Altadena Stables

Took my 5^th lesson today with Teri and can’t say enough about how much I love this place. So comfortable, nothing pretentious about it… Just full of people who love horses and want to share their knowledge with you! As an adult beginner, this is so important to me. Plus, Teri’s training style is obviously rooted in her deep understanding of not just riding but teaching riding (which is a different skill set entirely). Highly recommend!

I am getting ready to send my horse to board here, the New manager ‘Janell’ is awesome, very experienced horsewoman and very nice!
They offer, lessons, boarding, birthday parties and camps. I’m also going to take advantage of all of their services too for my daughter.
They feed top quality feed and have two live in employees, so there is always someone around day or night. A hidden gem!

Altadena Stables is a gem in the San Gabriel Valley. I have taken riding lessons here for many years. I have boarded my my old horse here, and I have participated in horse shows. It is a great facility to learn everything from the ground up about horse care, riding, and responsibility. Teri, the lesson instructor is amazing with all ages, and has a wealth of knowledge to offer! I am currently enrolled in the lesson program, and so is my 5 year old. The horses are all very well kept and taken care of. The facility is large, and clean. As my daughter says when she goes for a lesson «I’m in horsey heaven!»

I took riding lessons from this stable, Altadena Stables, for much longer than I should have and would NEVER recommend this stable to anyone. The teaching style there, even per the primary trainer, is «snarky». I call it unprofessional and unacceptable. It was for me a very negative learning environment. Mostly, I couldn’t take the yelling and insulting remarks anymore. I only rode there because it was a mile from my home. In hindsight — I should have looked elsewhere much sooner. Well, I finally did and am now very PROUD to say I no longer ride at the Altadena Stables. And YES — am finally having fun riding! :-)

I’ve ridden regularly at six different barns in three different states in my career riding so far; this is my favorite barn, hands down.
There are many, many different kinds of horses here, from papered show horses to very elderly horses who no longer work but have found a forever home where they are well-​loved. Both trainers, Marci and Terri, are extremely knowledgeable in a variety of riding styles, though both hold their greatest expertise and competitive experience in Saddleseat. They’re good teachers: honest, generous with their knowledge, and they hold firm to their high expectations of horsemanship and riding skills. Despite the quality of instruction and care, this barn is also the friendliest, most comfortable barn where I’ve spent time. There is no elitism or arrogance here, as I’ve found at other barns, but instead this has a down-​home feel.
In response to Janet H’s review: It is a barn; as such, it has dirt and animals. The animals are well-​loved and well-​cared for, even the former beauty, now elderly and one-​eyed, MissChief. (Other barns would have pawned her off – here her gentle soul has a purpose and a place.) It is historic, dating to the early 20^th century, and there is dusty old gear in corners and sheds. To me, that is charming.
This is a special place, a real Altadena treasure.

I take lessons here three times a week. It is a well kept stable with a nice large arena.
The trainers are very knowledgeable about English and Western riding.
This person Janet must have not been at the Altadena Stables. The horses there are well cared for and the grounds are cleaned daily.
