El Limon is my «go to place» when seeing a movie at the Ambler Theater. The menu is typical Mexican but their a few surprises. The fish tacos are fabulous! Servers are friendly. Enchiladas are very good. Everything is moderately priced and it’s BYOB.

I was absolutely disappointed with this place. I expected so much from its place because of the great reviews, however the service was terrible. After waiting for a table, the server was not friendly or helpful at all. You could tell that they were understaffed. After receiving the food which was an extremely small portion, I was shocked at how bland the food was. Being from an area where authentic Spanish food is very popular, I was very disappointed. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Will not be returning.

Always delicious. Al pastor nachos are my favorite and it’s so flavorful with that sweetness from the pineapple. The service is always great. We love the free margaritas on the weekend for dinner and the chorizo tacos are my go to. We’ve never been disappointed.

Free margaritas. Prices are on par with Chipotle, just that they have better food. The wait can be a bear, but it took me 45 minutes just to get one burrito at Chipotle before. Here, you get seated, order your chips with guac and salsa and get a complimentary margarita while you choose between a carnitas or al pastor burrito. Servings are large, and undoubtedly filling. There was a tres leches cake or flan for dessert but I was too stuffed.

«Free Margaritas??? Like free free? Let’s go!!» is my reaction when my friend invited us to El Limon. We arrived at 7:30 on a Friday night(free parking after 6 pm too) and luckily grab the last table while a line forms outside. The place is busy, small, crowded, and it smells delicious. We are warmly greeted and suddenly margaritas magically appear for the table. Doing my inebriated best to remember the food, we had nachos for the table, a steak burrito with mole sauce, a chorizo quesadilla, fish tacos, and a shrimp quesadilla. The nachos are extremely crunchy, not one was soggy despite plentiful toppings. Out of the four entrees, the chorizo quesadilla is our table’s favorite. The mole sauce is something new that I tried. It is okay, but personally I’m not a fan. It has a chocolate and nutty flavor. While we feasted, I watched the ebb and flow of people around us. Most tables turnover quick abd the line outside moved quick. We were there for at least two hours, and not once were we ever rushed. Instead, margaritas continued to flow as we enjoyed the food and good company of friends. We ended our meal with dessert — Tres Leches and Flan. The triple milk is very good(dense, creamy, very dairy), but I did not like their flan. The flan that I am accustomed to is light, soft, and covered in syrup. The flan we had here was more akin to a cheesecake in texture. Very dense but still with a sweet coating. Five stars for the bountiful food to price ratio, casual atmosphere, and friendly service. Although I didn’t like some parts of my meal, it’s a personal preference, and some people might like the mole sauce or cheesecake dense flan. Let’s be honest though, this place is an instant five stars for the margaritas!

We visited here after a friend recommended it — very happy we did. Took the whole family on a Sunday afternoon for a later lunch and it was moderately busy. The service was very friendly, our server was nice and answered all of our questions. I ordered a burrito bowl with Tinga(spicy chicken) and it was very tasty. Unlike other places that claim«spicy» this really was — and it was great! They do have free ‘Ritas with your dish! Very impressed with the food — this restaurant serves the closest thing to «Authentic Mexican» as I think you can get, in these parts anyways. Highly recommend it! But don’t take my word — Go and try it for yourself.

Absolutely amazing! It’s definitely my favorite restaurant in the Ambler area… It’s my go-to for date night, just a night on the town and am always introducing it to my friends! The food is authentic Mexican food and absolutely delicious. It never fails! I always go for tacos and tostadas. I literally crave this place at least a couple times a week. The burritos are the size of my head and the prices are unbeatable. Plus… Free magaritas!

This place is one of the better Mexican places in the area. Good eat portions, good price, and best of all, all you can drink margaritas! Lots of choices starting from the original tacos and burritos to the classic enchiladas. I love how they have all the different kinds of meat there. Staff is very friendly and very family oriented.

This place is so cute! And he service was great but the food was ehh. I had gotten the cheese enchiladas, it was nothing special. A lot of cheese and it was all stuck together not really what I was expecting. My dad got the cheese quesadilla and that was horrible it was tons and tons of cheese in between two very small pieces of tortilla literally tasted like a block of cheese smothered in oil. I was really disappointed because this place has great reviews!

This is a great casual place. Guacamole is excellent and the chips and salsa are fresh too. Really fresh! The fajita mixta is the best. Try the carnita and tinga mix. It’s the best! Salads are all tasty too. This place is a BYOB. very friendly and the service is good. What more could anyone ask for??? Second time not quite as good. The quesadillas looked great. And the garden salad was really good. Fajitas were a bit greasy and the salsa not as fresh. 4 stars this time.

This place was a jem of a find. The staff is nice. The tacos are so good. I love the spicy chicken. I have eaten here 2 times and I will be back. Food is fresh, meat is tender and tasty. Love the water with limes. Price is even better.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant in the little downtown of Ambler. I had the cheese quesadilla, a chorizo taco and marinated chicken taco. The cheese quesadilla came with diced tomatoes and sour cream. They give you two bottles of salsa — green, and red. The green salsa was my favorite. The marinated chicken taco was my least favorite because it had too much water in the taco. The chorizo taco was greasy deliciousness, but it was too salty. The simple cheese quesadilla with diced tomatoes, sour cream, and doused with green salsa was the most satisfying.

Definitely the best/most authentic Mexican I’ve had in Philly, great lunch spot. Around these parts you are either getting upscale Mexican«twists»(El Vez with its crab guac or Tequilas with its white table clothes) or really weird(really good) sticky table, fluorescent light Mexican(anywhere in south philly and the sadly closed Jose’s by Spring Garden). This place is a perfect balance. Really authentic and unpretentious but still absolutely delicious. The tacos are awesome, be a gringo and go supreme. I was super in love with the carnitas and the al pastor was really spot-on. The guac was also awesome. I think you’re safe trying anything on this menu. And also, the free margaritas.

Oh El Limon, you are our best friend. I moved back to the ‘burbs last summer and the Tall Man happened to stumble on some news about a fantastic burrito place right in our neighborhood. What? Ambler’ main drag has certainly changed for the better. We’ve come here many many times since then, and also have gotten take out. The Tall Man, who is from LA and has lamented the quality of Mexican food on the east coast, feels right at home here. And my parents, who don’t even like most ethnic cuisines outside of Asian ones, actually like it! I am in love with the sopes(particularly al pastor), but also really enjoy the tacos. The Tall Man almost always get the burrito, a hulking mass of shredded meat, beans and rice with sauce and sour cream generously drizzled over it. Plus they have free margaritas.(Watery, but free!) Guac and chips are great(Guac has a kick and the chips are homemade and a bit thicker than normal, which I enjoy.) I once tried the quesadilla but thought it was just so so. Their grilled chicken can also err on the salty side sometimes. Service is great. Everyone there is prompt and sweet. Might have to go again tonight…

Mexican food like I remember it from childhood. That’s what you’ll get at El Limón. The food is fresh, made to order, very tasty and good. The sopes are my favorite. The tacos are fantastic. For lunch, the tortas are excellent. The refried beans and rice are very good. What is absolutely amazing is the low prices. And, you can receive a complimentary margarita with your order. The people at El Limón are authentic and the real deal. You cannot go wrong having a great meal here.

Mexican Madness, this is where it’s at! Recommend: –Steak and Carnita Burrito(yes, it’s legal to mix two types of meat together– in fact, I recommend it!) –For the sauces, I asked for the Tomatillo and Mole sauce on the side(otherwise they pour it on top). Not a fan of sweet chocolate like sauce on my burrito, what mole tastes like. But I loved the savory spicy Tomatillo sauce! I suggest asking it on the side to test so you can find out for yourself what you like –Guacamole is a must here! So smooth and fresh, perfect with chips or your meal! Overall, this place is amazing! Just too salty for my preference, only issue I had. But this place is so cheap for the amount you get($ 7.95) — My burrito was LOADED with savory, seasoned, tender meat, thought it would burst! Or maybe that was just belly after eating it :)

I was hungry in Ambler and El Limon was the highest rated place in town. 4.5 stars with over 90 reviews. They were right. This place is awesome. When you first walk in this place isnt the easiest on the eyes. It looks like your run of the mill small Mexican restaurant. Then you take your first bite… I took another Unilocaler’s suggestion and had the Steak Burrito with Mole Sauce. So THIS is where people got the saying«awesome sauce». For only $ 7.50 you get a gigantic burrito covered in a sweet, spicy, peanut flavored sauce. A burrito half this size would cost $ 10 in Philly. And with that I was an instant lover of El Limon. Phenomenal food for great prices. Maximum bang for your buck here. This will blow the minds of center city dwellers. Ay yai yai.

Was here for lunch with coworkers. It was good! Very cheap and very good. Portions were large and everything tasted pretty fresh. The place itself is very basic, just a large room with many tables. The host /waiters /possible manager was extremely friendly. She even brought us an extra order of chips after we were done with our initial order. I had soft fish tacos and was impressed. The tilapia was sauteed with spices vs. fried, like it is in many other places. Really enjoyed it.
