn’t encourage anyone else to either. Four phone calls and I never heard anything back, despite promises I would receive the receipt via text. I’ll head somewhere else where my patronage is appreciated.

Good Pizza. Not the best in town but good pizza if you order it fresh. It is very close to the pizza you get in Manhattan but not the same. In other words, not real NYC pizza. Their slices are not good because they leave them out for a long time and they dry up. I did not like their other stuff though, with the exception of their chicken roll with zitti, which is really good.

I;ve lived in the Ann Arbor area for 15 years and this place is famous among locals. Writing this review is starting to make my mouth water already. My favorite fast food pizza in Ann Arbor/Ypsi. Open late for people like me. Great drunkie/munchie place. When you go in for a slice they heat it up in the oven making it seem as if it just came out. The 4 mushroom pizza is really good(try adding sausage), the white pizza is real fucking good, but you cant go wrong with pretty much anything and half the time I just get pepperoni. Everything from the style to the sauce to the cheese to the oily-ness is what makes NYPD’s pizza so good. I just discovered their buffalo sauce wings. So good. The buffalo sauce is probably my favorite anywhere and the wings are as crunchy as they are sizable. I now get the wings every time I go. Their blue cheese is also really good. Their nachos are also very very good. Good portion and great taste. The italian owners are funny and down to earth. I love the fact they always have soccer on. This place will have you addicted after just one go. Only problem I have is the lady who was working the cash register last time I went. She is the one with piercings all over her face and is bitchy most of the time I see her. Still great food tho

More of a 4.5 than a 4 star rating for me. I’ve usually dropped in for a quick specialty slice or two, and i haven’t had one that i didn’t like so far. It’s pretty good for the price. Pretty much impossible to go wrong with any of their chicken-topped specialty slices, unless you don’t like a particular ingredient like mushrooms(on their chicken pesto) or artichokes(on their mediterranean chicken), et cetera. The real magic, though, is ordering a whole pie and eating it while it’s still fresh from the oven. After trying this i can say this is my favorite NY style pizza I’ve ever had. Used the groupon to try it out and can’t believe I never tried it til recently! Another cool thing is that they let you order half and half for specialty pizzas, so I ended up getting a medium half shrimp fra diavolo and half mediterranean chicken. It. Was. Divine. Can’t wait to get another groupon and try out another fresh pizza. Do yourself a favor and try out a fresh specialty pizza! Disclaimer: Never tried the chicago slices here, but after the heavenly pizza i just got, it certainly is worth a shot. I can’t comment on any of the other food they have on the menu(and they have a LOT) but I really can’t see anyone coming here for the first time to try anything other than their pizza.

Eh. I’ve always heard things about this place. Good for late night, I guess? I got the Chicago-style eggplant pizza. They supposedly heated it up, but it was cold in the middle when I got it. I ordered delivery once from NYPD. I think I got garlic knots and broccoli pasta. I wasn’t impressed with that either. It was very oily and not very well-seasoned. I don’t really have much else to say about this place. I’m sure you can get better pizza elsewhere.

Despite reviews, we got the delivery option and I have to say it ended up better than suspected! Instead of 45mins to an hour we only waited 30 mins. We got a large(oh my goodness do they mean large!) pizza: half white pizza with bacon, half 4 meat. Overall it was tasty and satisfied a pizza craving, but it wasn’t the best thing ever. Good. A solid good. The garlic knots weren’t very fresh. If they were, they would have been awesome. 4 people should have gotten this pizza, but we made do with 2! Price is okay, there are coupons floating around though so pay attention.
