Haskett Branch Library

This place is clean, safe and well organized. I been going to Hasket Library for almost 10 years already. This place has always been great! The books are easy to find. The librarian is always there to help. You can reserve a private room to study for 2 hours maximum. I have nothing awful to say about this place!

There are some sections in the library are superior, but other sections that are far behind other libraries. Like other libraries, the atmosphere is quiet and most people find it easy to study here. However, it depends whether you study. The Kids section is the one properly maintained and is the most comfortable place to study while the Computer section would need an improvement. Overall, a library is a library. If it suits your needs, then you’re golden.

This library feels new and clean except the adult computer room smells so bad. It smells because of the homeless people who spends hours of time there. I luckily never use the computer room. My friend told me it smelled so bad in there that I almost didn’t believe her. Then I experienced the stench for myself. Wow it smells like hot trash.
This Saturday I was studying at the library and stayed until closing. When I used to the bathroom right before closing there were two homeless people using the sink as a shower. Of course I felt bad for their current situation, but it was very uncomfortable for me. Unfortunately, this library like Anaheim central library has a homeless issue as well. I would give this library 5 stars if the homeless wasn’t a problem.
One thing that I love so much about this place is the staff. I work w children with special needs and disabilities and the staff is just SO SWEET to my students.

People need to stop complaining about the «homeless problem.» Yes they are present, but they don’t bother anyone. If you have a problem with it, study at YOUR OWN HOME people.
This is my go-​to place to study. I have been here plenty of times and it always works out. It is quite and everyone is minding their own business. I get a coffee and snacks from the vending machine and study for hours. No complaints.

Great and quaint little library close to our home. Like taking the kids here especially on Saturdays. They have a great summer reading program also.

Doubles as a homeless shelter. Gets the job done if you need a place to study well enough, but then it’s overrun by loud children at times. Has a very small fantasy section and paperback section. Has to be one of the noisiest libraries on Earth and certainly one of the dirtiest, due to the crowd it attracts.
It’s an okay library, but could be much better.

I liked this library a lot better before it was reconstructed. I remember coming here every week or so way back in the day, always borrowing at least 5 books at a time. The selection was always great, no matter what genre you were going for.
All that’s a different story now. There seems to be a lot less books now, much smaller selection. Considering there’s a separate Children’s area of the library now, I assume there’s a bigger selection of children’s book; as for everything else, not so much.
Don’t get me wrong, the library did have a lovely makeover, especially its interior. The colors are nice, and there are very clean study/​conference rooms for use. They put in self-​checkout machines as well, in which you can never go wrong with.
Also, I like the outdoor reading area they have now. Very neat and lovely out there.
There’s also a separate teen section with, not just books, but also tables and computers. Now, when I’ve come around here a bit for some classic novels by Jane Austen or Charles Dickens, I thought it was a bit irritating that the kids that come into this section for the computers are constantly on MySpace and Facebook. I never see anyone working on homework on those computers. But… whatever.
They’re usually rather quiet in there, compared to when they spill out to the opposite end of the library, where the comfy couches are (basically the Adult section). There had been a few days where I was trying to work on a term paper in the adult section of the library, and some kids that just got out of school nearby came around talking, yelling, laughing loudly, and climbing all over the couches. Needless to say, I was not the only person in the area annoyed by this. It took a while for a staff member to come over and tell them to get their act together as well (and telling them just once wasn’t enough either).
Other than that, this library is okay. If they didn’t renovate the entire place, I’d give it 5 stars. I know the old library wasn’t appealing, as far as décor goes (or lack of), but I don’t care. All I ask for is a bigger, better selection of books.

I personally love this library!
It is a nice library and is fast on new books unlike other libraries. I agree with Arpan a little that the employees aren’t what you expect as in an old wise librarian, but polite and nice I give them 5 stars!
Also, it is free to hold books because all you have to do is just check-​it-​out yourself! Though, when the employees are handling children most of them aren’t friendly. Some of them are nice as long as the children use the magic word. ;)
Although a few faults about the adult or more mature section in books, it has a niece community with quiet places to study.
I give this place a 5 star rating for nice employees, free holds, quiet, clean (not a lot of litter or torn up carpet), laptop sockets, cheap rentals in movies and good for young children!
Wonderful place, but I agree that it gets noisy with the teenagers and such.

Very cute library, and very busy.
They have an extensive children’s section, and they have activities for the little ones. They have plenty of computers and space to sit down and relax.
There isn’t a huge selection of adult books here — they mostly cater to young adults and children. Your best bet is to take your children here, or order the books from the front desk from another branch.
The staff here is very friendly. I actually have a friend that works there, and she is awesome! They’re very dedicated to their jobs and are willing to help in whatever way they can.

A bit smaller. They have a break room for snacking. For whatever reason, it was extremely difficult for me to sit and get anything done. The crowd seems non study related and seems like people were just there to sleep and get free air. There is a nice area outside that I can use to work from.

I read books when I am doing cardio. It helps me stay focused on the workout and not feeling like wanting to go home after 10 minutes. Because of this, I go through books like crazy and I like the fact that I don’t need to spend a lot of money to buy books when I can use the library to my fullest advantage.
I like this branch, in fact, any branch of the Anaheim library because of their online booking service which allows me to choose any books, put it in my queue and when they are ready, they email me to let me know that I can pick it up. I go in, go to the small rack that they store all the booked books, go to the self-​service check out machine and I’m out the door. Easy peezy!
Parking can be a hassle in the evenings since it is next to the park. But because of the convenience and the speed of checking out things, I give this place a 5 star!

Great if you get here before 2:30pm on a weekday.
Tons of computers, seats, and, most importantly, plug sockets for laptops. Very clean library with other college kids on their laptops. There are also 3 private «meeting» rooms where you can work in peace. Also a pretty fast wi-​fi internet with no password.
After 2:30pm though, the middle school kids get out and cause a damn ruckus. Also, the workers’ book scanners make an annoying beep-​beep-​DING noise for EVERY book they scan… which is conveniently placed next to the study rooms. Just close the door though.
Great place to study before 2:30pm.

If you’re all about going to a new and nice looking library, this is the library for you! Don’t mind its small size though. =)

I walked in this place and noticed how cute the children’s section was. I got a great impression on this place, but too bad I was wrong…
I needed to find a children’s book on a certain subject. I asked the guy in the children’s section at the desk for help an he told me to go to the information desk outside. I went there and waited patiently til it was my turn to ask for help. When it was my turn, the lady at information looked passed me at the boy behind me. he wanted to use the bathroom and she was really mean about checking his ID before she gave him the key to the bathroom. Finially she acknowledged me. i asked her for help and all she can say is «have you used the computers to find your book yet» and didnt even bother to look up. of course i’ve tried looking dumb bitch. she also gave a look like «leave me alone». i dont know what was up her ass but i left to the central one and they were much more helpful and kind. if you dont wanna help people, then why the hell are you working at the information desk? the fat tard needs to get up off her ass. or the library needs to find someone that is willing to help or actually knows information.

Okay… this library branch kind of grew on me after volunteering there for a summer. It’s awesome… the workers are great: D
Hrm…the way books are displayed there is awesome, because titles are usually interesting. So if you just want to browse around and pick something up to read, there’s enough titles selected by the staff to keep you busy.
There are some adult quiet zones, but tehse are usually taken up by people doing homework or reading, which is awesome but there’s limited space. :(

This library was torn down and replaced with a newer library in 2006. For this neighborhood, it is a marvelous resource. And it truly makes me sad close-​minded people like the previous reviewer Arpan exist. In this day and age of a melting pot stew, his racist comments are just ignorant and beneath someone who supposedly loves books.
Guess what, it is a hispanic neighborhood, and yep, that means hispanic teens will be hanging out there. Get over it… or hang out at a sterile and overpriced Borders or Barnes & Noble.
And given the limited resources this neighborhood has; it will be used more as a community center than as a quiet library. That is fine by me because, again, I know how important this resource is… the books, the computers, the myriad of kids programs that are increasingly being run by a skeleton crew due to budget cuts; the community events hosted in the park.
I donate many items (books and magazines) to this library and it will need even more help. Budget cuts are laying off staff and the hours will soon be reduced. Maybe someone like Arpan can even pony up and pitch in but I doubt his kind would even be bothered making a difference.

I don’t like going to this library. During the school year, it’s mainly taken over by teens and preteens who think they own the place. Unfortunately, they’ve got it right — they DO own the place, since the employees there don’t address their bad and many times rude and disrepectful behavior. This is one of the noisiest libraries, with all the kids playing and talking loudly, making it difficult sometimes just to think.
The book selection isn’t large, and many of the books are on the older side. This library is in needof new books. Every time I’ve used the computers to search for book titles, I’ve walked away from the PCs seriously needing to wash my hands — the keyboards and mice aways feel sticky. One nice thing I have to say about this place is that most of the employees seem to be very nice and helpful.

Haskett Branch Library reopened recently May 20, 2006 after three (?) years of construction. It’s a lot bigger, cleaner and technologically advanced.
I liked it better before.
Before, it had books. Books and scarred wood tables that children sat at and scratched their names into. The carpet was dingy and worn. The computers were huge. But at least it was a library. It was quiet and an comfortable place to sit down and read. Going back now is vaguely unnerving. It’s become a hangout for adolescents. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a heart-​warming sight to see a child enjoy reading, but these kids are doing anything but.
Teenagers bring their laptops or make use of the library’s computers to surf the internet. They point out photos (explicit?) and go through MySpace. If that can’t keep their attention for longer than fifteen minutes, they switch to Facebook. The kids are loud and obnoxious. They throw themselves all over the floors and the chairs. They snicker at covers of scantily clad women and generally don’t know how to control themselves. Not to say all the children at Haskett Branch behave this way, just a good majority of them.
As you can see, I’m not very fond of going through the teenage rooms.
My only saving grace is that children, adolescents, and adults have designated areas.
If you intend to study, you can borrow one of the meeting rooms for an hour or two. More, if they’re not in demand. The rooms are clean, equipped with white boards and chairs, making them ideal for tutoring or studying.
Their computers are fast and up to date. Sadly, their shelves are not. The majority of the shelves are sparse and I have a lot of difficulty trying to find even the most common classics. You’ll have order them in advance from other libraries. They have more popular contemporary authors, things that you can find on best seller lists. Books by Janet Evanovich and mystery solving cats. They also have a nice selection of DVDs, a couple of music CDs, and some audiobooks.
It’s not a bad library, it’s a relatively quiet place to go. You can borrow books and movies. Near the entrance they sell donated books for a couple quarters. They have a scanner and a printer (found in a room with a snack and coffee machine). Their children’s section is beautiful and often features readings or craft sessions. Haskett occasionaly has events in the park behind it or in the library. Because it’s in front of the park, you can always borrow a book and take it outside to enjoy.
I recommend it but it certainly isn’t the best library out there.
