Thunderbowl Lanes

I’ve been bowling for years, so I like to think I know a good bowling alley when I see one. Thunderbowl IS a good bowling in several regards. The prices are among the cheapest around. You can bowl for 2 – 3 hours nonstop and spend less than $ 15. The drinks and food are well priced, and you can get decently intoxicated for under $ 20. Every time I’ve been here, I’ve never had a problem with a lane malfunctioning or computer issue, which is high in my book. The lanes themselves are as stock as they come, so if you have an above-​average bowling technique, you might need to make some adjustments. It is possible to bowl a 250+ on their bone-​dry lanes.
The atmosphere is what a lot of people complain about, and I can attest to that. It is a huge bowling alley, but on a weekend night, it will be packed with rowdy teens and weekend dads with their kids. I don’t mind the ghetto-​ness, as long as they’re not on the lane next to me acting like idiots. If your group is less than five people, the front desk clerk will tell you, «I can’t offer you two lanes in case we get busy and need available lanes.» That’s always irritating, because they have 90 lanes and are never filled to capacity. If your friends need a house ball, forget about it. They have the shittiest lot of house balls, and you’ll have to walk the entire alley to even find one. There are no servers, so you’ll have to go to the bar to get a drink, which is inconvenient, and service at the bar is always extremely slow. You better just get 3 – 4 drinks at a time. Despite my criticism, it is still my favored bowling alley in the north downriver area. You’ll always get a lane, and the price is right. Bring your own ball and shoes, and be half-​drunk before you get there.

My husband and I went for a holiday work party here and had a blast.
The set up was super easy, everything was organized and made getting settled in quick and painless. They even set up special kids lanes with the gutter lanes blocked off so the children in the group could have their own fun. They also have an arcade and fun area for them. This allowed our group to all be happy; children, parents and non parents.
The adults in the group had access to both cheap beer and cheap mixed drinks. Perfect. Nothing like three buck drinks with decent alcohol to make me happy. My first game was a 70, my next one after a three buck drink was a 120. In other words, to a novice, alcohol is a must to bowl halfway decently. To have this necessity at a bargain price point? Perfect.
We had free soft drinks and water. The pizza was decent. Everyone seemed very content. It was kind of awesome to get to do a strange activity for us as a group. Very bonding. A good time was had by all. Not a typical party but a fun one. I would totally go again.

A great time was had by all! My office wanted to have a family-​friendly holiday party so they picked Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park. I normally plan the holiday parties, but after making the call to set the party date, I must say, there was virtually nothing I had to do. The food was handled by Thunderbowl’s Chef Curtis (PHENOMINAL Mac & Cheese, pizza and chicken fingers!), the bar was never backed up, the lanes were freshly oiled, and the rest of the staff were very accommodating. If you are looking for an office party, a birthday party, or just to bowl, I would highly recommend this bowling alley. There are tons of lanes, plenty of food and drink options and more than an ample supply of shoes and balls.

If your idea of a good time bowling is sharing your lane with your lane neighbors kids, adults who want to sit in your scoring area and not move, use your area as a food buffet, stand in front of your little «stolen» area to watch tv, use your lane to throw their ball and drop back into your lane after they throw their ball and get this… line dancing into your lane. this is the place for you. did I forget they have security… bowling alley security. nice family fun. That said. staff was accommodating in switching my lane. If your looking for a bowling experience with practiced bowling etiquette do not go here. if you like a block party bowling experience, do not hesitate, head on down.

Pretty average bowling alley. Large, lots of lanes — enough for them to have open bowl every night, even if they also have leagues playing. The staff is friendly, and I think it was about $ 3 per person per game, plus $ 1.25 for shoes. The place is pretty clean (well, as clean as bowling alleys get). There’s a pro shop and a snack counter that has the standard drinks, nachos, and fries along with burgers and other sandwiches that looked pretty decent.
A varied crowd of people, from teenagers to families with small kids, to adults there for the leagues, to a few older gentlemen there by themselves just enjoying a few solo games.
The best thing, to me, was the way they handled a group of annoying teenagers in the lane next to us. About 6 very loud teenage boys were just acting ridiculous… using terrible language very loudly, even though there were small children close by… throwing the balls carelessly down the alley, most of the time using my ball and my friend’s ball (we were sharing the console with them) instead of their own… they had been in front of us in line and I knew that not all 6 of them had paid, yet all 6 were playing… final straw was when they whipped a ball down the alley when the pins were resetting, it hit the setter and jammed it broken. One of the staff came immediately, gave them a well deserved reaming out that was effective yet still professinal, and kicked them all out. Kudos. Too many places these days let customers stick around even when they’re being inappropriate, I guess for the sake of not wanting to lose business. But, had they let those boys stay, it would have continued to ruined our experience (I was there with the «little sister» i mentor) and we probably would have left after one game.
Bowling alleys are kind of one in the same to me, but the fact that this alley had the «balls» to throw out the bad seeds gives them an upperhand in my eyes.

Really gone downhill. Hardly any bowling balls. Many of them chipped. Pin machines did not reset all the time. Ball would not return most of the time. We paid for two games, but lane was shut down after 1 hour.

This is my favorite bowling ally I only like going here and cloverlanes. Big place always have open bowling. They even have bowling in the dark and the pins glow. Cosmic bowling its called. Nice crowd and good lanes.

Glow in the dark balls, now that’s kinky. Unless you’re talking about cosmic bowling. It’s glow in the dark, black light bowling. Whiten your teeth and really glow in the dark so everyone can see you.
I went here for a birthday party. We cosmic bowled, it was a blast. Obviously you’re not going here and reporting your scores to the PBA.
All fun and joking aside this bowling alley is like the best alley around in Michigan and many other states. It boasts as the second largest in the country with a total of 90 lanes. It’s so big (How big is it?) that you need a golf cart to get from one end to the other. This bowling alley is clean for as large as it is. The staff is very friendly. Great pro shop. They even sponsor many PBA tournaments here. This is also home to the old TV show Bowling for Dollars. This is one of the many and my favorite bowling alleys that I used to go to all the time when I lived in the area. This was a great date place. If she was good at bowling, then you set up a second date.
