Crunch

I was pretty disappointed when Shannon left. Any of the new instructors shortly after didn’t come close to comparing. I recently started going to Antoinette’s classes and she’s great! If you’re looking for fun, yet challenging, classes I’d highly suggest trying her’s!

I have no experience with the gym as far as usage, but I do have a few terrible experieinces with the cancellation. So you know gyms are a shady business right? No? Well they are. Be careful, you will find more honest meth dealers out there. When mine and my boyfriends gym closed its doors crunch bought out all of the memberships. Well Crunch is nowhere near us, so I cancelled mine and he forgot (of course). No big deal, his fault right? Well I tried calling and cancelling for him, they said that he had to go in and fil out a form to cancel. What a ridiculous policy, but whatever. We went to the gym he had paying for months for the first time and the person at the desk said that the manager was out and we had to cancel when he was there. Does that make any sense to anyone? What does he have to watch him fill out the paperwork? Is there some scam I do not know about where people cancel gym memberships under the table? What doe he have to notarize it? Should I bring my attorney. No no, this is just a great way to ensure they get a few more months of you. Like I said, there are more honest meth dealers than there are gym owners. This place is a joke. 2 visits and no manager in sight. Oddly enough, they can sell you memberships without the manager around, they just can’t cancel one.

So disappointed!!! Arrived at the gym today at exactly
5 am. Only to find that no one was there to open the gym. My boyfriend and I waited in the car and other people kept pulling into the parking lot also looked very disappointed. Who wants to get up that early and wait in a dark parking lot??? 5:15 rolls around and we debate if we should wait any longer or just leave… At this point there is approximately 10 other people waiting in their vehicles. This is the 5^th or 6^th time this has happened in the last two months! Totally unprofessional. So needless to say we keep waiting… Hoping the owner will show up like usual. Seeing as though we have to get ready for work around 6:30 am we figured we would wait until 5:30 am and if someone showed up at least we could get a 45 minute workout in. Nope no one showed up. We waited until 5:35 am and still no employee of crunch fitness to be found. A bunch of the other cars pulled off and so did we. Maybe it’s time to move on to another gym. Great way to start of the week… NOT!

I have been an employee of the gym industry for 28 years. I understand that it is a competitive industry where everyone is volleying for contracts and members, but this owner has taken profits before customers to a whole new level. As soon as the grass looks greener, they jump, even if it means upsetting the culture and current membership in the process. I have seen too many employees vanish for the next perceived superstar. WNY is a very small community, I wonder how long it will take to exhaust the solid employee pool and end up with mediocrity and no membership? There is no integrity, commitment or compassion for the humanity of what they do. Perhaps the GM assembly line would be a better fit for the owners who consider people to be disposable.

Came to Buffalo to visit family in the midst of training for an Ironman triathlon. My sister spoke to her personal trainer at Crunch and generously got me a 3 day guest pass. I worked out for one day without any issues. On the next day I showed up to use the guest pass for the second time and the General Manager, Gerry Bella, told me he would not allow me in as the «3 Day Guest Pass is only good for 1 day» and that I should read the fine print… so, of course, I did. The fine print on the card states that it is good for ANY Crunch location for 3 consecutive days without any indication whatsoever that it can only be used for 1 day. When I read this to him he still insisted he would not honor the pass because I was visiting from out of town and that he would «have to make a profit» and charge me $ 10. We spoke back and forth and seeing that a resolution would not be made, I left without paying an entrance fee, embarrassed and feeling like an insignificant customer. If it is, indeed, Crunch policy to not honor 3 Day Guest Passes for 3 days for someone that is from out of town, a more professional approach for the GM to take would have been to allow the customer admittance, tell me that next time I would have to pay, and speak to the staff that issued the pass and resolve the issue at its source. I was disgusted at the lack of professionalism, the smarmy salesman-​like comment the GM made, outright lying about what was written in the fine print, and for making me feel insolent for questioning why he wouldn’t honor a 3 day pass that I was just given the day before. The experience has turned me off from Crunch forever. As an avid athlete, I will be sure to never sign up for a membership at a Crunch gym, nor will I seek to again obtain a day/​week pass from a Crunch gym on travels. Thoroughly, thoroughly disappointed.

Apparently they also just fired their best trainer to hire the managers mother in law. That kind of business practice is laughable. Shame on crunch.

I posted a complaint on their web page, but no reply within the 48 hours that it said was their response period. I will attempt to call their home office and see if THEY can give me an answer. At this point, I would assume not.

I joined Crunch a few months after their grand opening last summer. They had a deal where the membership fee was waived and I thought it was a good time to try it out. (By the way, I’ve noticed that they have the waived fee event every few months, so if you plan to join, you might want to wait for that.)
I absolutely love this place. It has a great open floor layout with an awesome variety of cardio equipment (including the old school Stairmaster, which I love and my old gym took away), weight machines and free weights. They also offer classes and although I’ve never taken one, I notice that they are always packed and everyone seems to be working hard.
The facilities are well-​maintained. Bathrooms and cleaning stations throughout the gym are always stocked. The locker rooms have plenty of lockers (bring your own lock) to use as well as the usual toilets, sinks, scale, and showers.
To top it off, the staff is always friendly and helpful and the price is right! They offer various individual and family rates, with the lowest being $ 9.99/month. Can’t beat that!
