What a horrible waste that Mt. Everest is now closed. Depression sits in everytime I pass the store front, and especially now that a boring Americanized Asian restaurant with food represented by a dozen other local restaurants(as in blocks within each other) has moved in. Mt. Everest, you will be, and are very much already, missed.

The place. My friends brought me to this place and I absolutely loved! It is small and very cosy, perfect for getting together with friends. The food. Dumpling appetizers were very good. I also ordered goat meet with pumpkin pure and wasn’t disappointed! Absolutely delicious, with the right amount of spice and sweetness. Mango Lassie was great as well as basket of breads. Definitely check out this place when you are in the mood for some Nepalese food!

The only thing I can agree with on the other Unilocal reviews is that this place was empty when we went for dinner. Granted, it was«early» dinner hour(around 6pm) but even as we were leaving around 7pm it was empty. Given that, it’s very strange that the food was slow to come out and the service was unfriendly. Whoever the owner is that everyone raves about, he was definitely not around last night. The food was standard quality. We ordered the momos for appetizers – again, underwhelming and not what the other Unilocal reviews promised. For dinner we ordered the goat curry and lamb with tomato base sauce. Both were good but not memorable. The one thing that I do remember as being really good was the Mt Everest bread basket side order of the different breads – one of the varieties(a fluffy rich one) was delicious. I would have given this place 3 stars for the food but the service vexes me so two stars is all I’m willing to give.

I was introduced to this place by my boyfriend and was in love with the first bite of my appetizer! It usually very quiet and our waiter was very friendly and casual. There are meat options and vegan options and EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious. I’m overjoyed that this place is right next to my apartment and I plan on being a regular! Another thing, my boyfriend hates food with too much spice, he doesn’t like curries or anything of that nature and he enjoys Mt Everest. I, on the other hand, love foods with that are spicy and flavorful and I was able to enjoy the foods as well. Their menu is a great middle ground for those both adventurous and conservative with their food choices. Also, they have lunch specials! Woot.

I love hole-in-the-wall places like this one! So I’ve pretty much complained since I got here to Boston that there’s no such thing as good ethnic food… but I’ve finally found one! I came here last night with my cousin who reminded me that it was Friday, and it’s Lent, an we can’t eat meat. :-/Luckily, this place had a vegan entrees for us! We went in and it wasn’t crowded, maybe 2 tables of people(it was also pretty cold last night). I wasn’t too familiar with«Nepalese» food, but the waiter/host gave us really good recommendations of what we could eat that had no meat, what was spicy/not too spicy(my cousin isn’t a huge fan of too much spice). If you like Indian food, or maybe even Middle Eastern food, there are a lot of similarities to those with this Nepalese food. For appetizers, we split the veggie-stuffed Mo Mo(dumplings), which had two dipping sauces… one was more spicy and the other was sesame-based. Both were really good. Then for dinner, we had the vegetable set meal that came with Rice /Dal /Saag /Achar/Roti(yes, I just copied and pasted it from the menu) and I don’t know what each of those meant. But there was some green veggies, some potatoes and cauliflower in a curry-type sauce, and this other mix of potatoes and spices that were really good. It also came with some naan, I believe. I ordered aloo bodi tama which was: potato, black-eyed beans and bamboo shoots tempered in light curry sauce, herbs and spices(also copied and pasted). It was really good! Tangier than I expected, but still delicious. We had some mango lassi yogurt drink as well. The prices were really reasonable, and of course, all my cousin and I could think about was how good the dishes with actually MEAT probably taste! I know I’ll definitely come back here: the food was great, the service was great, and the price was so affordable. It wasn’t a fancy-pants place(think: a clean hole-in-the-wall), but definitely a nice-casual place to go out and eat!

They are so friendly here! Love it. The mo mos(nepalese dumplings) are pretty tasty and the lentil soup is great on a cold day. I ordered a bamboo shoot soup(it was ok) and a curry(ok too). It’s just a cute and affordable, casual bite to eat. Try it out.

Stopped by on a blustery Saturday afternoon, and the place happened to be empty. As I was dining alone, I appreciated the attentive service and the brief education I received on Nepalese food. Can’t say if it would be as good if the place was packed, but I felt taken care of. Ordered the combo they offer on the weekend with vegetable curry($ 8.95 with delicious chai tea). Soup was delicious, as was most everything else, including the refreshing potato salad I used to finish the meal. Worried I wasn’t going to be full enough, but actually found myself satiated in terms of both quantity and flavor. Yet…still saved some room for a carrot desert ;) If you like Indian, it’s worth trying this place for a change of pace. Could be a date spot, but probably not a first date…

Considering how adorable and affordable this place is, I’m surprised it doesn’t do much better business. My boyfriend and I went for the $ 5 weekday lunch, and were impressed. The waiter /chef was extremely enthusiastic about the food he was cooking, and he discussed it with us after we asked about it. If you’re curious about Nepalese cuisine, it is quite similar to Indian food, but some of the techniques are different, it does not use quite as many hot peppers, and it uses some spices(pretty sure we tasted star anise) not found in Indian cooking. It was a snowy day, and he brought out a heater just for us. Needless to say, the service is fantastic. He prepared tea with milk for us, and you could taste how much care he took in doing it properly; it was just the thing for a cold snowy day. So far, we’ve tried a lunch curry special with chicken(name eludes me), the Mo Mo dumplings(come with two delicious sauces, one coriander-based, the other tomato — szechuan peppercorn [weird, I know, but tasty]), and a soup. Edit: Have subsequently been back for dinner, and have now tried a few more dishes… I would say that this is primarily a lunch place, the expanded menu was interesting, but not nearly as affordable. The buttered roti, however, when slathered in sauce, however, is absolutely divine, and I couldn’t resist ordering more Mo Mo. The food on the whole is just plain interesting. Hasn’t quite earned its fifth star, but I certainly haven’t ruled out the possibility… To sum up, however, adorable and affordable!

I have passed this place hundreds of times and have been intrigued by it’s name, as to what it its. I have never tried Nepalese food, so I went for lunch with my sister.(she recently traveled to Dharmsala, similar food and Nepal) During lunch there are an assortment of items that are $ 5. We ordered 3 items, MOMO 6pcs. Steamed Nepali style ground vegetable or pork stuffed dumplings
KUKHURAKOMASU* Boneless chicken cooked with garlic, ginger, onion and Himalayan spices(served with Rice and Lentil) TARKARIRABHAT Seasonal vegetables cooked with Nepali spice and Himalayan herbs, ginger and garlic.(Served with rice and Lentil) The food taste excellent to me, my favorite aspect was the lentil stew that accompanied the rice. The chicken and vegetables had a light curry to them, not too spicy. According to my sister the food taste authentic, her favorite was the vegetable Mo Mo. The portions were also reasonable for their price. The environment of Mt. Everest is eclectic but warm. It has many photos and cultural statues combined into one. The Space is small but perfect if you are a smaller group. We were served by a nice man who also happened to be the chef. I was impressed he was able to cook and serve in a timely fashion. Though we were the only two in the restaurant, if there were more I could not see the service being efficient. The positive to this was that it felt authentic, like we were in someone’s home. I would go back based on the value, and taste of the food.

We were 1 of 2 tables there on a Fri night… strange The restaurant is clean, warm, and simply decorated with pics of Mt. Everest that made for interesting diner conversation. Our server was very helpful and friendly. We started with the Sabjee Mo Mo– light & tasty – I enjoyed the pepper sauce on the side. We shared 3 dishes: Bheda Masala: Boneless lamb in Himalayan spiced creamy sauce – Delicious…made me want to lick the bowl. Khasi Ra Chana: Goat meat with chick peas in Nepali style curry sauce– the meat & curry were good but the chickpeas were undercooked. Pharsi: Pumpkin sautéed with spices and coriander– Very tasty and light. The garlic nan & mango lassi were both very yummy. The portions are generous, prices are great, food was delicious, and service was very good. Really makes me wonder why the place was empty on a Fri night… it’s too bad. I will definitely be back & bring more people next time.

I went with a friend on one of Boston’s hottest evenings, and unfortunately the restaurant’s air conditiioning was broken, but we happily sat by the window; I will be returning for another dinner, but might just wait until it cools down a bit. While the décor of the place is lacking, the food is excellent. My friend and I ordered both pork and vegetable dumplings(with a hearty 10 dumplings per dish), and both were delicious, though I’d say the vegetable option won hands down, very flavorful. We each ordered some version of curry; mine was the goat with pumpkin, which was excellent, though perhaps a little bone-filled(I apparently ate all of the meat for dinner and had only goat bones as my leftovers for lunch the next day). The only real criticism to offer is that the waitress, though obviously very sweet and wanting to help, doesn’t seem to speak a word of English, so getting information(I was curious about ingredients because the flavors were so good) and guidance(I wanted to know what was perhaps a house specialty) was basically impossible. We stumbled through the ordering regardless, however, and had a delicious meal either way. Definitely go.

Let me preface this review by saying, I don’t know a thing about authentic Nepalese food so this is solely based on my taste buds. My boyfriend and I have passed by this restaurant several times walking down the street, hesitated to go in, and went for the safe and familiar instead, Thai Place. This past Sunday, we were both hungry for a late lunch and finally decided to give Mt. Everest a chance(ha!). Much like Racquel M.‘s experience, we both were so pleasantly surprised when the waiter came back out to ask if we were vegans/vegetarians after taking our orders. That’s the first time anyone has ever bothered to check with us first, without blaming us for not specifying ahead of time. I’m into this place already! Why the 5 stars, you ask? 1. The pumpkin dish is beyond. It’s flavorful, cooked to just the right amount of softness and sweetness, and goes really well with the garlic naan. The tofu dish is equally delicious and flavorful. All entrees come with a soup(we had lentil) and rice too! 2. We were given a starter consisting of a curried potato/onion dish and a crispy rice with cumin, on the house. 3. The vegetarian dumplings come in ten and are so good. I wanted ten more. 3. The menu has a whole section of vegan options. The service demonstrates that they care about their customer’s dietary preferences/restrictions/needs and embrace rather than shun it. 4. I felt good after eating, not greasy or on the verge of puking. 5. To my surprise, Nepalese food bursts with flavor using sauces and spices that are part similar, part foreign, part incredible. 6. Cheap prices! I think I like this better than Indian food… gasp!

Came here with my sister for $ 5 lunch specials — got the chicken curry and vegetable curry. Both came with rice and lentil soup(unsalted, a little tasteless but maybe it’s supposed to be palatte-cleansing). Both were really great, but the same sauces and a bit spicy. We picked this over the buffet because when we went, there were only 3 dishes and it didn’t seem worth it. The 3 stars are for the food since I try not to let bad service affect my star rating in case it was a fluke. But I have to say that the service was really, really bad. The girl was new so we were really nice about it but she dropped my napkin on the ground and said she’d get me another, but never did. After bringing our food, we asked for soup spoons and once again she said«OK» but never brought them so I had to go to the cash register and ask her again. My spoon was really dirty but I just sucked it up at that point. She was inexperienced and she’ll get better over time… No air conditioning on the humid day made everything a bit sticky and unpleasant as well. However, there was torrential rain outside and they let us sit there for as long as we want and watch the World Cup, and even asked if we had a boat when we decided to brave the flooded water outside. A nice place but I will get take-out next time. The food is nice and adventurous so I would recommend trying it!

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this gem while at college in the area. We were looking for something different in the area and came to Unilocal. We found this place and thought we would give it a try. And boy i’m glad we did! It truly is a hidden gem. Food: We have been there several times and have tried many things and all have been delicious. I am a vegetarian and there is ample choice for me on the menu. First thing they give you is a cold potato saladesque«appetizer» with salted puffed rice, which is great. We will usually get veggie mo mos, a couple vegetable entrees, and some rooti bread. My boyfriend particularly loves the pumpkin entrée, but really, we have loved everything we have tried. Also, be sure to get the chilled mango yogurt drink(think mango lassi)… its delicious! Service: The majority of our visits, we have had the owner either as our waiter, or he at least checks on the table often to ensure we are enjoying our meal. The rest of the waitresses are fine, nothing to complain about. But the owner there is just the sweetest man. Anyways, you should try this one! I have never been to Nepal, so I can’t speak to the authenticity of it, but from speaking with the owner I can venture to say it is pretty authentic(that and when I am there there are usually a handful of Nepali people).

We went here over the weekend and left fat and happy. Being an adventerous group, the four of us tried dumplings(momo I think), lamb, chicken and goat. Everything had great flavor, and the lab dish we ordered as spicy was not too hot. We all loved the lentil soup that came with dinner and ordered the Mt. Everest breads which were great to sop up all of the sauces. My only gripe was that the goat was very tough. We had a great time and cannot wait to go back.

i am enjoying my tasty leftovers as i type this. the only reason i opted for 4 stars instead of 5 is because i have only eaten there once — seems a little ridiculous to give 5 stars to anywhere unfamiliar. that said — we were immediately greeted upon entering by a smiling, friendly face. allowed us to choose our own table — very cool. pored over the menu for a few minutes — the bf and i are both vegetarian and YES, this place has a wide variety of options for you fellow veggies out there! — saw that the offerings are somewhat similar to — but NOT the same as — what you might find at a typical indian restaurant. lots of potato, beans, curry, veggies. flatbreads. rice. meat items on the menu included lamb and chicken, and i’m sure there were other things too, i just don’t remember. after we ordered — we decided on a dish with potato, bamboo and black-eye beans, and some fried vegetable dumplings to start — the server returned with a cold veggie curry, VERYTASTY! and complimentary. also brought over some puffed rice and two different spicy chutneys, both of which were very flavorful and VERY different from each other! we were also given a super-delicious clear lentil soup, which i think i actually like better than miso. this was also all complimentary, which is a really nice touch. the dumplings were pretty standard, which is all i ask of a dumpling anyway. the entrée was good. not ZOMGamazing, but good. however, i say this knowing that i have no basis for comparison — and that i don’t often eat bamboo with black-eye beans in a yellow curry, so maybe it’s just that it’s not my personal favorite… still tasty though! the flavors are certainly more subtle than most indian fare i’ve had. the«Mt. Everest Bread Basket» is a LOT of bread, btw! but i’m grateful to have some leftover roti today, that’s for sure :) all in all, this was a 100% enjoyable dining experience — and i am definitely looking forward to eating here again! there are so many things on the menu i would like to try. plus, the prices can’t be beat. two people, sharing one entrée and one app, plus all the yummy complimentary stuff to start = $ 23 + tip. awesome.

I am not going to lie, the prospect of leftovers for lunch is keeping me going today. Went to Mt. Everest Kitchen last night with moderate expectations. Sure, the menu looked appealing but the bright, fast food-esque sign was a bit of a reality check. This place IS located on Brighton Ave. in Allston. Anyways, at around 6:15 my boyfriend and I were the only ones in the place. Not always a good sign. The waitress was super cheerful as we picked a table. She filled our waters and left us with menus. After poring over the dishes, we opted for: vegetable stuffed dumplings(Kothe Mo Mo); chicken and mushroom curry(Kukhura Ko Masu Ra Chiaow) and fried chicken wings(Kukhura Ko Pakheta). She appeared a few minutes later with a dish of vegetables covered in a spicy paste; spicy and mild tomato sauces, and puffed rice. The vegetables were delicious and we scarfed those down. She cleared our plates and brought us two cups of soup. It was a very delicate flavor, very tasty. Then came the dumplings. I doused mine in the spicy tomato sauce. These were delicious. I would eat those weekly.(And may start doing so.) At this point, I wish we had ordered only one main dish to split. That feeling didn’t last as long as I bit into my chicken wings. OMG were those good. And plentiful. Ten wings on a bed of vegetables and lettuce. The roti was very tasty. Most importantly, my boyfriend finally conceded that curry is delicious and not something«enjoyed only by hippies». Ha! So all this food, plus tea and lemonade AND making my boyfriend literally eat his words for 32 bucks?!? I will definitely be back!

Having lived in Nepal for two years, my standards for Nepali food are high. The dining experience at Mt. Everest Kitchen exceeded expectations – in fact, the menu has more extensive and interesting offerings than you would find in Nepal(such as tofu, for example). The momos are delicious and the daal bhaat fixed dinners are an excellent value. The dining area itself is intimate and authentically decorated. The owner, Amrit, like so many Nepalese, was genuine, friendly, and easy to talk to. I definitely plan on returning.

What a great find! This place is a great bargain. For $ 14.95, I ordered one of their set meals. I got my choice of appetizer and a big silver tray with curry, rice, some sort of spinach salad, achar(spicy veggies) and a creamy sort of soup. The food was amazing! There were so many different flavors and spices. The tea served with the meal was delicious, and I am not a tea person at all. The service was friendly, and I loved the vegetable curry with potato and bamboo shoots. I definitely want to come back again and try the curry with the tofu. The vegetable momo appetizer was my favorite. The texture was perfect, and they were even more delicious with the spicy condiment on them. The food here is fresh and full of flavor.
