History

Established in 1983.

I started my own construction company at the age of 24. I owned and operated Mid Island Home Improvements from 1983 until 2002; after which I decided to accept a management position at a large commercial construction company. In 2005, after only a few years in management, I realized I was unable to shake the desire to build, so I started a new company, Turtle Contracting Corp.

Turtle was first licensed in Nassau County; expanding only through referrals, we found our way to Suffolk County in 2006. Then, as some of our clients had second homes in Manhattan while others had friends in Queens and Brooklyn, it was only natural to seek a license for the five boroughs of New York City, which was first issued in 2007.

Someone once asked a client to describe Turtle Contracting Corp in one word. «Integrity,» was their response. I feel such a sense of pride to know our reputation is defined by high professional standards.

Meet the Business Owner

Lou A.

Business Owner

I distinctly remember lying in bed anxiously waiting for morning to come. A real sense of purpose consumed me. At daybreak I would bolt out of the house with my tools ready for «work». Nothing seems unusual about that, does it? Well… I was 3 years old. Later my mother would tell me that I was always building things. A pile of wood was my sandbox!

While many children dream of becoming doctors and lawyers and even the President, I always knew that I would build. And build I did. All through school I took every woodshop class offered; foreman in every class, BOCES and even received an award or two along the way.

I owned and operated Mid Island Home Improvements from 1983 until 2002; was a manager at a large commercial construction company. In 2005 I started Turtle Contracting Corp.

Now, over fifty years since that 3 year old bounded out of his house, whether I find myself renovating, remodeling or building from the ground up, I still do what I love and love what I do. So will you.
