I’m relatively new to motorcycle-​ownership, so I brought in my bike to Dustin. He’s a younger-​guy (early 30s, maybe?), and he’s extremely friendly and knowledgeable. (Also super cute, but I sincerely doubt that’s relevant to most people.) Since I think he owns the shop by himself, he can’t do any «house calls», but he will look at your bike in the shop itself.
I brought in my bike for a full look-​through to ensure that my bike was in running condition. I let him know that I might need to pick it up and drop it off at odd times, and he was fine with that and clearly explained where to pick up and drop off keys. I let him know that I might not be able to pick it back up right away, and he had no issue with that. The work and check-​over did take a bit, but I took him I wasn’t in any hurry, so if you do have a deadline to meet, I’m sure he’d work with you to make it happen.
When I came to pick up the bike, paying was a cinch, and I paid by credit card. I asked for some special requests to a list of the bike’s condition on the receipt, and he had no problem typing that up for me. He let me know exactly what was wrong with the bike as well as a general cost to have it fixed. He was very candid about it as well as friendly — even taking the time to explain things further as I’m not particularly mechanically inclined. At no time did I get the feeling he was taking advantage of me, and after running it by some mechanic friends, they agreed that his assessment was correct — and that he was charging about what they would charge.
The only downside is that there’s really not much of a comfortable «waiting area» here. They do have some bar stools, but y’know, those just aren’t so comfortable for long periods of time. Within a short walking distance, though, there’s an Orange Leaf, a Bruegger’s Bagels, and the Hy-​Vee deli. A further walk will present you with Starbucks, Culvers, and a couple others.
The building can be a bit hard to find. It’s easiest to reach if you take a right at the stop light right in front of the DOT building; it’s the stoplight that looks like it’s particularly unuseful for going anywhere. It’s behind an apartment complex and a bank at a corner building.
As Dustin appears to be the only mechanic, if you have any sort of timeframe you need to meet, you might want to make that clear when you take the bike in. I definitely have no complaints, though! In fact, I plan on making him my regular mechanic.
