History

Established in 1993.

With the dedicated work of Mike and Shirley Liu, Café at Pharr opened its doors in the spring of 1993. Despite their best efforts, business was frustratingly slow.

However, after several months, Mike reconceptualized the café’s menu by getting rid of the decadent pastries and incorporating healthy sandwiches and salads.

As more and more customers spread the word on the café’s delicious yet healthy chicken salad sandwiches (the walnut chicken salad continues to be our most popular), business slowly started to pick up.

By 1995, business was booming, with customers lining up for the freshly baked bread, all the various chicken salads and the yogurt rolls. The Café at Pharr began and continues to function as a Mom ‘n’ Pop shop, serving hundreds of healthy Atlantans daily.

Today, Café at Pharr is run by Mike and Shirley’s son Johnny, who has opened multiple locations around metro Atlanta and hopes to open more in the future.

I’ve come here a couple times for lunch. There’s nothing spectacular about it but it does have very high reviews. There’s barely any decorations in the restaurant and it’s usually not very crowded. A normal turkey sandwich, with lettuce and tomato on your choice of bread, comes with about 8 grapes on the side and a small yogurt roll for $ 8 plus tax. In my opinion, that price is pretty high for a small deli sandwich. They don’t add sauce so it’s a bit dry. The second time I went, I asked for a Turkey sandwich and the waitress must’ve heard teriyaki chicken sandwich because that’s what they brought out. It had an interesting homemade sauce which made it a little less dry but there still wasn’t much in the sandwich.
I wouldn’t really recommend this restaurant because their sandwiches are too bland for me.

Super friendly people, tasty food. Shrimp salad is excellent and healthy with ginger dressing. Chicken salad is tasty, more of the minced up style than the chunky kind. Quick and easy lunch.

I love the ginger salad dressing!
It took a long time for our food to come out so next time I think I’ll just call ahead. It wasn’t very busy for lunch on a Wednesday.
I had the ahi tuna salad — a bit pricey but was really delicious. My friend got the club sandwich which he loved.

Was introduced to this place by a colleague… and went back for three straight days! Really like their salad plates… it is all I have tried so far! My colleague had one of their rice bowls, the Curry Chicken, and he enjoyed it.
I have tried the Egg and Potato Salad and the Walnut Chicken Salad. Both are served on a bed of lettuce with a slice of bread, some grapes and two of the yogurt rolls. The Egg and Potato Salad is a very good egg salad with some potatoes in it. The Walnut Chicken has walnuts and golden raisins, again, very good.
The salad comes with their homemade Ginger Vinagrette, which is excellent! The salad is some lettuce and carrot… so, very simple… but very good.
The yogurt rolls are a good «dessert»…some of their good bread with some sweetened yogurt in the middle… a good way to wrap up a good lunch.

Really great food! I actually love the location for selfish reasons — it’s not in a high traffic area ((lol)). I had the Walnut Chicken Salad. Sooooooooooooooo good. The grapes on the side were very refreshing. The bread was amazing!

Noticed this tucked behind CVS the other day and added it to my list of paces to try. It’s a simple styled café offering soups, salads and sandwiches along with a couple of rice plates. I tried the teriyaki chicken rice plate and it was a bit different than what I was expecting. The chicken is plated seperate from the onions and mushrooms with rice off to the side. I asked for a little extra sauce on the side just to be able to mix it all together. It had great flavor, but I’ll probably order a BLT next time. The staff was extremely friendly and always smiling. They are quick to greet you and walk you to the door on the way out.

I decided to give Café At Pharr a try recently. Prior to reviewing their website, I was not aware of their other locations, but I pass by this one enroute to Starbucks.
The menu consists of sandwiches, salads, soups and rice plates.
A selection of beverages and crisps are also available.
I ordered a celery chicken salad sandwich on multigrain bread. Five bread choices are available. The sandwich was $ 7.50 or available as a salad for $ 9.
The sandwich comes with lettuce and tomato. The sandwich was good; the bread soft and the lettuce and tomato were fresh.
The sandwich is accompanied with chilled grapes and two yogurt rolls.
Great place for lunch and I plan to visit again.

Great food. The Curry Chicken Rice dish is absolutely wonderful. The sauce is perfectly rich, and the cubed chicken breast is always very tender. The sticky rice is like none I’ve had before. It is by far the stickiest rice. Just a great dish. Also, the sandwiches are big and hearty. Reasonable prices, and a very, very friendly staff. They were open to our suggestion to do a half-soup/half-sandwich deal, and they started offering it the same week! Try the homemade cookies!
