Cobblestone Farm and Museum

We booked Cobblestone for our wedding and it turned out to be a beautiful venue. The staff were so easy going, helpful and friendly every step of the way. The grounds made for some beautiful photos and the barn was a really fun area for a reception. Being able to tour the facility during the week, and in the morning of event days makes it really easy to get a picture of what you want to do for your event. The only two downsides I can say is that the barn isn’t huge, so if you have a really big wedding it might not be right for you, and that you have to book all your outside vendors unlike some place like a country club that does food and alcohol for you. For my wife and I this was a plus, we wanted that creative control, but for some people that could be a downside. Either way, I can’t stress enough how great everyone was to work with and what a cool venue this was for a wedding.

Cobblestone Farm is really only good for a certain crowd of people. If you’re going to have an event that’s rustic and you plan on using burlap table runners, then this is the place for you.
I’ve DJed here many times and for whatever reason I always smack my head a little when I’m called on to play here. It’s just not for me. It’s a beautiful venue, but it’s a very inconvenient place on many fronts. s
1. Make sure you’re ready to walk. Guests should expect to park quite a distance from the actual venue to get in to the main farm building. The parking lot is well lit, but it’s the distance that will make the walk tough for any woman in heels.
2. Stairs, stairs, stairs. Stairs to get up in to the main room and once you’re there, you have to go downstairs to use the restroom. There’s also a loft inside… stairs to get there, too.
3. It’s a very tight fit inside. The bar is usually located in the back corner of the venue and it’s a tight squeeze in there.
Like I said, it’s a beautiful place but it’s a truly logistical nightmare to do anything.

We use Cobblestone Farm regularly for work meetings. Plenty of parking. Nice space for 50 – 100 guests. Free wi-​fi. Wins all around!

Cobblestone Farm is a historic farm whose collections date to the Civil War era. It is not open to the public on a regular basis because they do not have enough volunteers. However, you can usually find staff at the house on Mondays from 10am to around 12−1pm. They are very nice and would be very happy to show you around. If you want to schedule a time to come please call ahead. And they do not charge for tours but please leave a donation. Lack of funding is a reason why they do not have regular hours of operation. Everyone who works there is a volunteer. If you need to contact the farm for a tour, the barn on the property can give you a number but they cannot give the tour personally. The barn is actually run by different people and belongs to the park service.
Cobblestone does have some annual events, please see their web page. Keep an eye on this historic site, it has been growing a lot over the past ten years. There is more to come!

I haven’t gone here for the museum, but one of my high school friends used this place for their reception. It was beautiful and if I had the money, I’d use it for my own upcoming wedding. They did a great job with the decorating, bride and groom were very pleased and recommended it. The wedding was in December also, so it was nice and warm, plus a pretty picture amongst the snow!

A few minor downsides first: The museum’s website isn’t terribly informative about when the museum or the general complex of buildings is open. I spoke to a park employee when I was there and still wasn’t able to get a straight answer.
I did find out that if you want to set up a program for kids where they learn about pioneer life, including churning their own butter, then you have to make arrangements ahead of time, and that makes sense.
It seems you can wander the grounds and look at the barn and the gardens and the outside of the various buildings from dawn to dusk in good weather. I’m still not clear on whether the museum has regular hours or if you have to call ahead to arrange a tour, though.
The nice park employee I spoke to, though, did give me a full tour of one of the auxiliary buildings, between the museum and the barn. They have a really nice hall here that’s often rented for weddings and wedding receptions, and they have a whole album of photos you can look at to see people who have used it before.
The reception hall is up a flight of stairs, but they have an elevator for handicapped access.
I loved this place and plan to go back to explore some more. I may have to borrow a friend’s kid for a day and take him or her to one of the programs because they sound like a lot of fun.

I used to really like this place as a kid. I loved touring the house and seeing how people lived in the «olden» days. I was always curious about those kinds of things. The barn is actually a new addition to the place probably about twenty years ago. So it is definitely not original. But they used the old techniques to build the place so you get an authentic feel.
It’s a good place to bring kids and learn a bit of history but if any the kids your bringing go to school in Ann Arbor there is no point because they will get a field trip there anyway.

SO cool! Yes, I’m coming out as a history buff. Loved it field trips here as a kid and enjoyed the various events held in the barn (yes, a barn, but a classy one) held here. Another unique place to preruse that’s SO Ann Arbor!
