We are Ship Creek’s only one stop fishing shop. Located on the banks of Ship Creek in the heart of downtown Anchorage, Alaska.

At The Bait Shack we offer a full line of fishing equipment rentals. Rods, Reels and Waders. We also offer State of Alaska fishing Licenses and King Stamps.

We have everything you need and know how to fish on Ship Creek. This is the only urban fishery where the King Salmon can weigh up to 50 pounds.

We start fishing around 20 May and finish up around 1 September. King, Silvers, Pink and Chum are the four types of Salmon that make their way back into the waters of Ship Creek.

History

Established in 2010.

Fishing has been a part of my life for a very long time. After moving to Alaska in 2005 with the US ARMY, I started fishing on Ship Creek as soon as the snow and ice melted. My current building The Bait Shack has been on the creek banks since 1994. The previous business had been closed and sitting empty for a few years before I purchased the building in 2010. Knowing then I was going to be leaving the service the following summer I saw a wonderful opportunity to share my love for fishing.

Growing up in the midwest playing baseball, football and fishing was how I spent my free time. After going to college I joined the US Army with the intentions of only serving three years. After 13 years and a couple of trips around the world I found myself in Alaska. Growing up reading books and National Geographics magazines about Alaska, it did not take long for me to realize that I did not want to leave this state. The Bait Shack has given me a chance to share passion for fishing with everyone who comes to visit Alaska and is wanting to catch a King Salmon.
