I went to «Bart’s» last night not realizing it had changed ownership. I had a hot fudge sundae because they didn’t have butterscotch/​caramel. I thought this was the worst sundae u had ever had in my life. (I’m 80!). The ice cream was tasteless as was the whipped cream. I couldn’t finish it. I asked the salesgirl if this was still Bart’s and learned that neither the place nor the ice cream were Bart’s. Sorry new place. That was my last ice cream here.

I don’t know how you can give this place a negative review! The inside is freaking PINK! The ice cream flavors are wonderful! Margarita sorbet? Umm yes puh-​lease! Plus they give you as many samples as you need in order to decide on a flavor.

I ordered an extra thick shake and it came out the consistency of chocolate milk. I asked if they could make it thicker, and it still came back watery. I asked a third time. Still watery. I finally gave up and didn’t finish it after leaving.

Yummy homemade ice cream. Not sure what kind of ice cream is «icy» here. I sampled a few and everything was creamy. It’s a classic ice cream parlor interior and the staff was friendly and quick. Very enjoyable on a hot day.

Rating 3 — okay. Service was excellent; the ice cream is very ‘icy’ not creamy. Portion is small for the price. Party of 5 agreed we wouldn’t go back.

My mint chocolate chip ice cream was maybe the best mint chocolate chip ice cream I’ve had in my life! Lots of chocolate chips.

Stepping into this place has a vintage ice cream palor feeling :) Bright pink walls.
Their ice creams are full of interesting and yummy sounding combinations. I’ve had their mint chocolate chip ice cream and it was thick and full of flavor.
I personally am a froyo person than an ice cream person, but their froyos are alright (they also have a large selection of flavor like Froyoworld). Although their froyo shakes are to die for! I always pop in here for original flavor froyo shake. Oh so good!

Such a cute little place, the frozen yogurt was good on a warm summer day, the person who helped me was very friendly and the toppings were fresh! A GOOD pit stop while touristing this college town.
They offer a variety of things, waffles, ice cream, snacks, sandwhiches, smoothies. The décor is absolute cute.
Lots of seating and booths, also an outdoor area to sit and enjoy the fresh air.
Good place to hang out.

Ow, ow, and ow.
I lived in the area for many years, and while I was always a Herrell’s man, you couldn’t go wrong — in the day — with Bart’s, which had excellent ice cream … in the 1980s.
Away from the area for many years, and recently returned … ow. The prices have become ridiculous, the sizes have become microscopic, and the décor looks like someone was violently sick in the place for a long, long time. The fine ice cream they used to have has been replaced by the glop Snow’s Ice Cream (which now owns Bart’s) spews out. This is just not worth the bother any more, and it’s a pity.
Take note that the overall star rating is deceptive: the majority of the 3-​star and above reviews are pre-​new management. The low ratings? Those are the recent ones.

Tasty tasty ice cream. A little pricey I think, but I guess worth it for homemade. Milkshakes rock.

I paid almost 4 dollars for a medium ice cream. I got three small scoops! I am from Mass and virtually EVERY OTHER ice cream stand loads you up! When I asked for a squirt of whip cream they wanted extra money! NOT GOING BACK. Also, they were not friendly. The tables were dirty too.

If I am in Amherst and want ice cream, I will come here to the first ice cream place in the happy valley I ever went to — of course, in those days, the seats were tiny and uncomfortable, unlimited cups of coffee and in the same are but down the alley in a whole in the wall. When the moved and added the giant cow eating the ice cream cone, it just endeared it to me. However, if I am on my way to Noho later, I will wait and have my ice cream there at Herrell’s (forgive me Barts). I like the renovation and the new seating out front AND you still have rocking coffee ice cream … but just not the same as the good old days.

Was recently back in town and made a pilgrimage to the hangouts of my youth that are still extant, including Bart’s. Can’t fairly compare it to halcyon memories, so here’s how it stacks up against other ice cream shops of today.
The service wasn’t great… was there on a Sunday night and the counter was unattended when I walked in, with five customers milling about the counter ahead of me. Eventually someone emerged and we were all served, but then I couldn’t get a refill on my coffee because the employees had all disappeared again.
The variety of ice cream flavors is decent, but not exceptional. The prices for ice cream are more expensive than any other place I normally frequent, and the quality of the ice cream isn’t good enough to warrant the price.
Basically this place is toast if/​when a Coldstone opens up in the area. There’s nothing exceptional about it other than the pricing.

They have the best coffee ice cream ever. Other really good flavors are black russian, white russian, and black tiger. They are kind of stingy with the portions. One thing that annoys me is when they bother me about buying a pint with a credit card. A pint costs around $ 4.80 and the minimum is $ 5 but they shouldn’t be so uptight about it, you’re not supposed to hassle your customers.

Great ice cream, but chaotic service. No one knew where to go because the wait staff wasn’t helping and there were signs saying ‘order here’ but very confused people in two large lines who werent sure where they should be. The black raspberry ice cream with choc chunks was delicious. Needed better ac!

Such teeny tiny portions. Everyone I know only goes there because there’s no other ice cream or dessert places in town. Kind of sad.
If they were Herrell’s maybe they could get away with their teeny tiny portions, but they are not. Unless you really have a thing for one of their flavors, their ice cream is nothing special. It is way too sweet, and did I mention their teeny tiny portions? I have tried to like this place a number of times, but every time I go their with a friend, we each get nothing any bigger than a «small», and the bill never fails to be at least $ 8, and we leave saying what a waste of time that was, and how we still want ice cream, and how we should have sucked up and driven to Northampton. How is this even possible?
Employees tend to disregard specific requests. Lately I have been trying to cut dairy where I can because it also bothers my tummy just a bit. So, I ordered one scoop of coconut sorbet, with a «tiny bit of hot fudge, and a smidge of whipped cream». Don’t know why I even bothered. The scoop was dime-​sized and slathered in loads of sauce and whipped cream. Aside from specifying that I only wanted a little, that is NOT how you make a sundae! Yuck. The sorbet tasted okay, but was loaded with guar gum or some kind of thickener. I should have had them make me a new one, but didn’t bother.

Bart’s has some of the best flavors of ice cream around! My absolute favorite ice cream is their Coffee Heath Bar and on especially hot days they make a great Margarita Sorbet.
Sandwisch selections are a bit sparse after the re-​opening but still delicious. There are also pastry options like pies, cookies, bars, and more. Price is good for the quality and amount of food.
There is a small patio out front perfect for people watching and enjoying Amherst spring and summer.
Can also pick their ice cream up at our local Stop and Shop.

In searching for a flavor that I could not get from a tub of ice cream at the grocery store, I found it in Deep Purple Cow.
It’s a smooth blackberry blend with white chocolate peppered throughout. The consistency is what you expect for homemade ice cream and the flavor was not overwhelmingly sweet like the other chocolate flavors I tried. [I had a taste test of at least 5 flavors!]

Okay, a coffee frappé with top quality ice cream and a shot of espresso will get you five stars every time. Plus, the establishment itself is pretty cool.

Bart’s in Amherst used to be good. The ceiling was kind of gross, as were the bathrooms, but they have pretty affordable food, not badly priced coffee and scooped you some nice sized cones.
They are now under new ownership…
I have to agree with K.A. on this one The new owner hasn’t trained the new staff well at all. The scoop sizes vary dramatically, usually on the miserably small for the price size. Prices have gone up on most things, and the entire non-​icecream menu has disappeared.
You want good icecream and frozen yogurt? Go to Northampton and hit-​up Herrel’s or GoBerry.
Want icecream in Amherst? Hit up the Crepery — They have good gelato, and the meal food that Barts ditched.
The décor inside is nicer than it was, although the bright pink walls are a little intense.
Oh, and they ditched their free wifi :(.
