A & John Auto Body & Smog Shop

I have been coming here for the last 10 years. I’ve had several cars that needed minimal body and paint work due to terrible California drivers. I also had rental cars fixed up before returning. I’ve had new bumper done on my Mercedes and they always seem to get the work done in a very reasonable amount of time at a fairy good price! Even though I have moved from the area, I continue to come here and recommend it to friends. Is is family operated I think and I have never been unhappy! The paint jobs are quickly done and the colors are matched as best as they can. It’s the kind if place you can be confident that the work is satisfactory and done on the cheap end. If you want high class high dollar paint then you should go elsewhere. If your on a budget and you need your ride to look good, go here! They are always busy and I find it best to go by and get a quote, then drop it off when they tell me to. Sometimes things can be fixed on the spot. Usually with in 1 day. They seem to do their best and will work hard to make you happy. Thanks guys! You will be missed when I leave California!

Love this place! Will always recommend it. Everything always costs me so little and the work is great! One time one of the guys even fixed something for free (it was minor, kinda. My left mirror was hanging off and I had it taped on with duct tape.) The guys are really friendly, some of them don’t speak a lot of English though. (I think they’re Japanese or Vietnamese, not really sure) But the work is always great and the prices are always low.
Only thing I wasn’t expecting was the location. It’s right in a residential housing area. Kinda shocked me at first, and the shop is really small, but hey, you really can’t go wrong here, despite the strange location and somewhat dingy look from the outside.

I needed a smog test and the location was perfect. They had a special for $ 29.95, once you add in all the taxes & certification, it came out to $ 40. Not to bad I don’t think. I was able to drop it off & walk back to work and then come back to pick it up. The guy seemed nice, nothing fancy but the work was done!

A & John’s Auto Body shop has great service. I was very quickly in and out of the shop after my smog check. If you do not pass on the first time you get a free retest after you fix what is wrong. They have all of the equipment to get the job done right! I like that they are up-​to-​date with technology and they use the Square app to easily pay on your way out!

DO NOT GO HERE! All they care about is your money and they will deceive you to get it. They don’t do a good job and they definitely have no pride in their work (unless they pride themselves on shit). I brought my car here to get it fixed and it turned out worse than when I dropped it off. The owner told me he could fix the dents and paint it within two days. I had asked the owner if this was possible because I thought a paint job took much longer. The owner told me not to worry and he could finish the car in two days because the hot weather would speed up the drying process. Being naïve, I trusted the owner.
Two days later, the car was «ready to pick-​up». I arrived and noticed that the paint was not buffed, sanded, clear coated, or polished. You could definitely tell that the car appeared matted in some areas and shiny in others. When asked why the paint appeared like this, the owner said they didn’t polish or clear coat it… Why would you say the car is finished and ready, yet not polish or coat the paint?! The owner replied saying that he normally doesn’t polish the paint unless customers specifically request it!!! I never heard of any body shop not polishing the paint because it wasn’t requested — This was total BS and I knew it. He apologized and said that they must have forgotten to polish it and asked to have the car for another day. Being stupid again, I leave the car with them, hoping that they would finish the job. I come back the next day and my car does look better, but I can definitely tell my paint job looks like an orange peel. I noticed lots of blemished areas, areas where the paint seemed burnt, and some streaks where they forgot to clear coat. Once again, I pointed out all the areas of imperfection to the owner and he dares asks why I’m so picky. Maybe I’m picky because, it’s my car and I paid you good money to fix it to its original condition. If I wanted a shit job, I could have done that myself for free!
I asked the owner for part of my money back because the job was horrible and I didn’t have time to have him fix it again, nor did I want him to touch my car and do anymore damage. He laughed and told me he couldn’t refund the money because he already put in the time. He then said that these imperfections were easy to fix and proceeded to grab a wet sand paper and scratch at my car and buffing randomly all over the place! I asked him to stop, because he was just creating more damage, but he was determined to fix the imperfections so he would not have to refund my money. Before I could stop him, he had accidentally sanded off my clear coat and messed up the paint even more. He then had the audacity to request my car for another day to fix what he did. I took whatever money I could get back and ran. I am never coming back to this place and do not recommend anyone else to. It was a waste of time for both parties and in the end, I probably ended up spending more money to fix my car from his damage than what I would have spent if I had taken my car to a legit body shop in the first place. Just save your time, money, and effort and DO NOT GO HERE EVER! They have a low standard of workmanship and care and will deceive you to take advantage of you.

I had my oil change here & my smog check done. Friendly service, fast & good price. Need to say more. I give them 5 star.

I took my car here to get a smog check. When I got there, a woman said the person that does the smog checks wasn’t in at the time. So she calls him, hands the phone over to me and asks me if I can come back in an hour. Um… ok.
So I come back in an hour, and he proceeds to take my information so he can start the smog check. He took a long time during the testing phase. Bsed on what I saw, it appeared he wasn’t too experienced with the equipment. He had to reset the test a few times, even taking my car off the rollers and back on.
And did I mention that their merchant terminal conveniently wasn’t working and could only accept cash? Ugh.

I found these guys on Unilocal and liked that they had 5 stars. Called to see if I could come in on a Saturday (they’re closed) and John said that they could come in if you set up a appointment! I had extra time yesterday so I called to see if he could see me then. He said that he had a woman on her way, but if I got there quick, he would start on mine. I went there and was in and out in 30 min. The lady still wasn’t there when I left. I told them that I found them on Unilocal and he gave me the « Unilocal» price which was $ 29.00 +cert. Came out to $ 38.00 total.

I have a confession to make… I am a long time Unilocal user, but barely leave comments. I guess if you want to hear an analogy, it’s like the radio listener calling the radio station saying, «I’m a long time listener, first time caller» statement. Anyway, I hope to start off the New Year by sharing more news to you guys. :)
Now, let’s get on with the good stuff.
1) My history: I have been doing business with A & John’s Auto Body, Smog, and Repair since 2010 when I got involved in two accidents within a month (talk about some horrible luck!). Since the auto body repair, my vehicle is still intact, so that should say something about their quality service. Another side note is, I have a modified vehicle and drive rigorously throughout the year due to the industry that I am in, so the outcome and appearance was very critical. Thanks and great job team!
2) Their history: A & J’s A B, S, and R has been around since 1975, so that should speak volume already. They are not owned and operated by a profit hungry corporation and they are not affiliated with a franchise. They are a humble family business that is part of our community, so they are here to serve us long-​term. My theory is if an independent dealer (aka– small business owner/​mom & pop shop) has been in existence this long, they are trustworthy, loyal, friendly, and courteous.
3) New service: Smog check. I love when a brand is versatile! That’s equivalent to Starbucks line extension with their Frappuccino. Originally known for coffee, but they have other products now. :D
4) Family business: As mentioned previously, the owner has been servicing the community since the mid-70’s and from what I have been able to gather, he has two son’s and a nephew working at his shop. They are in this for the long-​haul, ladies and gentlemen!
5) Professional enthusiasts: As a car enthusiast, I wish I was under their payroll. When I went to go pick up my car, I saw the owner driving a classic Mercedes that was restored by him and there was even a Dinan Bimmer (BMW). Two jaw-​dropping moments for me… wow! I knew my vehicle was taken care of when I experienced that.
Lastly, to sum everything up, it felt great to support my local community, a small business owner, and have my vehicle serviced by people who knew what they were doing.

I had to get a smog check to renew my car registration and I was happy to find out that my Auto Body repair shop now offers smog checks! It took less than half an hour for them to check my car and have a certificate ready for me to take to the DMV.
Pros:
1. Quick and friendly service
2. Only cost me about $ 29 bucks for the smog check and an additional $ 8.50 for the certificate.
3. There’s a corner store right by there that sells Mexican Candy =D haha
I dropped off my car for the smog check, walked to the store, came back with a bag full of candy and a lollipop in my mouth, and my car was ready. Score! Now if only the DMV could be this quick and friendly =P
In addition, I know this shop is well trusted and does great work. My whole family gets their cars repaired here. The work they do is top quality and their prices are competitive.
When in need of a smog check or to keep my ride looking like it just drove off the car dealership lot… THIS IS MY PLACE. Now the secret is out.

A reliable and trustworthy auto body workshop. You can’t make that statement about every shop. They had my car serviced in a timely manner and the staff are efficient. I recommended A and John to all my friends and anyone who needs a SMOG check as well.
