O’Brien’s Moving & Storage

This company is ridiculous, farm work out to subcontractors that broke an antique table and have yet to make good on the claim after months.
Last message from them was from Jeneanne Gombert on October 19^th telling us she’d be working on our claim next week. That never happened.
Very disappointing.
After months of waiting we are filing suit to get them to be responsible for the damage.
Received this rude reply from Jeneanne Gombert today after inquiring why they haven’t processed the claim after nearly 6 months. «Actually it is simply because I had not gotten to your claim. You did not have valuation or insurance. Therefore you claim has now been assessed at 60 cents per pound at 40 lbs. your claim amount will be $ 24.00. You will receive a release in the mail which needs to be signed and dated and returned before funds are disbursed.»

I could not recommend this company any less. If there were a zero star option I’d have elected that.
In August of 2015 we received an estimate from Obrien’s to move from Allentown to Bethlehem, PA. The sales person, Carmen Giovenco, was very polite and efficient during our estimate meeting. In speaking with Carmen we let him know the closing of our sale was at 10am and the walkthrough was at 9:30 so we needed everything out by this time. He advised it should take about 2 and a half hours to empty our home. Carmen said he’d have movers at our home as close to 7am as possible and there was a chance some items would still be in the home during our walkthrough (totally acceptable). We cleared with the buyer that this wouldn’t be an issue and proceeded with scheduling the close.
The morning of our move 7 AM came around, no movers (again, totally acceptable things happen), 730 no movers…8am no movers. By this point we’re extremely displeased I called and left several frantic calls for Carmen and the moving scheduler. My wife also called and left several messages. We had a buyer coming to our home for a walkthrough in an hour and a half with no movers in sight. Around 8:20 AM a team of 3 movers showed up, we advised they were to be here at 7 only to be told «We don’t do that» «There is no reason Carmen should have told you we could do that. The sales people always make these types of promises» (anything to close the sale I suppose). To this day Carmen, nor the moving scheduler have EVER called us back.
The 3 movers did their best to get the house cleared (with the help of myself and my wife). The buyer showed up and fortunately was very understanding, the house was still half full. The gentlemen that showed up were polite and did their absolute best to get us cleared, which we appreciate.
With the house eventually cleared and closing finalized we proceeded to our new home. The movers got the truck unloaded in a few hours. After completion and looking through our furniture almost every single wood item had scratches in it. A few days later we were putting together our bed frame for our spare bedroom only to realize all the braces were just missing. I called O’briens and asked to speak with the location manager. I was transferred to Aurora A. She was very pleasant while I expressed my dissatisfaction with the lack of accountability/​call backs in regards to the movers not being there on time and the missing/​damaged items. She stated she would personally check the truck to see if our bed braces were there and give me a call back that afternoon, no call back. Days went buy with no response. I called and emailed Aurora again the next week asking about the status, no response. The following week I emailed again and finally received a response from someone named, Jeneanne Gombert. Jeneanne is the claims processor and she provided us a claim form (I suppose sending me a claim form and not confirming my items were missing is O’Brien’s way of avoiding the issue). Why would I fill out a claim form if I wasn’t advised if my missing items were in the truck yet? I asked Jeneanne to advise on my missing items and asked if she could check with Aurora (who was out of office). Several unanswered emails and 3 weeks later I finally received a response from Jeneanne stating she «understands my frustration and to be patient as there are claims ahead of me». How does she not know if I have a claim or not, she is the «Claims Processor»
I emailed Aurora directly in regards to our missing items as she was the one who would check on them. She again referred me back to Jeneanne (lots of finger pointing at O’Brien’s). I advised Aurora I was only checking in with her because she said she was the one who would verify my missing items (we’re now a month after the move). I emailed her on November 5^th back asking for her managers info so I could connect and received no response. On November 10^th I emailed again asking for her managers information and was finally responded to with an email address for Kevin G. and Aurora asking me if I completed a claim… all I want is an update on my missing items so I know whether to put them on the claim form or not! I again explained this to Aurora and advised I’m positive the items are gone because were now 6 weeks post move and finally received a response an hour later with «Both the dispatcher and Jeanenne did not find any items in the warehouse» shocker…
I absolutely cannot believe the amount of emails I had to send only to receive no help whatsoever.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS

O’Brien’s moved our four-​bedroom 350 miles from Reading to Boston. Overall, we were quite pleased. The loaders showed considerable care in dealing with delicate items and took their time to wrap thoroughly. Loading time was nearly 10 hours, but it wasn’t for lack of effort on the movers’ part. Unloading took 11 hours.
We had two casualties during the move. One was a china cabinet, which suffered shattered glass during the trip. The foreman who was unloading us said it was badly packed. That’s what prevents this from being a five-​star review. A cheap bookcase was also damaged beyond repair, but that was no big deal.
Price was surprisingly affordable. In fact, O’Brien’s/Allied’s bid was less than half of Gentle Giant’s.

Most disappointing company I have ever felt with. Took my money days ahead. Did not show up on the day of my move, claiming I was not on the schedule. After calling many times they sent men over to pack me up only for me to find out they were storing it and will crate it to my new place one month later. Even though I was moving out of state (which they swore they can handle) they promised one week. Well that did not happen. Lies lies lies … Gave me a name of movers in my new state who would receive it. When I called them they had no idea who I was. No clue. I had to call around to find my stuff !!! Plus I have missing things. Do NOT use this moving company!!! 1 star is too much

I tried to use o’brien’s for my upcoming move. In addition to get no returned calls for 4 days– the people I spoke to completely contradicted each other and wasted my time. I’m moving a 1br from Allentown to Richmond VA and they told me this was too small of a job for them– after the first woman told me that it was something they could do. The man claimed it’s a $ 2000 minimum which is absurd– a friend of mine moved philly to Orlando with full-​service packing and moving– and car transportation– and it only cost $ 2000– so I can’t imagine what they people are charging to get $ 2000 for a 1br!

Be careful — if you call Allied Van Lines in this area, you get referred to this provider. I was trying to arrange to move the contents of a 1 bedroom apartment (that doesn’t have much furniture) 5 miles to a house by the end of the month when my lease is up. I called the Allied 1 – 800 number and that clerk was nice and helpful but when she transferred my call to this local provider, O’Brien’s, the person who came on the line didn’t seem very interested in helping me and in fact sighed a lot and mumbled and acted like my call was interrupting her day. Apparently they were all booked up for the month except for one slot, and then because I was out of town and could not quickly meet with someone who she needed to send over in person to inspect my possessions to provide a quote (this is their standard practice which is weird because many other moving companies will quote you just based on you giving them a list of what you need them to move — without having to come look at the stuff in person), she informed me that because the slot would be gone by the time she could get a guy over to look at my stuff, they wouldn’t be able to help me.
Having now looked at all these other negative reviews I’m thinking maybe that’s for the best. My impression is that these guys are still managing to get so much work that they don’t need to pay much attention to customer service. Buyer beware because when you call a «big name» like Allied you think you are going to get the good quality service… apparently not.

O’Briens moving great for us. Recently used O’Briens for our move from Allentown, PA to Montclair, NJ. Great company, very helpful. The day of our move, movers were on time, friendly, quick, neat, and careful with our belongings. Truck arrived quickly at our new home, and all our belongings arrived in the same condition they left in. Happy with the overall experience we had. I would use O’Briens moving again in the future.

The mover did not adequately protect furniture that it wrapped and placed in storage back in October 2012. We moved into temporary housing– so O’Brien’s only wrapped and stored a handful of valuable furniture. Most of the stuff stored was boxed and packed by us. I have moved TEN times since 1996. And stored furnishings on two other occasions. Unless the account rep changes my mind, based upon my experience with other movers, I would not recommend O’Brien’s.

I would not recommend O’Brien’s. They save money by cutting corners. Their movers beat up our furniture, did not pack it well, and did not stand behind their work. Spend a little bit more and get a bunch more value with other reputable moving companies. O’Brien’s is low cost, low value, low customer service, and high damage to your furniture!

We used O’Brien’s to move our entire house into a storage unit, not their storage unit, and then six months later they moved our stuff out of the storage unit into our new home. The same three guys moved us each time. They were nice and pleasant. They were quick too. A few pieces of our furniture had a few nicks in it we noticed after the move, but we expected that with any mover.
We packed all our stuff ourselves so nothing was missing that way.
Overall happy with the experience and would use them again.

Not a very pleasant experience at all. The move out went fine, but then it all went bad. The truck caught fire en route to delivery and everything had to be off loaded, and then reloaded on a rental truck. Arrived very late to deliver and did a good deal of damage to the furnishings and even the wall in the house. Then it really went bad. Was passed off to Allied’s 800 number to file a claim and Allied did NOTHING as promised. I asked to have the damage fixed, and they sent out a furniture refinisher to appraise but then nothing happened. They claimed they sent a check I never received. And then I had the great displeasure of an incredibly rude phone clerk. One month on and nothing has been fixed.
Never again with either Allied or O’Briens.

If I could award a negative number of stars, I would. This company cost of thousands of dollars in damage through their negligence (smashed china, ripped upholstery, other furniture scratched and dented), and hundreds more through items that simply disappeared. Avoid them at all cost.

We had to file a police report when our 32″ RCA flat screen TV and another carton went «missing» in O’Brien’s warehouse between July 22 and August 3. The warehouse staff tells us that they don’t know what happened– RIGHT! The TV was STOLEN.
I wouldn’t use this company! They are NOT to be trusted!
Police are investigating.

BEWARE! THIS MOVING COMPANY HIRES PACKERS THAT STEAL YOUR ITEMS!
My wife and I recently moved and we used this company. The packers came in, packed without labeling half the boxes, and left.
By the time we unpacked all of our boxes, we found that 3 bottles of cologne and one expensive watch (which was tucked away in a small storage unit) was missing.
I just called the offices and the claims guy did little to nothing to help me out.
I wouldn’t recommend this service to my WORST enemy!
