Georgia’s Own Credit Union

I joined Thrift Credit Union when I worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad and Thrift was bought out by Georgia’s Own Credit Union. I’ve been pleased with their service. I’ve had my account for about 12 years now and I’ve had no issues.

If I could give any less stars I would. This bank SUCKS. It is absolutely HORRID! I was very excited to finally consolidate both of our accounts and also open a 529 for our daughter. We ended up opening 7 accounts all together and were also going to open a car loan in the future most likely. We’ve only been members for less than 2 weeks and it has been ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. As soon as all the issues clear up we will close everything and either return to our old credit union or change to delta credit union. So basically everything that could go wrong actually did, but also 100% worse. At my old credit union, if I made a mobile deposit it would show as available instantly. However, at ga own, If you make a mobile deposit it takes 9 business days for them to release your own money even if the check has already cleared the other party. There was no warning that this would happen and it has been next to impossible trying to get them to release the funds. Also, I show that my paycheck has been issued but ga own still does not make it available. They just hold it and it will pend until the actual day that you get paid. Why??? So you can’t pay bills, you can’t buy groceries, can’t get gas, because this bank decides for no reason to hold your own funds for whatever reason they want. Member owned my ass! What member would want this for themselves? Also, I signed up for bill payer and had everything scheduled to come out of our joint account. The day before the payments were due, I noticed that bills were pending in other accounts instead of the one I designated. So good luck in the guessing game of where is this bill going to get paid out of? DO NOT do business here! You have been warned. We will change ASAP. we feel this is just a glimpse into the future of a terrible relationship with a bank that has horrid practices! Plus FYI, they don’t have Applepay, touchID log in, no live chat and their phone hours are only until 6PM every day. There is not an 1800 number that is ²⁴⁄₇ or even a little later. Really? How can you be a bank and not have an 800 number available around the clock? Their tellers are awful too… I had the same lady twice and I have never met someone that was so satisfied when she could not help you. She closed the account before she asked us what we wanted to do with the money in it. Imagine if Forrest Gump owned this bank and handled your account, because that is Georgia’s Own.

BANK? WHAT BANK?
I have been a member of this credit union for several years. It is located at North Point and Windward Parkway. I have always experienced great customer care and at times that they were busy, waits were reasonable.
I actually started using their services after comparing rates and conveniences to the bank I was using at the time. I also appreciate the Saturday hours that were not offered by my previous bank.
Today, I visited just to have a document notarized, (free service to members). The notaries were not available as they had gone to lunch «together» which means there was no one available to assist me. No problem because I was able to run a quick errand and return. The notary was back from lunch and my paperwork was completed in a very timely manner. I was practically in and out.
The ladies bathroom: God Bless ‘em! It looked clean and smelled clean. There was a hook on the door to hang your bag and there was a shelf to rest your items. Right outside of the bathroom is a water fountain if you need a drink. I so appreciate the details!
For members who tend to generate a lot of coins, (my spouse), there is a really cool and efficient coin counter that counts your coins and provides a receipt that you may redeem with the teller. It is very cool and provides cheap entertainment for kids and husbands.
Finally, this has been a great bank for my kids who started here when they were in highschool. They manage their own accounts and have never experienced any problems.
So far so good!

They have a coin thingy thats free for members.

Inactive Service Charge Fees for going out of the COUNTRY for a few months and they hit you with $ 98 in fees per month!!!
Stay away and just yanked $ 360K from their grasping hands into another bank!
I deal with more than 20 different banks for various items per the corporations I have set up, this place hits the low spot next to Bank of America for sliminess and that is worse than most politicians.

I have worked with Georgia’s Own going on 6 years and I have never had anything but EXCELLENT customer service. They are excellent in communication, customer care, and I feel totally safe with their «anti-​fraud» services. And whether I am at Windward, Perimeter, Peachtree Industrial, or Cobb — it just feels like a small-​town business! Thanks and Kudos :)

I have ben a member of this credit union for many years (since it was Georgia Telco) and I have done pretty much all of my banking here. That includes financing cars and mortgages, and maintaining checking accounts, savings accounts and equity lines. But recently, they have really gotten bad. The customer service has become non existent. It may take them days to return a phone call or email, and it seems to me like they are only working part time, because they are out of the office so much. Incompetence is obvious. I am looking for a better credit union and I would recommend that anyone not use these people.

I’ve been a member of this Credit Union, formerly called Georgia Telco, for over 20 years. Previously an AT&T based Credit Union that then opened up to all Baby Bell employees and then the whole Southeast, this place consistently outperforms «banks» on interest rates, car loans, mortgages, etc.
As a smaller credit union, they do lack a lot of the pioneering technical innovation found in big banks like BoA and others. However, I’m here because I like to make money and not pay fees.
All members have access to surcharge free ATMs at any Publix or Presto location in addition to any other ATM in the Credit Union (CU) network.
Their car finder service is top notch and have purchased several vehicles through them. Their vehicle loans (of which I have used car and motorcycle) are exceptional and saved me a ton of time and money.
This branch is only a couple years old and relocated from the AT&T building that was nested on NorthPoint Parkway. Getting in is easy, getting out is a little complicated. Like any other branch, lines at lunch can be long.
As for hours, as a credit union they keep typically bank hours to keep costs low. If you can get there during the day, the do have an outdoor depository and ATM services. This location IS open on Saturday.

For even BASIC banking service in a modern world, this place stinks.
Hours
9 – 4 most days. Except on Saturday, when their hours are even more restricted. And forget about Sunday — they’re closed. Forgive me, but if you’re managing MY money, explain to me why I’m adjusting MY schedule just to get to it? Desert Schools Credit Union in Arizona should be the model: They are open from 9am to 6pm every single weekday. Subtract 1 star.

Easy to find on a map. They get to keep one star.
Customer service
Sadly, they can’t even seem to do basic customer service properly. When I withdraw cash at a bank, I expect the teller to focus on the transaction at hand and count cash out to me. Instead, I have had tellers count cash back to me while they are involved in a conversation with fellow tellers. Subtract a star.
Banking products
The basics. Checking with a debit card. Savings accounts. Where it gets frustrating is when you actually want to USE your banking products. My wife and I have had repeated problems trying to do basic transactions (like purchases from the iTunes store). I’ve postpone several transactions I wanted to make on the weekend, just because Georgia’s Own credit union had things misconfigured on their end. I could forgive it happening just once. Even twice. But many — for many different transactions? And I’ve only had the account for a month and a half? Fail. What a joke. Subtract a star
Online banking
Their branch locator is a joke: It’s difficult to use and doesn’t have useful information. No mobile banking solutions (most folks have smartphones now). No transfers to external banks. They don’t even have different alerts to choose from — just a balance alert (how pathetic). Subtract a star
Summary:
Sure, you can open an account with just $ 5, but why would you? Look elsewhere. You’ll be more satisfied.

This place is great! Now, in full disclosure, I have only been here to do an auto-​loan. But, in my experience, this bank is top notch.
The loan specialist I worked with is a champ… I will go back to her for any future loans, for sure. I’m not very experienced with loans and purchasing cars but she held my hand, was extremely patient and explained everything to me in a clear and precise manner.
I was buying a car from a private owner who was leasing the vehicle thru a dealership, so the situation was out of the ordinary. I felt very comfortable with the transaction after talking to the loan officer and going over the scenarios. They even helped me with tag and title info… very top notch service!
The best part is loan rate was way lower than the bank where I have my main accounts (same bank for over 15 years)! I would recommend this bank to anyone looking for a loan.

I have been doing business with Georgia’s Own Credit Union for several years, and I am MUCH happier here than I was at the other big megabanks I used to do business with. They are always friendly and helpful when you go in, no matter whether you are there to deposit money, take out a loan, get some problem fixed, or whatever. I really enjoy doing business with them. Unfortunately, the entrances and exits from this particular branch office leave something to be desired. Once in the parking lot, there’s no way to take a left-​hand turn out of the parking lot, instead requiring you to either go right onto North Point Parkway and make a U-​turn at the light right nearby, or go right onto Windward and ultimately take a U-​turn at a light further down Windward. Either way, it can be a pain to get set up. There is a back exit from the parking lot, but it takes you well out of the way, and can be difficult to navigate. There is also a lack of signage as to which way to go once you leave the parking lot, so it tends to be difficult to take that back exit.
To a certain extent, I preferred when this branch was in the basement of the nearby AT&T building, but I must admit that they have a LOT more space where they are now.
