My husband and I decided to live here after we got married, as we are attending school at GVSU. I must say, that the rent is probably the best that you are going to get in the area and it comes with free internet, which is nice. BUT, This place makes me furious for several reasons. The first reason is that THEYDONOTSALTTHEIRWALKS. I fell at least 7 times on the sidewalks this winter because it snowed on a saturday and no one got around to even attempting to salt it until monday or tuesday. Also, as far as winter maintenance goes, they either don’t plow the parking lot at all, or they block you in with snow because they waited too long while it got really bad. There was a time this winter where I(as well as other tenets) were getting stuck near everyday because of the thick sheet of ice under the snow from lack of care to their parking lot. I ended up going to the store and buying salt to salt around my car so I had a fighting chance of getting out the next day. Second, they make you pay a 300 dollar a person activity fee. Now to me, that is ridiculous. They have a gym, a pool and a tanning booth. I don’t tan, and the pool is only open a few months out of the year. However I do try to use the gym, but the treadmills are crap. They skip when you run on them(which I personally would deem pretty dangerous) and the ellipticals are full a lot of the time. So between my husband and I, we were forced to pay a 600 dollar fee on top of our security deposit for something that much of the time we are way too busy to even use which I could have gotten at a gym with much higher quality. On to the next thing that upsets me about this place, there is a patio door that goes outside onto a small patio. HORRIBLYINSULATED. Before we put one of those saran wrap covers over our window, you could literally feel a breeze while you were sleeping. Then the even more pathetic part about it is that you could still feel a breeze coming though after we put that thing on. My husband ended up putting a whole bunch of blankets in underneath the insulator until it was finally somewhat bearable to live in. This is not to mention that the heater within my unit is about four years older than I am(so I cannot imagine that the heater is very energy efficient, which showed up in our heating bills). My mail also gets crushed into my mail box. My tax return and several wedding invitations I received actually got ripped because they shoved ads into my mailbox(I realize this is the mailman’s deal, but it made me even angrier at the complex because they should accommodate to larger amounts of mail than this. Also I would like to mention that I do get my mail every day. On the mailboxes in the row below mine they are also coming off of the mailbox, so if someone pulled really hard they could take the mail. I would also like to mention the aspect about lack of privacy. The walls are paper thin. I could hear other people peeing while I was in the bathroom and people’s normal volumed conversations if they were close enough to the wall. The people above us would simply walk across the floor and it would sound like the place was coming down. We could hear their conversations too. Now all of the above does not make for an ideal place to live, however what prompted me to even write this review and what sent me over the edge was how they decided to do demolition in the bathrooms on the floor above us without so much as a warning. At 8AM on the dot none the less! Not only were they doing the demolition, but they had the audacity to put a tarp out in front of OUR patio door and throw toilet parts and pieces of tile off of the balcony above us, thus going into our patio. Then I went to the office to complain and NOONEWASEVENTHEREYET! So I went back an hour later when there was actually someone there and they told me that I should have been told this when i signed my lease(which I was never told) So what that told me about this place is that they care not about me calling Campus View home, so I guess I will take my business elsewhere.

Son likes it but very disappointing as a parent, paying the rent. Attempted to pay the entire semester in September online but was told last week that it did not include December rent. Now trying to pay December rent(PLUSLATEFEE!!!) and online payment system does not work. I’d advise all parents to explore their options before signing a lease at Campus View.

I’ve lived at Campus View for the past two years now, and I’ve been incredibly pleased. Maintenance requests are almost immediately responded to, they take excellent care of the landscape, and the staff is incredibly friendly. Free cable/internet is awesome, and the rent is definitely fair for what you are getting. One of my only complaints is that they never salt the parking lots, sidewalks, or roads in the winter. They do plow fairly often, but it gets slippery and dangerous.
