History

Established in 2009.

In 2008, the Eli Home hosted a large community forum to discuss community reinvestment. It was during this convening, that the organization decided to initiate a place-based initiative as an innovative approach to tackling the problem of child abuse by considering the neighborhood and environment where a child grows. ESCRI strives to provide economic opportunities for individuals, resources for families, and revitalization for the neighborhood. The first official meetings of ESCRI began in 2009 where a committee of organizations ranging from financial institutions, community organizers and affordable housing developers drafted a plan for the initiative. That year, ESCRI provided financial education classes and citizenship classes to local residents and former Eli Home clients and received its first grant from United Way of Orange County.
