We specialize in Kosher cuisine, with an emphasis on New American with global influences. We make everything from scratch and feature house made bread & desserts, soups, sauces & dressings.
We feature a weekly changing menu that is seasonal and utilizes local produce.
Coming in fall 2013, we will also feature a coffee bar that has organic, fair trade espresso and brewed coffee, teas, chocolate, and house made pastries.
We are open during the U of M academic calendar FALL & WINTER semesters ONLY and encourage the public, not only students, to come in and enjoy our café!
History
Established in 1926.
University of Michigan Hillel is unparalleled in terms of its size, diversity and quality of programming. Our Hillel supports 60 independent student groups, spanning the full breadth of Jewish life. Each group provides opportunities for students to become involved as leaders, driving the programming and decision-making forward for their group and community. Students build leadership, engagement, and community-organizing skills through our Hillel that benefit them in their roles on campus, in finding employment, and in life long after they graduate.
Our programming covers social, political, religious, cultural and educational areas, all intended to help students access Jewish life and community on their own terms. We offer concerts, lectures, films, classes, community service, yoga, religious services, discussion groups, dialogue, free Shabbat dinners, and a full kosher meal program.
Meet the Manager
Emil B.
Manager
Chef Emil Boch is an experienced culinarian with a wide range of styles. He draws inspiration from flavors of India, Latin America, France and Asia, but his style would be best described as New American. Gaining his experience working in Seattle and San Francisco, he returned to his home in the Great Lakes region in 2005. He is going into his seventh year as the executive chef at Hillel, where many fondly refer to him as «kosher king of Ann Arbor».
Emil is dedicated to the principles of the slow foods movement. In his free time he does volunteer work for local food initiatives, makes hand crafted cheeses, and home cured meats. He currently lives in Ypsilanti, with his wife lovely Monica and their two dogs.
