if I could give this place 6 stars, I would! I was driving on the NJTP and needed something to eat that wasn’t rest stop food and this place had great reviews. we stopped in and are so glad we did! we had the eggplant appetizer and it was super delicious and fresh! and then we had the regular tomato pie, and again very delicious and fresh! the crust is thin, so warning, you can eat a whole pie yourself! a must go if you’re in the area. I will be stopping again on my next NJTP adventure.

Second time there this past Saturday — just not very good… the sauce for the pasta was very watered down, the shrimp were obviously frozen and over cooked, and the ribs — well they were better there last time… disappointing night

Well prepared food, a lot better than much of the fast food around us. A lot of people living around Allentown probably don’t even know it’s there, no flashy signs etc The interior is plain, but if it’s good food you want, try it — you will be back.

Grated the restaurant is in the historical part of Allentown, but the parking is hard to find even with signs. The back entrance is a steep ramp and it’s like you’re going into a warehouse until you open the door. The place is old and has lots of character, but right outside the bathrooms is a(real) stuffed female lion. The lion has no rhyme or reason to the restaurant. I think it’s in poor taste, but maybe 20 years ago the lion would’ve been fine, Times change. As for the food it’s sub-par and the drinks are ridiculously priced, $ 11.00 for a Bacardi and Coke. We were just at Salt Creek Grille and the same drink was only $ 10.00 and SCG is known for their high prices and upscale atmosphere. I’ll never go back. Bye Felicia!

This place is one of the backbones of Allentown, NJ. Good food that takes a little longer than most places you may go. Have time to spare when go eat here. Great little bar where you can find many locals. Eat on the porch when the weather is warm.

Restaurant that has been here for quite a while. Food was good. Our party of 4 had 2 veal Marsalas that were very good. Crabcakes were excellent. The shrimp scampi wasn’t that good only because the shrimp were over cooked.

Holy good God! Best ribs I have ever had. The steaks are beyond belief! The owner and the staff make this place feel like you are in your grandmother’s dining room. The food is way beyond your average pub food. I have been here several times and each time my taste buds come alive. Try the eggplant appetizer, it is amazing and I don’t like eggplant.

Went for dinner on a Saturday. Walked inside and saw the bar, with no one in it and no bartender. A few tables, maybe 6 with plenty of empty tables were there. Finally, someone came out and greeted us and we sat. After waiting several minutes and having dispatched the bug on the table, someone came up to us and said that they’re running behind and it’s going to be awhile. We left. Never even saw a menu.

Delicious, home-style food prepared with love and care. Overall fantastic experience and the live music in the bar is always a treat.

Right in the middle of old historic Allentown New Jersey. a town older than our country! Restaurant is good, service very good. Great atmosphere.

Di Mattia’s offers the best steak that you will ever eat. Tasty and juicy. Excellent. Nick is the owner and he also makes his own pizza which is delicious. I highly recommend Di Mattia’s. Service can be slow because they cook your food to order. The Veal parm is over the top.

If you want great food and don’t mind the wait(all food is made to order by Nick the owner who is in his 70’s and a throw-back to when food was the most important part of a meal), go to DiMattia’s — get there early and enjoy. A bunch of our neighbors want Nick to do a «Throw Down» with Bobby Flay with his pork ribs. Wednesday is Rib Night — call ahead and reserve a rack because he makes a limited # of racks and they go fast. Fall off the bone and awesome flavor. Dee, the most incredible server, is not the fastest but she is the best! Try the Steak DiMattia. The long hot peppers won’t burn your lips but will give them a tingle. The braised potatoes are to die for! A lot of love is put in Nick’s cooking. Sorry to see a bad review on Unilocal. No one is perfect and sometimes when it’s a large crowd/party, one doesn’t get what they want in any restaurant.

Dimattias is straight out of an old mob movie. It is a local favorite, all items made to order by the owner. You may wait for a little while for your food bc of that, but it’s worth the wait. It’s basically the only lounge left in the area. The community is sometimes geared toward old timers who have been coming here for years… If you want to avoid that, and the wait, you cando a take out order. The bar pies/tomato pies are amazing. Sad to see the only review of this place was a negative one other than mine! But this place is honestly awesome. Def worth a stop and a million times better than la piazza, the other«italian» restaurant in town.

I went here for a surprise birthday party so I didn’t get to order off the proper menu, but the items that I had were subpar at best. The salad was under dressed with only a hint of the fact there was some sort of oil & vinegar dressing on it. I had the veal parm which was soggy and mostly bland at best. There was not much in the way of draft beer with only four selections with Yuengling being the best choice. The saving grace of the place was the décor which keeps this from being one star. The first thing you see when you walk in is a full sized stuffed lion sitting in the hallway for what looks like no apparent reason. It is weird, but props for having such a crazy piece. The bar area itself is small, but cozy and it old but in a good rustic kind of way.
