The Best!
I’ve been eating at Bueno Y Sano since they opened in 1995.
I have probably eaten here 1,000 times.
This is the yummiest, freshest, healthiest food in the area.
The company is committed to the community and does lots of charity work for too many non-​profits to list.
My favorite is the BBQ chicken tacos. My mouth is watering just writing this.

Great, cheap food. The quesadillas are my favorite, but the burritos are pretty stellar as well. If you’re a returning customer, make sure you start a burrito/​taco punch card!

A lot of food for not too much money. Great if you love Mexican food or even if u don’t they have simple non traditional condos like chicken bacon ranch. It’s delicious and go on Tuesdays for a discount

I was scolded by wife, received a nasty voice message from a friend and an angry text from both my sister and brother because I wrote a negative Unilocal review for Buenos. They love Buenos. Also the owner (I think it was the owner) wrote a gracious response to my review. So gracious for that matter, I felt like a douchebag after I read his response.
My wife yelled at me. She said «What do you know about Salvadoran food?» and called me a less than flattering name which also means «two shooter.» In my defense, growing up in South Florida, I was exposed to excellent, authentic Mexican and Guatemalan food sold from road stands, street carts, taquerias and food trucks. The food truck thing has been down here for decades in Indiantown, Belle Glade and Pahokee.
For a few dollars — amazing tacos, rellenos, burritos, tamales, etc. always served with lime wedges and sliced radishes with plenty of Valentina hot sauce and a icy cooler full of Jarritos sodas (tamarind flavor is the best).
So this is what I thought a burrito or a taco was suppose to be. Upon my arrival in Massachusetts, specifically Amherst, it was different, much different than what I had grown accustomed to.
I will not change my initial review which is still below but I am adding this prologue of sorts to appease my friends, family and wife. Especially my wife, because as they say «This d – k won’t suck itself.» I will also add two more stars. Mexican food is not Salvadoran food. I get it.

After 16 years, a friend of mine finally realized that this place was not good, not good at all.
As a 2000 Umass grad it always annoyed me when in town that everyone only wanted to go to Pasta E Basta, Antonios or Buenos. All were inexpensive, I understood that but I could never understand how on earth Buenos could be described as good.
I also understood the background story that kids loved — college student decides to open a burrito shop while still attending class. A local folk hero of sorts. Awesome but that doesn’t change dry, unseasoned beans and rice.
Cheap does not mean delicious and it was not that cheap either. $ 5.00 for dry rice and beans wrapped in a dry flour tortilla? Want anything else? Then you pay extra. Yes it was huge and you will have plenty to eat later but what you have to look forward to is still dry beans and rice.
Then again, most of the students who loved Buenos thought Ramen noodles were yummy, smoked way too much weed, spent their spare time sitting in the grass on the East side of the Student Union smoking American Spirits and regurgitating whatever nonsense they heard in a Sut Jhally class.
After returning to Umass for a visit with friends, I was disappointed that several of my party wanted to go to Buenos. We ordered to go and walked to the fountain. As my friends began to eat, it was sad to see the look of disappointment cross their faces. Some things should be left as memory. My friend who was also the most excited of our group to return said «This is gross. It has no flavor.» To which I responded «It never did!»
One star for nostalgia and quaint hidden location.

Very average burrito. The guacamole tasted a little off. Just beans and rice. About $ 10 with tax so not particularly cheap with the add ons. I have to say that the steak and BBQ chicken, although hardly any meat present at all, was very tasty.

Good, inexpensive food (burritos) are my wife and my first choices when we stop by in Amherst. My wife prefers veggie and I’ii usually get the chicken. Rice, beans in a large stuffed burrito simple but great food .Add your preference to mild, or spicy sauce and enjoy. The stores location will mark your Bueno card every time you stop in and get a free burrito on your tenth visit. We’ve been customers for 15 years or so, when our kids attended Umass. Have have been to there other stores and have never been disappointed.

Get a steak burrito and fill it with their hot sauce. I don’t know what’s in that stuff but go for the burritos and stay for the hot sauce. Best hot sauce I’ve ever had. It’s hot but actually has serious flavor. The best there is as far as that goes.

Straight up my favorite burrito place anywhere. Great prices, great quality and a good place for vegetarians.

Solid food. Good service. Big portions. The burrito was very well done and so was the quesadilla. Good prices as well.

Bueno is a great, quick place to eat. There are lots of filling choices and they all taste fresh and house made. The guacamole is good and there is a salsa bar where everyone can find what suits their tastes. I have a daughter that is vegetarian and she loves the quesadillas. There are plenty of veggies that can be added. They come with rice and beans. The prices are good and you certainly get your money’s worth. It’s very casual. Definitely not a date place. We usually do carry out and the food travels well. It’s a family favorite.

Never a bad meal! Love having friends who previously went to college in the area come visit because Bueno is always a must do for lunch with friends! Good and healthy!

Very friendly staff, the food is GREAT. everything tastes so authentic. the salsa is great. Highly recommend. The pricing is definitely reasonable considering the large portions.

The search for a great burrito is often difficult in the Pioneer Valley. Bueno offers a refreshing take on the concept with its fusion options. The Thai Peanut Chicken is all I ever get and it never lets me down.

Decided to stop by on the way back from Yankee Candle Village in Deerfield. Had a craving for Mexican, and was not disappointed by our meal — while the place gives off the appearance of a quick-​serve restaurant, it’s not exactly «quick». But thank goodness, was totally worth the wait.
Had the spicy BBQ, the wife had the pulled pork. Both were extremely tasty — it’s just a shame we’ll probably never visit again since it’s a tad out of our way…

I came here because this place was on Food Networks «Best Thing I Ever Ate». You are not missing much here many of my «best thing I ever ate» visits are far from good or they are over priced fancy places we can’t even get in to without a tie and jacket! Or like my visit to Panzarotti King in Camden NJ are life threatening.
Now I can’t say Bueno y Sano sucked, I gave them 3 stars, but it’s not great. I am biased by going only once but I don’t think I’m going back.
I told the counter girl it was my first visit and asked what the go to must have it was and she had no clue. When I ordered the chicken Thai peanut sauce burrito asked about the rice and beans «what does it come with»? The answer lead me to believe it was in the side. it wasn’t and I also didn’t get my roasted Jalepenos which I thought were a side order, nothing is made clear. The chicken was overcooked cubes very dry and kind of sparse there was a ton of rice and no Cilantro. Dude!!! C’mon cilantro ales the burrito and Thai world go round! Overall my meal was a disappointment.
The dining room was clean and had plenty of room. There’s even a disco ball, go figure. You walk up, order, wait for an eternity for pre cooked food to be rolled by the one guy, then go sit and stuff this football sized mammoth down the food hole!
Well I did hit the TV joint in town and now I can do what I do best, find outstanding places to eat and wire about it on Unilocal.

Yum!!! I went here recently for lunch and got the grilled portobello salad with a cream cheese stuffed, grilled jalapeño. The salad was ginormous! I had a hefty sized to go box after filling up on the salad, rice, beans, and pepper. Instead of the dressing, I just dumped some of their house made salsa on top and it was good to go. Can’t wait to go back!

If you are extremely hungry or intoxicated this burrito is average! Sadly, i had the pleasure of eating one of these things without those impairments.
The burrito lacked the synergy you expect when combining lettuce, pico, with warm chicken, beans and cheese then locking that in a firmly wrapped flour tortilla.
The chicken was pretty bland, the pico… anemic and the tortilla had a weird taste. I suspect it was gluten free.
The décor is simple, with an ag theme throughout. Kids behind the counter are courteous and the place is clean.

I’d love to try more so must amend my rating accordingly: a good sign in itself. Bueno Y Sano is a Burriton mecca — not the Mexican or even Californian burrito joint of the likes of Chipotle and Moe’s — but one like the best little fusion Burrito joints in big cities the nation-​wide. Their standard burritos of Rice, beans, Pico, and Cheese can be enlarged, shrunk, turned to a Salad or Bowl — Taco or Quesidilla. It is in the terrific diversity and preperation of the fillings which Bueno shines. I had a Pequeno Grilled Seitan Burrito with garlic (free!) and for about $ 7 it was filling, flavorful, and sustaining. I need to now try the carnivorous offerings and Asian twists like Curry and Thai peanut Sauce. For another happy visit I suppose!

My fish taco was amazing: Crispy on the outside still juicy on the inside. The vegetables were fresh and crisp and the salsa had a nice bite.
The grilled chicken salad was full and steaming and really, really good.
This is the perfect little drop-​in spot inexpensive and delicious food. If we lived here we would be regulars.
I would skip the chips next time; they weren’t very interesting, And the guacamole, while fresh, was pretty typical.
