I wanted a low cost framing option for a movie poster I just bought. After waiting 10mins at the framing counter an employee came over and told me the most inexpensive option was $ 492 before all of their ridiculous coupon deals which brought it down to $ 188. The unhappy woman working the counter had the nerve to tell me it was because movie posters are unusual in size — yet they had wooden movie poster frames 10ft away for $ 72 and then 40% off. What a racket these stores have on framing. Stop raising prices and offering 50% + off everything to make us feel like we’re getting a deal. I try to stick to local restaurants and I will do the same with this. Hoping to find a good local framing business.

I usually prefer JoAnn Fabrics, but when I am at the Boulevard Mall, Michael’s is right there. They have basically the same selection of things, and the coupons from JoAnn’s can be used there as well. I was unable to find a gel food coloring that I needed, but they had mini-cake pans as well as sanding sugar! So I got everything else that I went for.

The girl with the red hair was very helpful and nice. The counters girls, however, were rude. I asked a question about the price and before I could get out my concern she cut me off. I asked another girl a question after I got my receipt because the first girl left and she seemed completely unhappy to be there and not at all happy to listen to me ask about sale prices. Pardon me for being a broke college student, I’m just making sure I’m not spending more than I have to. That being said I did find most of what I was looking for. The stock is always pretty good.

The staff here(particularly the manager, Danielle) just saved my Christmas. I ordered something online from an etsy seller that arrived broken/defective. Despite not having purchased the item from Michaels personally, they fixed everything for me at no expense. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude. I had never been to Michaels before but this experience encouraged me to return and maybe try my hand at my own projects — at least then I won’t have to deal with them arriving broken!

I stopped by because I needed craft paint and brushes and the store was on my way home. I always feel like I could spend an hour looking through the cheap bins at places like this, but I knew what I was looking for, so I went straight to the craft paint section(not to be confused with art supplies…). They had several options for what I was looking for. However, all the paint colors were mixed together and in the wrong trays. No fault of the store, probably a shopper putting them back wrong. On my way out I decided to look at frames to see if they had one in the right size. On my way, I found cheaper paint brushes than in the craft paint section(they were in front of the baking section). It would be nice if the sale items were close to similar items instead of being randomly spread out around the store. When I paid I was able to use an online coupon, which was nice. I hadn’t planned on stopping here, so I didn’t clip a coupon from the paper. All in all, a standard big box craft store. Nothing amazing, but nothing bad either.

I want to say that the framing from this store is phenomenal. The rest of the store, it’s okay. They usually have what I want, but there are many times that I may not find what I want, or I do and it is in poor quality. An example would be my most recent visit when I needed to make a fake floral arrangement(something not usual for me, so not my strong suit). The customer service was terribly slow and goes no further than what is expected of the worker(not much). The vases were mostly chipped or had bubbles that had become dirty from sitting in the store forever(probably because they’re chipped), and the exact silk flowers were very difficult to locate. When I found the flowers I needed they were in terrible condition and the employee offered to sell me a product to clean them(no thanks, don’t need to buy more things I shouldn’t have to). She didn’t show me where the other versions of the same flower were(had to continue looking myself), and she called the other Michael’s store nearby(Galleria store). That store said that their flowers were also in bad shape and dirty(what are these stores trying to sell at full price!). Anyways, I ended up leaving after realizing that every aspect of my purchase would be compromised by this store’s inferior quality fake flower stuff. As for framing, Beth is great! She is wonderfully helpful and goes above her required responsibilities as an employee for Michaels(especially if you compare her to many of the other employees I have experienced). If Unilocal separated the framing portion of the store it would get 5 stars.

This is a fine Michaels. Always well organized shelves. Well lit. Polite staff. They have a ton of product here too. Near TJs, BJs, Boulevard Mall, Buy Buy Baby and more its easy to get a lot done around here. Easy parking.

The store isn’t super close to where I live but I’m usually quite happy with the selection and service so I don’t mind driving out to NF Blvd.
