PetersenDean designs & installs high-​quality roofing and solar power products and systems for residential and commercial clients. We are the only major solar installation company that is also a licensed roofing contractor.

PetersenDean has been roofing for 30 years. We use high-​quality, American-​made roofing materials installed by trained and skilled crews. We are a certified roofer by several manufactures and provide ongoing training for our crews.

Solar Power Installation: Most solar power system are installed on the roof, so it makes sense to talk to a roofer about a solar power installation. We are licensed for both roofing and solar installation. We install affordable solar power systems using American-​made panels, inverters and racking.

PetersenDean Roofing And Solar was founded in 1984 as a roofing contractor focused on building world class roofing systems for residential customers and home builders. We have continued our mission of delivering high quality roofing as we have expanded across California.

Building on a 30 year roofing heritage, PetersenDean logically evolved our capabilities to include solar power design and installation in the mid 90’s. Today we are the only national construction company licensed fro both roofing and solar installation. We continue our mission to build high quality roofing and solar power systems at the best possible value for our Orange County customers.

I started roofing in 1981 with Joe Dean (my business partner). Together we opened PetersenDean in 1984 with the premise that we could be the best at what we do. In 1985, we added solar power systems to our offering, so we are one of the oldest roofing and solar power firms in the nation. Joe and I have built over 1.3 million roofs and over fifty thousand solar power systems since our founding. We are not perfect, but we try very hard to please all of our customers.

Went with Petersen Dean based on Veteran’s/Military Discount and technology (micro-​inverters vs big box on the side of your house) that would address shade issues better. Tom Semark was the last of 4 Sales reps to come out and was the best prepared. I certainly liked his honesty in mentioning and quoting a possible main panel upgrade — fortunately it was not needed but none of the other Solar companies mentioned it so I would be willing to bet their customers had an unwelcome surprise if they needed it. Tom turned it over to Karyn Ellis and she managed the project very well and kept us informed at every step of the way. I like the way P-​D does the project tracking — we were notified when we went from one stage/​phase to the next and could track it online — no phone tag or emails back and forth.
Our survey showed we had roof tiles broken and missing and they were replaced as part of the project — P-​D are licensed roofers so that part was included in the project and went smoothly — other solar installers may not be licensed roofers so you might have to juggle two contractors.
My neighbors went with the other companies and have the big inverters on the side of the house viewable from the street and their children say they can hear them humming — my wife and I said no way — we are glad we went with Petersen Dean!

I interviewed and received bids from 10 different solar companies. Tom Semark was by far the most prepared of all the sales people. He had the best understanding of the overall process and answered all our questions — a true professional. he has continued to stay in touch and provides updates with the recent PUC discussions regarding solar and the utility companies. During the process, follow-​ups were always on time and thorough. Tom helped guide us the entire time. Jennifer Knupfer, our Project Manager, was also very professional and helped us navigate the path with SDGE. As with Tom andJennifer, the installation team were very professional and did an outstanding job. When solar is installed on your roof, nothing beats a top notch roofing company to ensure it is done right. I highly recommend Petersen Dean.

It was a great experience to work with the entire staff of Petersen Dean, particularly with Tom Semark. Tom was only a phone call or an email away throughout the completion of our solar project to answer any questions or address any concerns.
It is turning out to be a great investment, and I think it will have an after-​tax simple payback period of about 4 – 5 years for us. In our case that turns out to be a before-​tax simple annual return of about 40−50% compared to any other before-​tax investment. That is a completely unbelievable return in this period of before-​tax annual return of about 1% on on-​line savings accounts.
Fortunately, we have not any need of any service after our installation because everything is working great. But based on our experience with them before and during the installation, we believe that their after-​installation service, if we ever need it, will be of the same level as before and during installation.

100% unacceptable service, or lack of it.
1. Made an appt. no one showed. No call. we called and they re-​scheduled.
2. Someone finally came and quoted us $ 650 for minor repairs minus our original $ 150 inspection fee. We scheduled the work to be done.
3. Again, nobody shows up to do the work, nobody calls … and we begin with the excuses. (car broke down, personal problems, etc…) We re-​schedule.
4. And yet again, nobody shows up and nobody even calls!
So here we are with El Nino and no roof repairs.
The truth lies in the fact that evidently they are busy right now and don’t need us. They have bigger jobs. But whats going to happen later on? If the same service person continued to be a «no-​show» you would think they would send somebody else? But, nobody really cared. Joseph was fully aware of what was taking place.
Yes, we got our $ 150 back and yes a letter of apology came with it, after many words were exchanged. Should we have had all this aggravation and had it drag on for so long? Its now too late and we most likely will not be able to get anyone to come out. Never have I ever dealt with a company so very unreliable.

I contacted numerous Solar companies for a quote before I talked to Petersen Dean. I was not too impressed with many of the companies I spoke to, or the people representing those companies. When I contacted Petersen Dean I was helped by Gary Phillips of the inside sales team. He was awesome. No nonsense, didn’t try to hard sell me. Just gave me straight answers. Of all the companies and people I spoke with Gary and Petersen Dean were the best. If your interested in solar power I suggest you give them a call.

Wanted to write a quick review of my PD solar installation. We chose PD after researching the locally available solar companies. We started the process back in July, got our pre-​approval with the HERO program for financing and got 4 different quotes. PD and the salesman Doug Hein where thorough and honest on what the system could do and the true cost involved. Living in the city of Anaheim we applied for the grant and the project was contingent on our receiving the grant. The grant application window closed on September 30th, we received our letter of approval for the grant on October 28th and the system was installed on November 4th. The crew that PD sent out was professional, respectful and knowledgeable. They did all they could to make the installation as visually clean as possible. All that is left is the City inspector approval and Anaheim Power to approve it for grid connection. I look forward to my new power bills and my small contribution to reducing my carbon footprint. I wound not hesitate to use them again in the future.

I went through the process with my representative after paying the $ 49 refundable reservation fee. It was fine, had some follow-​up questions but could not get them answered and when I looked at another company I found some pretty large differences in the cost. Items like main panel upgrades and other add on fees that I didn’t understand. Why not just include them in the price? There was a big difference in the power output between the companies I talked to. PD was very high on the power generation output but I was told by other companies that I could not put that many panels on the roof due to weight and there were shady areas that did not make sense and I would not get anywhere near the power generation quoted. Others were very upfront about that and would not promise anything higher than 6KW. Two companies said the same thing so I am not sure PD really thought through the proposal they presented. Less panels would have lowered the price but we still had issues with the add on’s. I decided not to move forward and PD returned the money within a few days on the first call. I liked the idea of a roofer doing the work but from the cost situation I could not get close to the competitive quotes I received. I am guessing the 2.99% vs. the 5.99% from others had something to do with the add on’s as well to cover the buy down of the loan. I would say talk to them but you need to chat with at least 3 companies. The technology is different which drives the pricing in many directions. My payback was at least 8 years for a 6 KW system in today’s environment and that could change depending on the what the PUC allows SCE to charge in the future for connection fees. I switched to time of use pricing with SCE and have been saving about 20% a month right off the bat with some adjustments on when I run pool motors and other appliances. That has helped. Have the conversation with them for sure but prepared to do the homework and math to make sure it is right for you. The ROI is longer than I had hoped.

Started out a bit rocky, but overall results and end results are excellent. After a few months of official usage, I can say the system met my expectations. I upgraded to using microinverters with the Enphase system and that was proven to be a good move. The monitoring of the system and where each panel have their own little inverter that individually produces power and not all your eggs in 1 basket is a nice to have feature. I was also able to see which panel didn’t perform to my level of expectancy and PD immediately sent someone out to fix issue. The after sales support is excellent. I would definitely recommend. My sales rep was Dave and he follow up with my inquiries and concerns even months after I already had the system up and running.

What a great experience we had with Petersen Dean. We would use them again in a heartbeat. From the estimate all the way to the roof installation everything went perfect. Last year, during Anaheim’s Solar Rebate season, I researched many solar companies and went forward with Petersen Dean (PD). One of the main reasons I went with PD was I had metal roof and I felt with Petersen Dean I would get the expertise in roofing and solar. The project manager that was assigned to my account was outstanding. Always responding quickly to questions/​concerns or directing me to the correct individual. I got a 6kW system and I love it. The electric panel was upgraded in 1 day from 120 AMP to 200 AMP, the solar was installed in one day, then 2 – 3 months waiting on Anaheim (inspections, energy exchange contracts, etc). Installed end of October. Fully functional in December. I thought I wouldn’t be getting much energy production in the winter. Even on rainy, cloudy days, I get 6−7kWh. At the time of this post, I’m producing close to 35kWh on a sunny day in April. Exactly the amount I need for my pool pump, electric vehicle, and my tech gadgets and lights. I actually send a few kWh back into the grid daily. I would highly recommend Petersen Dean. I financed the solar with the HERO program.

Don’t be fooled by lack of power generation in winter. Now only generating 8 to 10kwh per day vs 20 to 24 in summer. I racked uo $ 180 in credits with Edison and now eating into it.. Days are 4 hours of less sunlight plus cloudy and overcast days are kwh generation killers…

This is the second time I have used petersendean for a reroofing project and they were awesome. Being the owner of many properties across California finding an honest and reliable roofing company can be a real challenge, boy do I have some horror stories of other firms I have used in the past.
Petersendean was honest, reliable and very competitive. I purchased a new shingle roof and without me even asking they knocked five percent off of the price because I am over 50?. I love these guys.

Very disappointed. Got quote and agreed on price and timing but then salesman did typical «bait and switch» as he «quoted md wrong price, made mistake» and then price was $ 6000 more. Obviously did not go through with deal. Highly unethical behavior
