We love this place and come here all the time. I get the pollo la plancha or the fish tacos most of the time but there’s a bunch of great stuff on the menu.

Fantastic find! Skip the Sysco Mexican carbon copies, and you can thank me later. The Boga tacos would be worth it at twice the price.

I went here today for lunch with a couple of people from work. My mouth watered a little more with each plate that came out. Crystal ordered the Tacos Loncheros(steak taco), Brett had the combo #3, beef enchilada, chicken chalupa & rice and beans, and I had soup and Torta(sandwich) combo. The soup was posole and the the sandwich was the Milanesa(panini bread with chicken, arugula, avocado, black bean corn relish, with habanero lime mayo. It was super tasty. I’m glad it was only a ½ because it was HUGE. The soup was also delicious. I love the little sides of fresh onion, radish, salsa verde, and lime they give you to add to your soup. It took it to another level. Also a note on the service. Everyone was very attentive and always made sure we were taken care of without hovering. Our glasses were always full and our server knew her menu. She described the food well. Our meals also came out quickly and were hot and very well presented.

Fish tacos: limp tilapia, with just plain cole slaw, wrapped in a generic soft taco. Bland and soggy. On a Wednesday at 8pm, there were way more empty tables than occupied tables.

Big ups and downs here… the food was good. Good tasting, came out fast, looked nice. The service was kinda spotty, the dining room is awkward in it’s layout, and pretty small. And, this place was empty as hell when we went(at 12:30 on Tuesday). I usually don’t trust a place that is empty during the lunch rush. Prices are a little high for what they offer, I had tacos. Yep, the kind you find at every nu-mexican place around atlanta. Just a soft tortilla with some meat and stuff inside. $ 11, and it was on the lunch menu. That could be the reason why the place was empty. Don’t get me wrong the food was tasty but the price is a little unreasonable. It really seemed liked they were trying to do upscale mexican in a place that doesn’t look upscale or taste upscale. I was confused by the concept. You’ll see what I mean when you enter… Overall, not bad but they really need to find an identity and go with it.

Just had to add a new tip based on recent visits: the el macho… it is so good. So so so good. Can’t get enough of it can’t drive past this place without stopping good. So good! Something about the way they cook their pork drives me insane. Please, if you are thinking about going… just go. Such a great place, sweet owners… worth a try.

Second time at this place. It was just as good as the first time. High quality food excellently prepared. They have a great menu with plenty of things that seem worth trying. When I’m in this area I would return again and again.

Came here because of a deal running on Scoutmob. It’s located in a small strip next to Kroger. The restaurant was very trendy with very clean and minimal design. I ordered the fish tacos. My daughter had taco pastor, which was a very strange combination of mango and chicken. It just didn’t work for me. Fish tacos were nothing to brag about. I opted for the tilapia grilled. Chips were okay but salsa tasted like picante sauce, which for me is a bad thing. Margarita was fine but could of been a bit stronger. Overall I would rate this 1.5 stars but I’ll round up. Of course because of my ADD, I forgot to use the Scoutmob coupon. For the price without discount and quality of food, I doubt I will be back.

This place is so amazing! I have had el macho and the enchiladas. They were both so good I will have a hard time choosing next time I go.

First of all I have to hand it to the Alpharetta/Atlanta area. In the past 2 weeks I’ve eaten at 4 Mexican restaurants and 3 of those 4 were totally amazing. Boga is one of those excellent ones. The Unilocal reviews were excellent, so I took my colleague with me. When we got there, it was pretty empty. The menu is really nice and I loved the food. I had a cheese enchilada which was excellent. The cheese was delicious and the red sauce was flavorful. Loved it. The taco I had was also good. Their re-fried black beans were really tasty. It must be an Alpharetta thing, but a lot of these places serve re-fried blank beans — I’m used to seeing re-friend pinto beans. Anyway, they were good. The service was also good. She waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu items and even Mexican food overall. I would definitely go back if I get a chance; looking forward to it being another great experience.

I usually trust Unilocal and based on reviews for Boga, I was really looking forward to going here. Wow, it was horrible on many fronts. First, my wife went to the restroom when we arrived and walked out saying there was NO soap in there. Not just running low… there was nothing in the tank. So, not only were the patrons hands probably dirty, so were the food preparers. Gross. I had the skirt steak tacos and it was just average; not worth $ 13 that’s for sure. My wife had the fish tacos and I could smell the stench. She forged ahead though and they were HORRIBLE. I should get some courage and complained in person but I’d rather post my feedback on Unilocal. I walked out feeling queasy and will never return. Next time I’ll go a to Scratch next door.

Moderately priced Mexican /Latin food with a variety of choices in clean and convenient location, Boga Taqueria is a welcome addition to dining in the Windward Parkway area. 1st star — Location, décor Boga is easy to find — just don’t go past Fry’s Electronics. Heading north on Highway 9, Boga is the last retail space in the shopping center on the left which also includes an Indian bakery and a Chinese /sushi joint. It’s right next to the exotic fish /reef retailer. Inside, you’ll find a contemporary but casual dining environment. There’s a bar up front, combination booth /table dining along the right wall, booths on the left against the kitchen wall, and tables down the middle of the dining space. Concrete floors make for a little louder than normal dining experience, but it’s made up for with a music track that’s better than most. You’ll hear the occasional ding from the pass bell when an order is ready. 2nd star — Pretty good service The wife and I sat down about 8:30pm on a Saturday night. The booths against the kitchen were cramped and a wee sticky(leather + Georgia humidity) for us(we were in shorts), so we moved to one of the main dining area tables. There were two other tables occupied, which seemed about right — a hot summer day after 8pm. Later in the evening, a large group of people would take over the entire wall of the combo booths /tables — a party reservation. Chips and salsa came to the table almost immediately after sitting down. It DID take a bit for a waitress to ask us for drink orders — about 5 minutes. When she did pick up the table, she was prompt and attentive. She also knew the menu pretty well — she ID’d all the photographs on the laminated menu and matched them up to the longer descriptions inside. 3rd and 4th stars — Decent food, reasonable prices We ordered drinks — Coke($ 2.50) for my wife and Blue Moon on tap($ 5) for me. After about 10 minutes of asking about the menu items, we ordered the following: 1. Posole verde soup($ 3 cup) 2. Steak quesadilla($ 10) 3. Skirt steak /potatoes tapas($ 10) 4. Chicharron taco($ 3) The soup was odd — it was hot(temperature) and definitely had a verde /green flavor to it. The chicken was good, but I wish it had more of the hominy(corn, in this case). The avocado was also good. A side of extra cilantro, chopped radishes and slaw(???) is included, but I didn’t see the point of adding it. My wife’s steak quesadilla was perhaps the least in terms of value out of all the entrees. She enjoyed it, but it was small — more a quesadilla burrito than a traditional flattened quesadilla. I think this cut into the size of the dish. She liked it regardless. I ordered the tapas skirt steak and potatoes after seeing it at another table. It was a meal unto itself. 5 – 6 large slices of potatoes — not very flavorful, but cooked properly nonetheless covered in a red /dark sauce and slices of skirt steak. The skirt steak was cooked properly and had a good flavor. I think there was some corn expected on this dish, but, like the soup, it was absent /not in a sufficient quantity. There were also alternating dabs of a green chili sauce that was much spicier than the rest of the dish — a nice extra flavor to mingle with those that were more prominent. The chicharron taco was a nice surprise and a mild disappointment. It was more of a rolled taco. It was served in two pieces in an X configuration with a mildly spicy mayo drizzled on top. It included radish /slaw(???), apple and pork fat. Except I don’t think it was pork fat — it tasted more like pork skin with little or no fat. Regardless, it was good, but chicharron as I’ve had it(Bone Garden Cantina) should be fattier and saltier when it’s good. I felt like I’d not gotten what I wanted, but it was tasty regardless, and at $ 3, it was a good value. Lost 5th star — reserved for a future review I’ll be going back to Boga. I hope they’re around for a while, as I think they have potential. I definitely want to try the rest of the menu. Other things that interested me included the carne asada and shrimp entrée($ 15) and the other 12 or so tacos($ 3 each, $ 4 for steak tacos). You should give them a try. Just don’t drive past Fry’s Electronics trying to find them.

Like the Man in Black said, «Love is a burning thing, And it makes a fiery ring, Bound by wild desire, I fell into a Ring Of Fire.» My fire forms a perfect circle around Boga Taqueria. This is the best no thrills Mexican I have had in the state of Georgia. Tucked away in a strip mall amongst the wilds of Alpharetta, this little gem doesn’t reveal itself until you walk inside. The stained concrete floor, glass tile bar and upbeat music creates a fun, modern and minimalist feel for lunch and I loved it. What I love about this place is instead of 8 trite combos to choose from and standard fare you get at most Mexican restaurants, there is a creativity and originality to the dishes with fresh ingredients you wouldn’t necessarily find at a traditional Mexican restaurant. Now they do have some standard dishes, playfully labeled«Gringos», but save that order for another restaurant. The service was prompt, courteous and accommodating. The menu lists tacos in orders of three, we ordered three different kinds each and they didn’t bat at an eye. We also ordered queso and was wondering what was taking so long for cheese dip. We grabbed a menu and took a closer look, we saw there was queso and cheese dip, to very different things. We flagged down the waiter and he explained they make the queso from scratch and it takes a little longer, we were in a rush, so we switched to the cheese dip which they brought right out(ask for jalapenos to spice it up) and it was delicious as well. We will come back for the queso, it sounds amazing, as did the rest of the menu. I had a shrimp taco, brisket taco and enjoyed a few bites of my girlfriends selections as well. Everything was great! To Recap: The Good: The service, the design of the place and the food. The Best Mexican I have, bar none. The Bad: Um… It was really hot outside the day we went? I don’t really have anything at this point. The Band This Restaurant Most Resembles: I might have given a subtle hint with Ring of Fire, Johnny Cash.

I waffle between 3 and 4 stars. Service is awesome and the menu diverse. I just haven’t had my socks knocked off by any of the food here as much as the other folks around me. It does seem healthier and made of fresher ingredients than most Mexican restaurants in Atlanta, so I give kudos for that.

Not that Unilocal = hype, but Boga lives up to all of the good ratings found here. Philip and I had dinner there Wednesday night and it was great. We couldn’t find fault with anything about the food and only had one small quibble with the service(and it’s a tiny quibble really). We were greeted and seated promptly, after being asked if we preferred table or booth. We chose a table by the window. Not a whole bunch to look at outside the floor to ceiling windows, but nice enough. The décor is unobtrusive, just a tad… well, I don’t want the word«shabby» but maybe more like«shoestring»? The tables are cool though, with spots of turquoise metallic paint against the brown tops. Don’t know why I liked that so much. :) Silverware is cheap stainless steel wrapped in a paper napkin but who cares?!? The margarita to start with was really good. They only have them on the rocks, but that’s the way I like them anyway. Not too much tequila, not too tart and certainly not too sweet. You know, a real mixed drink! Chips are light and served warm, they’re just chips but the salsa is JUST the way I like it, with plenty of fresh cilantro(we had to ask for a second serving, as others have observed the initial little cup you get is quite small). The menu isn’t huge but everything sounded so good, and the reviews here were all so favorable, I had a hard time deciding. After narrowing it down to two dishes — the famous El Macho and the Chuleta de Puerco — I asked for guidance. Our waiter said«El Macho, definitely» and wow — so glad he did. It is awesome! The pork really is slow-cooked, very lean, tasty, not sweet(why do so many places make pork taste sugary?), just perfect. FRESH corn kernels(white corn), nice sized bits of avocado, some greens and oh those grilled plantains. Etc etc etc — not TOO many ingredients that make you want to deconstruct it but just enough to make it savory and utterly yum. Oh my. No way I could finish it, even after(a little grudgingly at first) putting a good portion on Philip’s plate. SOGOOD! Philip had the Enchiladas Gringas and it was as he expected — standard stuff but very high quality. I tasted the ground beef and it was seasoned wonderfully, had a spice in it that was a nice note and much different than what you’d expect from a dish with«Gringas» in the name. For the less adventurous, this was a really good choice. He was so impressed he’s promised to try something a little more daring next time. We were in a bit of a hurry so after scarfing down our food we didn’t stay for dessert and coffee(and who would have room even for crepes with Nutella after all that food?) but we will return for that alone one day soon. That leads us to the only — and minor — quibble. There seemed to be only one waiter working the floor(it was a Wednesday after all) and it took a few moments for him to ask if we were ready for the check, and then to come back to pick it up but the bartender saw us waiting and settled up for us. Subtract maybe 1⁄5 of a star because that one poor guy was running off his feet serving the whole dining room. This is going on our short-list of «what do you want for dinner?» places. Oh, and one last thing — that bell. It’s not a microwave. It’s the kitchen summoning the waitstaff. I kept an eye out for just that.

I don’t remember what I got(El Macho?) But it had grilled plantains and pork. HEAVEN on a plate! I’m so grateful to the Unilocaler that posted a pic and description of that same plate. Bravo! I wish I could’ve eaten the entire thing but I got full halfway through :( Alas, I think it sat in the car too long. Maybe I can salvage the plantains. No? Is it worth the risk? Hmm… I’ll mull this over when my buzz wears off… I’ll definitely be going back to this place! The service was pretty good although I wish they would’ve asked me if I wanted another Diet Coke after the first halfway point.

Really good meal here last month. I agree with another Unilocaler that the salsa cup is a bit too small. But it was tasty. I had the El Macho. It was sooo good. Portion was large, but I was a big pig & finished it all. Very yummy & unlike anything I’ve had before. Hubby had the shrimp taco & a cheese quesadilla. He enjoyed his meal as well. To comment on what another reviewer said, I don’t believe it was the microwave you heard going off for the cheese dip. As far as I can tell they have a bell that they ring whenever an order is ready in the window. We were also sitting near the kitchen & I saw the bell on the way to the restrooms. I heard it ding multiple times throughout our meal. Boga is a little on the pricey side for us to re-visit with the kids. But I can definitely see a return trip in the future for a date night. Very good meal. Not sure I’ll want to try anything other than the El Macho, tho! :-P Server was attentive without being intrusive. The place was fairly empty when we arrived, but was filling up nicely by the time we left.

My favorite place in Alpharetta! Prices are extremely reasonable for high quality and fresh food. The fish tacos are«melt in your mouth» fresh and seasoned to perfection whether fried or grilled, a must have. I always order the tacos al pastor and I have to say they are the most authentic I’ve had in Atlanta. El Macho is their signature dish and wow is the best word to describe it. Try the chupe soup and the pickled carrots, very unusual and delicioso! The guacamole is amazing with chunks of avocado and paired with their, warm chips and home made salsa is a perfect start to an unforgettable meal! Buen Provecho!

Boga Taqueria is a trendy little Mexican place hidden amongst the endless number of chain restaurants littered across Windward Parkway. I’d probably describe their cuisine as either southwestern or modern Mexican — definitely not traditional. We were at first hesitant to give them a shot since the local favorite, Pure Taqueria, was a short 10 minute drive down the street. A few months after they opened, we finally ended up being swayed by a 50% offer on ScoutMob to try them out. We were glad we did; Boga turned out to be a decent little joint and my fiancé and I are all for supporting small local businesses. On a Friday evening, Boga was pretty busy and extremely loud. It’s surely a lively place if you’re in to that. At first impression, Boga looks trendy and modern. However, after sitting at the bar while waiting for a table, we noticed that layout was a bit off. The restaurant seating did not really flow right. We had to wait 15 minutes for a table yet if the restaurant was set up better, there’d be easily enough room for 4 or more tables with still plenty of space to spare. Along with the awkward setup, the décor was desperately trying to be cool and trendy but frankly, from a design standpoint, the place looked kind of tacky. They definitely need to work on this. We decided to start are meal with some drinks. Taquerias are known to have good Margaritas, right? Well they didn’t have them yet. We were told that they’re still getting machines or training. This was a disappointment since the place has been open for over 3 months and mixed drinks really go well with the cuisine. They had some pretty good beers on tap but it doesn’t suffice when you’re craving Tequila. From the menu, we were initially drawn towards the tacos, specifically the fish tacos. «Taqueria» is defined as a Mexican restaurant specializing in tacos so it was a no brainer. I was disappointed to discover that their fish tacos used Tilapia. I don’t want to go into a long rant on fish quality, but generally, Tilapia is regarded as a farm raised«trash» or «garbage» fish in the culinary community. It’s called this because the fish’s normal diet consists of eating 6 times its weight in other animal’s poop(Google for more info). It has no flavor and inherits its taste from whatever it’s seasoned or served with. Quite simply, there’s literally no such thing as fresh or seasonal tilapia and any restaurant that promotes fresh food and serves Tilapia is questionable. Boga please use a different fish! So obviously we didn’t get the tacos. My fiancé ended up ordering the steak quesadilla and I opted for the skirt steak with shrimp. To our delight, both dishes were delicious. My steak was perfect medium rare served with well cooked rice and sides. The Shrimp was likely frozen based on its appearance but they prepared it decently and it had a tasty cream sauce. My fiancé loved the steak quesadilla commenting that she was impressed on how generous they were with the steak — she actually had enough to take home for a snack. Generally, in proportion with the cost(with the help of ScoutMob) — I’d have to say that the food’s pretty good. Service was a little spotty. There were a few large groups dining that evening and the wait staff seemed much more focused on accommodating them as a priority. Drinks were filled on time but it took a while to get our main dishes or refills on chips/dip. I’ll excuse some of my complaints for growing pains but can’t fairly give them a glowing rating based on our experience. We had a pretty good meal with all things considered and admittedly, I’d say we got our money’s worth. However, If not for the ScoutMob discount, we probably would have left a little disappointed. Overall, The food’s decent and the location is extremely convenient for my family so I’d still recommend giving them a try if you’re in the area.
