Menne Nursery and Garden Artistry

Loved most of my experiences here.
I had a bad experience with customer service and was very disappointed.

I contacted them in January for landscaping plans for our yard. This is because we were going to be doing extensive hardscaping and we wanted to get moving quickly in the spring — as soon as the ground was ready. I provided them with photos and a survey of our property. They visited in early April to take measurements. Then they visited again. Here it is, almost June and our plans are not only not completed, but barely even started! They phoned to apologize, but they forgot what it was we wanted. (This is at least two weeks after telling me my plans were almost done.) I’m terribly disappointed with their service. Yes, their plants are wonderful and their gardening supplies are great. But don’t count on them for your landscaping plans.

As nurseries go, Menne’s is on the expensive side. That said, I have been astonished by the quality of their plants. I have purchased indoor plants as well as seedlings and bushes for my garden.
The line of «patio» vegetables they sell is particularly noteworthy. I bought a «lettuce bowl» last year (it had multiple lettuce plants in a single large bowl that could be placed on a patio) and it was so good and went back and bought several more as gifts for friends and family. My boys loved the «pick a pepper» plants and the cherry tomato plant that I purchased produced from June into November.
My experience has been that the products they carry are worth the price.

Hired this company to do yard cleanup and an installation. Yard cleanup went fine with a good, hardworking crew. But the landscape designer was difficult to reach and basically abandoned the project. When I finally got a hold of him he was rude and dismissive starting that he takes time developing plans (mind you, we’d talked about this project for months) and gave me no date when he would even submit his plan to me. I finally called the owner who seemed solicitous and understanding but then never got back to me, even after repeated attempts to reach him. This debacle put my whole yard plan behind schedule and now it is too late to complete this season. I would avoid this place. They talk a good game but do not follow through.

The staff were very helpful and spent about 15 minutes with me helping me choose the right equipment and accessories for my newly acquired indoor plants. I know nothing about keeping anything green alive and the lady who helped me was very patient and took her time to make sure I was comfortable with the purchase.
When I went, I was a little worried about the prices since the item I was looking for was out of season and this is obviously a specialty store. However, I was thrilled when I saw the sticker and it was HALF of what I had found a similar product online at Walmart for — and for better quality and no shipping wait/​charges.
It was well worth the trip out to Amherst and I will definitely be going back.

contracted this company a few years back to do a major hard scaping overhaul in my small garden in the city (filling in and leveling, installation of a flagstone patio, cutting of flower beds, and laying of sod). while the basic work was adequate, the timeliness and professionalism of the staff/​workers was horrid. not only was i expected to supply the crew with refreshments (because i was told by the foreman that this would ‘help them get the job done more quickly’), but i witnessed them taking naps in the wheelbarrows on the other side of the fence when they thought no one was home/​watching. the job, promised to take just under a week, took well over two. once the job was completed, there were a number of quality issues that arose, including having to relay an entirely new lawn, as well as having to replace/​re-​install half of the flagstones (because the patio incorrectly pitched toward the foundation of the home). the cost was comparable to other estimates i obtained, but based on how the work was executed, i would NOT recommend this local nursery/​landscape company for your project.
as for their retail, Menne is a great garden center, but par for the course — some items are well overpriced, others can only be found there. its a double edged sword. i do recommend Menne when it comes time for winter seed sowing, for they have a very wide supply of seeds and equipment for this purpose. they also tout a rather bustling christmas trade when its the season, though these items too, are overpriced.
for the kind of money i tend to have to spend at Menne, i would much rather support a smaller business who could use my dollars more, such as Urban Roots.

I can’t say enough about Menne Florist & Greenhouse. If you want plants’ and flowers and vegetabels and seeds and daisies, then Menne is the place to go to for finding these things. Its big and clean and theres lots, even in the winter when they have holiday stuffs. I went to buy a Xmas tree there one year, but it was 2 days before and they were sold out so I had to decorate our avacado plant. The star was to heavy and kinda bent it. Charlie Brown!
