History

Established in 2009.

In February 2009, Karen installed a garden at her grandmother’s senior health care facility. The

change in her grandmother coupled with understanding the importance for everyone (especially

the young and the elderly) to eat organically grown produce created a desire in Karen to affect

others with her gardens. She decided to combine her knowledge of successful business

ownership, entrepreneurism, motherhood and organic gardening with the growing need for

healthier foods, self-​sufficiency and the opportunity to start a new, «green» business. It was on

that day that groOrganic was born.

When Karen launched groOrganic she wanted to ensure that it would provide only the best

American made products, support other small businesses and provide an educational gardening

curriculum to a broad range of users, including homeowners, apartment dwellers, schools, senior

community centers, and health care facilities. Karen is proud that Everyone can enjoy the benefits of organic

fruits and vegetables

Business Owner

Karen Cancilla, a serial entrepreneur, established her first business in 1985. She went on to open several more businesses before retiring from the insurance industry to pursue her passion and next major venture, groOrganic.

The Los Angeles-​based organic gardening company has a growing list of fans and customers, thanks in part to the «Slow Food Movement» and its devoted supporters, and word-​of-​mouth generated by people all over the country. Even Hollywood celebrities have generated a lot of buzz for groOrganic, many of whom enjoy their own groOrganic gardens. groOrganic is positioned to franchise throughout America in 2010, and Karen is realizing her dream of cultivating healthy lifestyles by bringing organic gardens to as many people as possible.
