Body Renew Alaska

This is a good old fashioned gym with no frills which is what I like about it. While I might enjoy a sauna, hot tub or pool I have no desire to pay absurd amounts of money for it. It’s pretty straight forward here, if you want to get in shape and work out than this is the place for you. They also have personal trainers there and have recently been more selective to who they let train there. Last year there were quite a few that just weren’t very good but have since left. All of their employee’s now are very professional and have really stepped up there customer service. I prefer the weights but they also have plenty of cable machines, cardio equipment upstairs and daily classes. I haven’t tried them but a lot of people come out of there saying they liked it so there’s that. There’s also a daycare, I don’t have kids but it’s super convenient for the parents out there trying to tone up their mom/​dad bods.
The monthly fee is only $ 15 for me because I get a discount through my work but the normal price is still pretty cheap. It’s not as cheap as Planet Fitness but you won’t be asked to leave for wearing a tank top either or breaking some other nonsensical rule like grunting/​breathing hard. Obviously you don’t want to exert yourself when you work out… that would be silly. Although I could probably go on for days about why Planet Fitness is terrible, instead I’ll just leave this here. (Although if your in the mood for a rant you can read my review of Planet Fitness. It’s the only 1 star review I’ve ever given.)
I think the only reason I don’t rate this higher is because they could use a little more equipment like a squat rack and extra bars for deadlifts and such. Other wise, I think it’s just a great gym.

The staff at Body Renew are amazing! I signed up for personal training sessions 3 months ago and have already lost 14 pounds and feel great. The trainers here are so motivating and they have helped me create a clear plan on my overall fitness goal. Body Renew has everything I need and is also affordable. The facility on Northern Lights is always clean and is close to my work which helps me workout more (either on my breaks or on my way home). Body Renew Rocks!

Update, I started working out back in December with Scott who no longer works at Body Renew. My new trainer Justin is awesome. I’ve been working out with him since May-​ish. Justin also listens and works with me and my injuries. Justin motivates and pushes me while still making sure I do not reinjure myself. He gives great advice on diet and exercises u can do on my own. Still impressed with the trainers and staff here at the gym here at midtown.

Body Renew customer service is HORRIBLE!!! I want everyone to know they should never sign up for personal training at Body Renew. I received some disturbing health news, required urgent surgery and needed to put my training on hold while I recuperated. NOPE! I spoke to Ashley at the office and was treated like I was some sort of criminal trying to get out of my agreement.
I was charged $ 680. I asked them to not charge me again until I could return to the gym. Nope, they charged me another $ 680 in less than 30 days.
I asked for a copy of everything I signed a week ago. I did not get anything. I emailed Ashley two days ago to ask if she sent it. I got no reply. I don’t know what they require for me to cancel and they won’t tell me.
To me, Body Renew does not care about its members. only its members’ money! I have been lied to, ignored, office staff doesn’t do its job, and they have a nasty attitude about it.

And, I faxed a doctors note to them, per their instructions. They said they never got it. Upon further conversation, I was told the fax machine they told me to use was BROKEN! Really?
DO NOT USE BODY RENEW UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED VERY BADLY

This gym has just normal equipment in it. Nothing spectacular. It is clean for its age and all the machines work (including cardio equipment). The equipment seems to be the hand me downs of other gyms upgrading to more modern stuff.
This place is lacking with no hot tub, sauna or even steam room. You can bet that in the morning there will be cleaning ladies just hanging out listening to music and cleaning showers when everyone else wants to take one (very inconvenient).
For the price in Anchorage though, you can’t beat what you get here. I wish they had more options for the morning classes (before 7am, like Zumba!) I know the gym isn’t very crowded but there are those of us that like to workout before work at 9am! Just saying :)

Seriously love this place more and more. Can’t sleep? Go to the gym, be productive with yourself and get my booty in shape! I’m finally taking myself seriously, not just for me, but my husband as well. He deserves a wife in food shape like he is!

This gym has a really odd layout. It has two floors and all the cardio equipment is upstairs. The women’s locker room is right under that area and you can hear the treadmills pounding from upstairs; it sounds like the ceiling could cave in at any moment. Speaking of the locker room, it’s in desperate need of an update as it appears really dingy and dated. Also, during peak times it’s hard to snag an empty locker. As far as weight training goes it’s a step up from Planet Fitness as far as what’s available i.e. the weight machines are better quality and they have the freemotion cable machines. However, there are no racks. The only reason I gave this gym a shot was because I got a discounted rate for being a state employee.

Today was my first day working out at the new Body Renew which just opened where Power House gym used to be on Northern Lights. They still don’t have everything up and running but my first experience is a solid three stars.
This is a minimal service gym. The equipment is nice and new and they have spruced up the place, but the locker rooms don’t have hot tubs or saunas. They do offer free tanning, which I haven’t taken advantage of yet.
While this is a no frills gym, the price tag is just about right. My boyfriend and I paid for 18 months in advance with the special they were running and it came out to $ 10 a month.
The staff seems friendly enough. They just opened and not everything is up and running yet. When I was in there today none of the tvs in front of the treadmills seemed to be working. They also don’t have a class schedule yet and I’m not sure what they are going to offer or when.
