Attention to detail is important, but during a divorce it is extremely difficult to maintain focus. The process seems overbearing and consuming, seemingly designed to destroy both parties involved. I had a great experience with Meriwether and Tharp. My attorney was in constant communication with me throughout the whole process. I made out better in the end that what was expected. We didn’t have any kids, nor a lot of assets to divide, but I always felt like I was important and settling my divorce was a priority for them. I can’t say enough good things about them. Not a subject I really like bringing out to the pubic, but I do feel that as a Unilocaler, I need to make the community aware. I had an atrocious experience at this firm. It was actually completely inexcusable, incompetent service. I hired an attorney from this firm to handle my divorce. Waited close to a month and a half for a hearing, which I was eagerly anticipating. I had asked prior to filing why she was filing in Fulton County when we no longer lived there. She claimed we had not established residency in our current county yet, so that was her explanation. We get to court, and I find out she filed in the WRONG county! So took a day off work, drove downtown… for nothing! Not to mention we had to transfer the case to the correct county, all the while wasting more time and money. You’re a divorce attorney and you don’t know where to file?! Come on! Then her paralegal sends me several emails back and forth about some credit card statements I had given them, and I couldn’t figure out why she was sending me my own statements until she realized she thought I was the opposing attorney! Seriously!!! So I complain to one of the partners, who smooths things over and promises to handle my case with care. Multiple times, I had to wait extended period of times for answers and he was not working proactively to get my case handled. Once, I called to talk to the paralegal, and had to leave a message but later that day, an offer was sent to me for review that had been sent to them five days prior. I got so worried they would delay things that I had to tell my ex to let me know anytime his attorney reached out to mine, so I could follow through. One of the final straws was being told by my attorney, «what am I getting so emotional about? It’s a piece of paper left at this point.». Meanwhile, I had to put my stuff in storage because my ex was stealing out of the house, I was spending thousands of dollars trying to get the case finished, and stressing daily over what was going on. It was ridiculous and I finally fired him, too. I have seen and heard advertisements for this practice, but just because you advertise doesn’t make you good. I could really go on and on, but bottom line is… go elsewhere.
