Cracker Barrel Old Country Store

Worse breakfast I have ever had at a Cracker Barrel, my sausage was raw in the center, and the waitress tells me that’s the way it is there, I have ate at cracker barrel for years and this is the only time I have been served bad food, the manager took it off my tab, bit that does not excuse the waitress for not knowing what she is talking about

The host greeted us with an exasperated sigh. We were seated swiftly. The place wasn’t busy at 8:30 on a Saturday morning. Strange. No one had food. We ordered. We waited. And then… we feasted. Cold, runny eggs made to order! Thick dry crust atop sausage gravy bowl! Lukewarm potato casserole! All served within 40 minutes of ordering! Unbelievable.

I have never in all my latest years been so mad & pissed off to the point I just wanted to lose it in a restaurant, until this evening. First after being seated no one never came to our table to address us, after waiting 25 min another waitress finally asked had we been waited on after saying no she took our drink order & said she would get our waiter. Finally he shows up to say «I hope you wasn’t waiting long» so he takes our orders so finally our food arrives to the table. Why did I receive my food and all my sides were cold? Really are you serious? My catfish was good & hot but my sides… omg! So I tell my waiter, he said I will gladly get you some more… long story short I get some of my sides they where hot, but I didnt get what I’d order, and to top it off the manager brought it out to me at this point Im just ready to, just bring me a box. I get my check and they didn’t even comp my bill. I will NEVER visit this restaurant again.

Always a fave! Had the classic country fried steak, mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese, and cheesy hash… yeap, gained 20 lbs of virtual happiness. I’ll need to run a marathon to offset my meal but at least i recharged my Cracker batteries.

I lost my Cracker Barrel virginity at this store recently and I loved it!
Maybe it is just because we don’t have them in California or maybe I’m just a sucker for a restaurant with a gift shop?!
Not sure what it is… but our breakfast was damn tasty and much cheaper than most breakfast spots I go to normally.
So why no Cracker Barrels in California? We like to play checkers on the front porch of our restaurants too!

Today’s trip to Cracker Barrel was disappointing. Service was slow. Our food arrived at room temperature. I had to send it back to get warmed up as did my wife. My son’s was quite hot, so I guess the problem was ours got done first and we had to wait for his.
They were not using the fireplace yet. Guess it has not been cold enough yet. Or maybe they just have an aversion to heat right now.

Cracker Barrel is a place I don’t think about going very often. It conjures up a picture of elderly folks strolling around the restaurant. However, when I do end up here, the food is always excellent. The have «down home cookin» meals that are very tasty.
If you happen to show up at a busy time and have to wait for a seat, you can kill some time in the craft store. They offer candy, clothing, toys and other various crafts.

Like Emily H., this was my first experience at a Cracker Barrel. I wasn’t that impressed with the food and didn’t go back in the 5 weeks I was in the area, within walking distance of the place. The biscuits and gravy were no more than mediocre and cost more than I’ve paid for much better.
I liked the «Country Store» with all the unique stuff, though most of it was more than I wanted to pay. Okay, so I’m cheap. I did buy a really pretty purple glittery small melamine plate to use in the motel for leftovers and snacks and it was only $ 2.
What I DID like best was that they carry a wide variety of Audio Books, though only on CD, no cassettes, and I listened to 4 or 5 books in the car while driving around and in the room nights and while I was doing other things in the mornings. They are only $ 3.50/week and you can check them out at one location and return them to any location you are near, though I only visited the one. near me. What a perfect idea for travelers!
And since it was August and Sept while I was in the area, they had a lot of darling costumes for kids that were fun to look at.

This was my first visit to what turns out to be a giant chain of «country stores» and restaurants. Who knew? I’m putting in an official protest as of this moment that there are no Cracker Barrels in California.
Sure, maybe they wouldn’t «work», whatever that means, in a great many parts of the state, but hello? Fresno? Bakersfield? They could totally support a restaurant that serves grits. There really should be a grits purveyor somewhere on I5 to break up the monotony and enduring badness of Dairy Queen.
This morning, for breakfast, I had the «smokehouse», which is two eggs, a mound of bacon, two giant biscuits a big vat of gravy and a glop of grits. Two words, «more» and «please». Three plus hours later it is forming an adobe brick in my stomach.
The real draw to Cracker Barrel isn’t really the food anyway. It’s the shop, the country kitsch. We came away with several stocking stuffers and two of the Peg game that they keep on each of the tables in the restaurant to alleviate the 45 minute wait for your meal.
I see some unhealthy competition ahead.
