World of Color – Celebrate!

World of Color need I say more. If you are a Disney fan you can’t go wrong with World of Color the water, lighting, music, pictures and films playing for the audience is an amazing sight to see. In certain areas you will get wet from the mists from the show done prepared. Fast Pass is a must in order to get a good or decent spot. Common sense try to get in the middle inline with the Ferris wheel in the background for the best view. This is a must see when coming to DCA.

This was our third visit to the World of Color… and it will likely be our last for a long while! The thing is… it was on the boring side. Not sure if it’s because we have already seen a couple and the «wow» factor is gone… or if it truly were not quite as creative or as inventive as times before?! My vote is for the latter… I think they may be in a dry spell on new ways to be brilliant.
You have to get there super early to get in line to get a good seat… and this time we did have a good location… but the workers hassled people… and ultimately having to wait 90 minutes… like usual… before the show started… was more of an inconvenience than it was all worth! Pretty sure we will skip this the next (few) time (s) and find something new to marvel… because ultimately, world of color has lost its luster!

Best seats in my book! Reserved is the way to go. I highly recommend it, money well spent. Working for Disney is one of the best jobs ever for it’s never ending perks.

Enough of Frozen… let it go!!! What about the last 60 years of Disney… need more history. This show was ok, but holiday show was better

I was so excited that I was going to see this show. What a disappointment. To sum it up in a few words… it was boring. I LOVED the original WOC and had high expectations for this one since it was the 60^th celebration. I like Neil Patrick Harris and he was only doing what he was told to do so it’s not his fault the show wasn’t great. I just left feeling sad and empty.

For my 300^th review, I gotta review something that I must love/​be obsessed with. Of course it will be a Disneyland related review. OF. FREAKIN. COURSE! =)
I’m kinda surprised with the low ratings. I understand how reviewers are complaining about the endless Frozen related visuals that’s being constantly shoved in our faces… trust me, I can’t stand Frozen either. *big thumbs down on that part* But you cannot say there’s no nostalgia with this. You want to complain about something being randomly thrown together and the lack of nostalgic elements? Go watch Disneyland Forever. Now THAT’S a big disappointment.
But what’s really making WOC: Celebrate! stand out over Disneyland Forever fireworks that’s shown at DCA’s big sister park is the history of Walt Disney and his dream of Disneyland. For those who said there’s no nostalgia… where were you when they showed us Walt’s big night at Carthy Circle for the première of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? Where were you when Steamboat Willie appeared? Or the Disneyland attractions segment? I’m guessing some people must of watched the show with their eyes closed or simply not paying attention at all.
World of Color: Celebrate! is what I wanted the 60^th anniversary fireworks to be. A celebration of Walt Disney, his dream becoming reality, and no matter what age you are… you’re never «too old or too adult» to still dream and believe «someday my prince will come.» This water works spectacular takes you on a journey. My favorite part was the Disneyland segment. Visual and sound clips of Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Small World, and some newer rides like Radiator Springs Racers reminds you of your day you just had. The beginning, middle AND end got me teary-​eyed. I know Disney fanatics will love this.
I’ve said it once; I’ll say it again. Thank you, Walt. Thank you for creating such a magical place where everybody is here to have fun and enjoy themselves. Nobody is here to judge you. There’s not a single care, worry (except for hoping there’s still some FPs left for me) or the stress and pressure of everyday life when you’re here. Happy 60^th Anniversary, Disneyland! You truly ARE a Diamond.

This show lacked heart, which is something the original World of Color had in spades. This «Celebrate» show is awful – bring back the original!!!

Neil Patrick Harris is the host of the show, which annoyed the shit out of me. Something about seeing NPH ethereally projected onto water just got me all annoyed. I was definitely not enjoying it UNTIL they showed some of the Star Wars trailer, which was DEFINITELY awesome to see projected onto water. You win, Disney. You win.

I was so excited to see this update of World of Color, I had seen the past and mostly enjoyed them. To validate my rant, I was skeptical of the original when it first released. Disney’s California Adventure was a dud back then and needed a big revival. It turned out World of Color was the beginning of that revival.
World of Color: Celebrate misses that mark. The water ballet is nowhere near as spectacular. Disney fans are always excited to see Walt and who doesn’t love NPH, but it was overdone. The ONLY song in full length is Let it Go. There is nothing nostalgic about that. I personally enjoyed the original song for the show, because of its originality.
The original evoked feelings in the child in all of us by allowing us to see the clips of movies scroll by in a cohesive mashup. This World of Color: Celebrate is a big did you know episode followed by a DisneyParks Vacation commercial.
Do yourself a favor and use this time to go on Radiator Springs Racers and Tower of Terror.

My daughter and I are arguing if this or Fantasmic is better! Fantasmic is her favorite I did like world of color better. It is a great display of lights, music, mickey and water. We did get a fastpass and got in line at an hour before and had a great view. I hate waiting an hour for something just standing there but this was worth the wait. About 30 minutes before they have a game where you get on their wifi designated for the game and play a light/​Mickey wheel game which makes the time go faster! They have lots of room for viewing, people walking around selling water/​soda. This is a great show! And worth the hour wait.

This show was insanely spectacular. I loved it.
My only blah moment was when they decided to play the ENTIRE rendition of Let It Go. I know I know, it’s everyone’s favorite. I just can’t get behind that movie. I wish I liked it. I really do.
I did enjoy the more obscure Disney references that we haven’t seen in a show like this in Years.
All in all the show was fantastic I will definitely get a fads pass again to see it.

Watching this new addition of World of Color was alright. Looking back a couple of weeks ago, I chose a spot that wasn’t the perfect for viewing, but I doubt that had anything to do with my thoughts on the show. It has its strong points and weak points, however it’s really hard to not overlook the weak points. Especially when comparing this to the original version of the show.
Starting with the weak points, I felt like the narrative from Neil Patrick Harris was not needed. Even with the scenes of the various attractions and historical order of Walt’s movies. This was a problem for me as I think this would be way better if there was more showing and less telling, if this were the case I would appreciate the scenes a lot more.
The transitions between scenes were not as smooth as the original. Almost everything about the first show blended in perfectly (e.g. The Little Mermaid moves on to Finding Nemo, Wall-​E generates clouds for Toy Story, the Lion King transitions to a medley of various movies and then the finale). Compared to this new version, we do have a chronological order of movies and Disneyland attractions, but it gets interrupted by individual montages from Star Wars and Frozen. Both of those scenes would fit in way better with the original show.
I also felt like there are too much sequences focusing on video projections and not enough sequences with the fountains and color, which this show should specialize in. The original blended video with water sequences fine. Although I do think the strongest water sequence was for the Frozen scene, and that was one of the highlights of the show.
The finale of water sequences were also underwhelming compared to the original. I don’t understand why the show would finish with large blasts of fire, when it would be just fine to end with a large burst of water and color like the original show did.
I do appreciate what the show was going for, as it is a celebration of Walt Disney’s projects and his vision of Disneyland, which is supposed to be the theme of this show. And although they were random, the Star Wars and Frozen sequences were brilliant to see.
I do recommend people visiting Disneyland for the first time to see this show if they haven’t, but it is underwhelming compared to the original. If there is a new show in the works similar to the original or if the original show will eventually come back, then I highly recommend seeing that one.

I had been wanting to see WoC ever since it debuted in 2010 and this was my first experience with it. I had seen the original version on YouTube (which does not do it justice) and while this new version is certainly more impressive, I think the first version was better. That being said, I don’t think it deserves the as a harsh criticism as has been made. It’s a moving show and a nice tribute to Walt Disney. NPH always puts on a good show but I think my main complaint is that it was scattershot. It seems like the marketing team got their way and the result was many elements that weren’t there to honor Walt but to push their newer juggernauts (like Star Wars and Frozen). This show wasn’t the place for that. I don’t regret seeing it but I would definitely NOT even consider missing the Disneyland nighttime entertainment for it.

I can’t believe I missed seeing the «Disneyland Forever» fireworks to see this (I have seen them before– but multiple viewing is a must for the fireworks). This world of color was more technologically advanced than the old world of color shows, but it lacked the story and emotion of the original world of color show. The show was filled with the «Star Wars: the force awakes» trailer, the Disneyland 60 commercial that I saw on TV, and the random appearance of Elsa to satisfy the likings of Frozen fans. I was also disappointed with the fact that Neil Patrick Harris has more of a staring role than Walt Disney. Overall I would say that this show is not worth making effort to see– I would recommend just watching this show on YouTube, and instead head over to Disneyland to watch the fireworks for a second or third time!

This is the new evening entertainment in DCA as part of the 60^th anniversary celebration (even though Disneyland is the one turning 60 and not DCA 0_​o). I applaud those who try to hit this in addition to the new Paint the Night parade in DL and the fireworks show all in one night. Bam 8:50 pm parade, 9:30 pm fireworks, and 10:15 pm World of Color. I did that and boy, was there a lot of fast walking and people dodging.
This new version is definitely more immersive (special effects shoot around you in the viewing area) and they seemed to have expanded your «viewing screen» where the water and projections would hit (didn’t even know it was possible to gobble up more space to expand the water and clip projections). With this new version, there was also a lot of Neil Patrick Harris. Now, when Disney announced that Neil would be hosting this show, I was thinking it would be similar to how Julie Andrews hosted the 50^th fireworks show, a intro and outro spiel. I was wrong. Neil is in practically 80% of the show. Now, I am a fan of NPH (from the Harold and Kumar movies to How I Met Your Mother), but I felt his presence in this show was overkill and overextended.
The other thing that kept crossing my mind during this was that this looked like the Remember Dreams Come True 50^th anniversary fireworks show in World of Color format — the WOC show pays tribute to almost all of the same e-​tickets and other memorable Disney attractions covered in the 50^th fireworks show. Made me feel like this wasn’t too original a show. And I noticed how prominently a role Frozen has been playing in all of the new 60^th anniversary entertainment offerings — it’s in the Paint the Night parade, in the fireworks show, and yes, in the WOC show. I can understand why Disney is doing this, but really, I wish they didn’t. –_​–
Overall, the effects in this new World of Color show are very astounding to see in person (the water effects, smoke effects, and fire effects very much amped up from before) and the show is nevertheless entertaining, but the flow isn’t really there from scene to scene and could’ve been better done. 4 stars for the effects, 2.5 stars for the show.

What a World of Mess! This show was a total letdown. It doesn’t have a strong concept/​story. They’re trying too hard to make everyone happy… including the marketing/​MBA folks whom I am sure insisted that there be a big chunk of Frozen and Star Wars. At times, it was boring. At times, it made no sense. Many times, I was ready to leave. What a waste of money to have Neil Patrick Harris in it. He was awkward and blah. So many parts of it left me thinking… WTF?! When they were talking about the history of Disneyland, all of the sudden they threw in Cars Land footage… it’s not even a part of Disneyland!
Whatever you do, don’t pay for the World of Color dinner. Just get a FastPass if you want to see what a mess it is! This is the type of show I would expect at Walt Disney World not Disneyland!

Okay, before you’ll jump me and throw me to the wolves, I want to preface this review with a few things
1) I love Neil Patrick Harris (NPH) from his roles on Doogie Howser” to «How I Met Your Mother» — he is truly an incredible actor, and one of my favorites of all time
2) I’ve watch several incarnations of World of Color (and still love the original)

My boyfriend hadn’t been to Disney since his high school grad night, so I obviously want to show him all the new and amazing things he’s missed — World of Color being one of them. So we started our day grabbing a fast pass right when the park opened. We nabbed a 9 o’clock showing and were seated in the blue section. Once evening hit we moseyed on over to secure our spot (it’s standing room only), and patiently wait for a truly magical experience.
The show began; however, unlike the original show where they start the fountain ballet with different color lights projected in sequence with the «World of Color» theme song, Neil Patrick Harris and Mickey popped up on the projected water fan screen.
Oh… this is different, but I love Neil Patrick Harris, so this must be awesome! Unfortunately, I felt that NPH’s random dialogue throughout the show really prevented my boyfriend and I from enjoying the music and water-​show. There would be moments where iconic Disney songs played with clips from our favorite movies played across the fan water screen and then we’d be interrupted by NPH’s history lesson on how Walt Disney vision or something like that. What a way to ruin the moment. Argg…
In addition, this version of World of Color also had a lot more video projections and I felt that I was sitting through trailers promoting the next films as opposed to reminiscing fan favorites. As a result, I felt that there was less water dancing and more fan sequences. Signs…
I’m sure Disney created this version to promote the diamond anniversary, but this was a lackluster performance and we even left early *gasp* Bring back the original World of Color!!!

So much for paying $ 40 on a meal to get «VIP» seating in the Carthay Circle section. Ridiculous. First time at California Adventure to see the World of Color show and I can only see the head of the guy in front of me. WASTE OF MONEY and so much for being the «happiest place on earth».
Tip: Just go super early in the morning to get a fast pass, then go early before the show to get a closer seat.
Warning: Other park guests can get really obnoxious.

This is a review for the brand new World of Color — Celebrate, which premiered for the Disneyland60 Celebration. Though many people did not seem to like the new show as much as previous World of Color presentations, I loved it for being classically Disney. Neil Patrick Harris narrates and is in the show more often than you’d expect. He tells the story of Disney as we watch the characters dance on the spray of water and new projections onto the Mickey on the Fun Wheel with high definition. Great magical experience, as always.
SPOILER WARNING. My favorite part was the addition of Star Wars and Captain America. Hearing the Star Wars theme blasted through the park was incredible and the images were fantastic. It got us even more excited for the Force Awakens release in December. Star Wars and the short shot of Captain American tied in nicely with the concept of Disney in its beginnings and Disney in its present and future.

If the original World of Color wasn’t amazing enough, this one tops that by 1,000! This all new show for the 60^th Anniversary of Disneyland celebrates the life of Walt Disney. Bring your tissues people, it’s a tear jerker!
Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and the one and only Mickey Mouse, the show travels through Walt’s life and achievements. It’s magic on the water and the new special effects from the holiday show is now in play permanently.
Also includes new special effects that will definitely wow you.
This is a must see for young and old, annual passholders or first time visitors.
If you’ve never been, you must get a fast pass ticket, located at the Grizzly River Rapids (don’t worry you can still get fp for rides at the same time, it’s on a different network). You can also get tickets with a dining package from Carthay Circle Restaurant, Wine Country Trattoria, or a few others listed on the website.
This show is standing room only, so be prepared for that. It’s a 30 minute show and usually shows twice nightly.
