I would’ve given this restaurant at least 4 stars because my kids loved their patties and coco bread and their goat stew is tasty. But I think the goat stew is overpriced considering the small portion of the meat, there are more rice and veggies than the stew itself. They should’ve called it «rice combo with goat stew on the side». And the reason why I’m rating this place with 1 star because I got a call from my bank, in the fraud department, that someone from this establishment tried to use my credit card for a different transaction. Thank god my bank caught this right away. BEWARE: DONOTUSEYOURCREDIT/DEBIT CARDATTHISPLACE.

This is the Jamaican spot across street from Little Jamaica. It’s the opposite, the service, parking, eating space w tv(environment) is good but the food isn’t all that. I’m not a fan of chain restaurants when it come to Jamaican I like the little authentic spots that are family owned. When I’ve had golden krust in the past it was pretty much frozen food reheated w their generic recipes. Now with this spot it’s hit or miss with how they season the meat or the cabbage. The ox tails don’t have a gravy it’s a juice so there isn’t anything to put on the rice or cabbage. And ox tails aren’t good without gravy. I came for lunch one time and the cabbage was so good, fresh, well seasoned and had mix veggies in it, today it was firm like it needed to be cooked more and had large chunks that could’ve been cut more. The jerk chicken is inconsistent as well. One time I ordered«jerk chicken» and they just added spicy bbq sauce on it and called that jerk. It’s ok for bbq chicken but not jerk. Today the wings were dry and dark colored, possibly over cooked or sat out too long(chicken jerky) I’d recommend coming here in morning. They have porridge for breakfast which was sweet and creamy. Also the lunch is more fresh quality food

I have been coming to this Golden Krust for many years and I have yet to be disappointed. This past Saturday I stopped by with my family to grab a quick bite. For a franchise resteraunt, there’s only so much you can get as far as décor or ambiance but one thing that sets this Golden Krust apart from others is the cleanliness. This resteraunt is in tip top shape everything is well put together and very clean. The service was pretty great. When I went in there was a line but it moved along quickly. They had three servers and a cashier. The servers were polite and helpful. I’m a picky eater and kept changing what I wanted or how I wanted. They didn’t even raise an eyebrow at me they just gave me exactly what I wanted. The pricing is pretty typical, I ordered the curry goat with white rice and I believe it was around $ 7 or $ 8. For the price, you get a large portion and a choice of two sides. My cousin got the oxtail and she was raving about it my grandmother had the chicken soup and said it was delicious & my aunt had the fish and said she never tasted a stew that was so delicious! We all enjoyed our meals. As far as drinks, they had soadas, water and Caribbean juices in the fridge. There was tea, coffee and even ovaltine! I was happy to see that they sold ovaltine because I love it and can only make it at home. They had a large selection of patties, I usually get spicy beef with cocoa bread; you just can’t go wrong with that order it’s ALWAYS great. For those of you who ejooy rum cake they sell it by the slice and even the whole cake which would make a great gift when visiting people’s homes during the holidays(I Definitely plan on ordering a cake) they also have a HUGE parking lot with lots of parking. If you park in the lot you can go in to the resteraunt through the side entrance & if you’re just going inside to pick something up you can go through the front entrance. I recommend this GK and I will definitely continue to visit!

I come in only to catch a worker who thoroughly seems interested with her phone. Whatever was going on, must’ve been important because her only recognition of me was«Hey yo! You got a customer!» If she even glanced over at me, I might’ve at least felt somewhat welcome. But nope. The décor was pretty bad. I was going to write something eloquent and sarcastic but there’s no point. The faded walls, miscellaneous signs, crummy floors, and even the questionably clean counter screamed for this establishment to be made-over. Like whoever owned this place just really decided to rely on whatever repeat business it could muster and resolved that the customer experience was all but just a detail. The food? I purchased 5 chicken patties and 5 spicy beef patties for my evening small group back in the city. They were behind a dingy looking heating cabinet along with a few bags of coco bread. I’m sorry but it was bad. The filling for the chicken and beef patties looked like grey and brown mashed potatoes, respectively. Like, ahhhhh. Why, oh why. The crust was okay… edible. But man, the insides just oozed with I-don’t-care-that-I-was-recently-defrosted-ness. On top of that I was given a bag of coco bread that was about 25% rock hard from hanging out in heater cabinet. It was in there for so long, it shouldn’t have even be sold. What’s the worst thing? This mess of a meal cost me $ 30! The only reason I purchased it was because i was in a rush and stalwartly decided as I was parking my car that I would pick up something from this place, no matter what. Actually, no the worst was when I walked back out the side door and happened to catch a glimpse of the kitchen. Imagine this: two men in aprons, possibly in caps, hovering over a raw chicken or goat-filled dimly lit stainless steel sink. Gah. Just all up doing their meat-work in what I can only imagine to have been an un-sterilized, who-knows-what-was-there sink. I generally try not to be negative. Go on, you can read my other reviews, but I just had to be honest here. The only reason i didn’t give it a lonely 1-star was because the second worker that took over the preoccupied worker’s spot might’ve kindly called me «honey» in that cordial way we all love. Like, «No worries, honey.» If only that were true.

For a franchise Jamaican restaurant the food is pretty good here. Nothing more than your typical sit down fast food joint(no pun intended) Eats: — Jerk Chicken definitely didn’t have its«jerk» which was a bit disappointing. I was hoping for something really spicy. — Stew chick was really good and moist — Sides were rice, plantain and cabbage all was really good. I can actually just come here for all these three and leave really happy Likes: — Portion side is definitely big for the price you pay — Good selection of Caribbean drinks — Parking located in the back

I was happy to receive such large portions for the value. I probably would have given this place three stars, but she forgot the plantains. I come in scared, but can you blame me? This place is in a very seedy section of town. To tell you the truth, I would be coming in more often with groupons if I wasn’t afraid of some of the mean people who surround the area. I am a fan of authentic soda this place has. I’m a bit scared that this place may need to be cleaned up and scrubbed down.

I’m reviewing this franchise Caribbean place because I’ve been back twice… and because I like something about the people in here. It’s authentic in that there are real Jamaican staff. reggae music going… and they are super friendly. Like. seeing I have no idea what to order and deciding it for me. lol. Jerk chicken, and curry chicken this time. and pineapple soda, and champagne soda. as they have in Jamaica. lol. added some collard greens(not my fav) but did like the cabbage that came with the food. You need that strange but good soda. People coming in seemed to be so friendly, and relaxed in there. Interesting takeout vibe. Have to say they are cool. Also like the story of the entrepreneur that started the chain /franchise and went big. A plus is it seems to do volume, so if trying something your not used to getting, it is fresh.

Grew up with a Golden Krust near me in Brooklyn so it feels weird reviewing it – it’s like reviewing your mom’s methods of raising you-which is 5-stars since I came out well. But back to Golden Krust-I eat here strictly for the beef and many other patties. This is what they’re known for and this is what they excel in. Groupon gave me the opportunity to actually try their meals.$ 12 for two reggaefest combos. And I ordered the jerk chicken – naturally since that’s what Jamaicans are known for – and stew chicken. Portions really generous, my straight-faced monotone Jamaican lady behind the counter packed on a lot of rice and meat for me. Also the group on redeeming on the phone was seamless and quick. Jerk chicken was. just ok, saved by the jerk sauce that it was drowning in, the jerk chicken fell short from the true authentic jerks I’ve had in the past in Brooklyn. Stew Chicken was. actually surprisingly really good, very flavorful, borderline too salty, but the meat was tender. If this would be your 1st jerk chicken experience I would recommend it, if not def try the stew chicken, I’m sure it’s not a popular choice but I tell you it’s good. Groupon was beyond worth it, and everyone should at least try their variety patties at least once – they always Jamaican me crazy!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Although the portions are large the food is always cold and the chicken is always dry. Definitely go down the block to little Jamaica instead.

It’s Monday. I’m hungry. What’s for lunch? I think I’ll use that Groupon for Golden Krust. Picture it. I’m on route 110 coming from Farmingdale. I pass a run-down motel that probably rents rooms by the hour. «Sayonara Motel» it says on the sign outside. Up ahead in the near-distance I recall is where that trailer park is located. Oh, wait… there it is! Right before the trailers on the left… Golden Krust! I «bust a U-ie», get a peek at the trailers real quick and then make a right into the Golden Krust parking lot. So, the restaurant is located in a seedy(and I’m being nice) area with stragglers walking around mid-day just a stone’s throw from the trailer park. Actually, I could have driven right into the trailer park directly from the parking lot, I think. Yes, random people just wandering aimlessly around in the middle of the day. I wouldn’t come here at night. Nor would I eat at the establishment. This place is a dive. Take-out was okay for me. I had a Groupon for $ 12, which got me 2 small reggaefest chicken meals. The portions were quite large. I could have chosen either the jerk chicken or the curried chicken. I opted for the jerk chicken. The meal consisted of chicken, rice, a few friend plantains and some cabbage. The food was good. Portions were big. I’d come here with a Groupon again. Without a Groupon, I wouldn’t bother. And maybe I’d bring someone with me next time. Single woman and all. You get it.

Hey Mon! You wanna taste of the Caribbean? You gotta taste this Golden Krust! Ha! Ok, yes it’s a chain but that’s not such a bad thing. This place is a good spot for novices to sample typical Caribbean foods such as beef patties, jerked or stewed chicken & oxtails. Be sure you get a ginger beer to complete your experience. The décor is pretty plain and its primarily a to-go spot. So if your an adventureous eater give it a try for lunch.
