Mindy is a class act [read ‘fine, hometown girl’] who gives a great haircut. And catches you up on the local local news at the same time! Yes, I know I wrote local twice!

Mindy, owner and sole barber at The Barber Shop is a true «gem of Amherst». Not only do you get a terrific haircut in a vintage barber chair (my boys have been going to see her since they were tiny — she’s especially fabulous with small people or others who don’t especially WANT to get their hair cut), but you can get recommendations on where to find a plumber, who has the best pick-​your-​own berries, and which high school sports teams are the ones to follow. Mindy is a great conversationalist and wants her shop to be a community hub, as well as the best place in town to get your hair cut! Stop in for a game of chess while you wait…

Mindy is an excellent barber with very reasonable rates. The wait can be long, but that’s because she’s good! Also a fine source of local gossip, but isn’t that what you want? Great barber shop. Kid friendly. Would also make a fine set for a mobster hit scene. Classic décor.

We’ve been seeing Mindy for years now, and this has got to be the friendliest place in Amherst. Our kids love this place. I almost didn’t want to review it at all for fear of attracting too many others. Timing is everything when it comes to a visit here. Sometimes the wait is long, but worth it.
