Please help me pass this along, I am normally a keep to myself person but this needs to stop. We were out of town and my german shepherd roxy was with my daughter Adrianne she came home to find Roxy bleeding from one of her nipples and in distress. I immediately told her to take her to the emergency vet AFFILIATED VET IN ALLEN PARK. Once she was in they asked her how much money she wanted to spend !! We were on the line with her and she asked if they could talk to us –which they declined because they are not allowed-​kevin called the office and the dr talked to him-​There was a girl name Trish that told Adrianne she is getting worse what are your wishes-​Adrianne told them bring her in to the room with me if she is going to die-​TRISH slammed the door on her !!! They were very pushy when we were on the line with them saying they could do a $ 6000 surgery but she most likely would not make it. We had to put her down –we were all on face time telling her how much we loved her. Adrianne kissed her for all of us goodbye-​and turned away and asked her boyfriend to please pay =the dr then told her she could not leave and since she sined her in she had to complete the transaction-​I cannot believe that these people work for a emergency vet and have no compassion for someone who treats there dog as a family member-​If i was there I would have been crying with the owners. It makes me so upset that we have to be treated like this-​They are in it for the money. I called them to find out who owns or what corporation they belong to and was advised that they do not know! I will get to the bottom of it but passing this on-​will help so much!

This place is all about making money, which was not surprising to me when I had to take my chihuahua mix here after he was attacked by a much larger dog. What did surprise me was the lack of skill possessed by the vet who operated on my dog. Basically, my dog had two wounds that needed to be addressed, one of which was on top of his head and less concerning than the punctured carotid artery that was bleeding profusely. The vet was able to stop the bleeding and successfully stitch him up. She told us the wound on top of his head would need a drain to prevent infection, if she could get one in. Well, she couldn’t and so she just stitched the wound closed, gave us some antibiotics, and sent us on our way.
When we took him to our regular vet for a follow up, the first thing he asked was why they did not put in a drain. My dog’s head became badly infected and since there was no drain, the pus inside eventually pushed out the side, creating another hole. He had to have surgery to put a drain in and now has two large wounds on top of his head instead of one. He has lost a lot of skin and needs a graft. I can’t help but think this could have been avoided if the vet had just left the second injury alone and let us go to our regular, more competent, vet in the morning. We would still have paid the exorbitant $ 1600 bill but maybe my dog wouldn’t still be so sick.

I took my little Chihuahua in when my other dog bit her eye. As soon as I entered and they saw the extent of her wound, they took my poor baby back to stabilize her and put her on pain meds. After about 45 minutes the dr came in to discuss her injury. She would need to have the eye removed. I agreed, they brought me my little girl, so I could visit a bit, and i left for the night. I picked her up the following morning. I was totally satisfied with the way we were treated and I felt the pricing was fair. 1400 for surgery, meds and overnight stay., I heard them on the phone discouraging others from bringing their pets, as they had 2 surgeries for that evening. I thought that was extremely professional knowing they had enough on their hands. I would not hesitate to take my pets here in an emergency. Thank you to the wonderful staff for helping us.

I will preface this review by telling you we had to euthanize our baby here, so our experience was already awful. I’ll save you the preamble, but, due to a series of events during an oral exam, our 3 year old cat went into full blown congestive heart failure. We were visiting my parents for Thanksgiving when all hell broke loose and we were forced to go to this vet. I suppose it’s the nature of this office, but there wasn’t a warm staff member to be found. Everything was cut, dry and financial. They told us they could save our cat if we consented to about 3g’s worth of care. They took her away from us, into the back, and wouldn’t let us see her. How exactly do I even know you’re doing what you say if I can’t be with her/​see her?
We finally pushed our way back in the early evening, to see her clearly in distress. They told us they were doing everything they could and made us leave. Two hours later, I received a call from the relief vet (evening shift, I guess), telling us we needed to come and do the humane thing. She would die a very painful death in the night if we didn’t.
Everything happened so fast.
Our healthy girl went from bouncy and playful to dead in less than 72 hours. They basically pushed us out the door and seemed annoyed by our outward grief.
My cat’s eventual death was not their fault, it was the fault of our home vet. However, they gouged us despite clearly knowing there was nothing they could do and then treated us like idiots when we were crushed.

Had to pay these people $ 1900 to keep my dog overnight until she could be seen by our regular vet in the morning. I agree with others, there are no smiles here. No compassion. Just a price sheet that keeps being shoved in your face with each step of the process so they can assure they don’t do anything to might help your animal without extorting exorbitant amounts of money. Yeah, we get it, you are after hours but that doesn’t mean you should expect 4x the going rate for procedures, meds, etc. I will take my dog in the backyard with a shovel next time. Avoid them at all cost.

If I didn’t have to put a star I wouldn’t. I took my dog here when I came home from work because I noticed that he wasn’t breathing right. I live close to here so this is the first place I went. I walk in and they told me it was going to be a 80 check up charge and I said that’s fine. They took my dog back put him on oxygen and took me back into room. The doctor came in got my story and said the best thing to do was to get a X-​ray one X-​ray on him to see what was going on. She left the room and a second later a assistant came in the room to show me the prices. To get two x-​Rays it was going to be about 180 dollars I said fine. They did the x-​Rays and the doctor came back again to tell me that it looks like he has pneumonia but I can’t tell for sure we need to do more testing on him and I said ok. Then again the assistant came in with the prices. She tried to tell me to keep him for two days on oxygen and antibiotics it was going to be 1700 dollars! I stared to cry and said I can’t afford that and they said well the thee option is you take him home. I said awesome I guess I have to take him home because I don’t have 1700 dollars to give. As I left they gave me some antibiotics and sent me on my way. Well the hole night he was not breathing good so in the morning I took him right back. I said there has to be something you can do for my dog. They took him back again but him on oxygen and put me in a room. The assistant came in the room about two minutes later to tell me to treat him it was now going to be 2000 – 3000 dollars! I just started to cry and said who can afford that! I left with my dog once again crying hopping that he makes it through this. What ever happened to compassionate care, I get that I have to pay something but that much is a little crazy. Never would I ever tell anyone to go here nor would I ever go there again.

I cannot say enough good things about the vet and staff here. My cat threw a blood clot and was immobile, in a lot of pain, and very stressed. I was barely in the door and they were administering a pain shot to try and make her more comfortable. The vet was so compassionate, explaining the available treatment was not that successful and did not guarantee any quality of life. I appreciated she didn’t try to talk me into expensive, invasive procedures. They made both me and my cat as comfortable as possible during a difficult time. They even made a clay paw print so I’d have something to remember my cat by. While I hope I never have another vet emergency again, I would definitely go to this clinic again.

A previous reviewer nailed it when he said that these services are in it for the money. They do charge a premium for being available around the clock, and I accept that. What I didn’t appreciate was them trying to push really expensive and stressful diagnostic tests for animals that are already sick and stressed.
My dog, who had been vomiting all weekend, is very fearful of being handled by strangers, but with a little patience and a calm attitude, you can do a reasonable physical exam on him – as demonstrated by my regular vet. After 3 hours of waiting (so this really is more like «urgent» care) and a stressful exam later, I was told that they were unable to get a temperature reading on him or even a feel for whether or not his tummy felt abnormal, although he did have really loud bowel sounds. They then offered me a treatment plan would have cost me well over $ 400 in diagnostics alone. In my opinion, it just isn’t right to replace a good physical exam with expensive diagnostics.
Having had some medical training, I knew my dog’s situation wasn’t extremely severe, but I just needed something to get him to stop vomiting so I can get him to a regular vet the next day. I insisted on just symptomatic treatment with an anti-​emetic and subcutaneous fluids and was able to leave the clinic with the shirt on my back and my dog’s vomiting under control.
tl;dr — With this place, I feel like you would be at a disadvantage if you don’t know what to ask for or to decline, which can be emotionally challenging for pet parents who are already distressed by their ailing pets. They basically throw the whole kitchen sink of diagnostics and treatments at you without regard to what kind of additional stress that would put on your pet and you have to sign, on paper, all the services that you are declining, waiving, or accepting. For someone who is unsure what their pet really needs, I get the feeling that signing those waivers may feel like you’re signing your pet’s death certificate. The good things about this place is they are available 24/​7, the facilities appear clean, and the staff were competent and pleasant to deal with.

Do not go here if you care about your animals. Brought our dog in and the lack of compassion and assistance is not how people who care about animals act.

Ungodly expensive, and no diagnosis! Our Yorkie was critically ill, we had no choice but go there. For $ 658.00 they would have done an x-​ray, a CBC, give him fluids and a pain shot, AND THAT’S IT! The lady told us that he was in critical condition. When we told her we only had 300.00 that night, she asked if there was anyone we could call (at midnight) to get more money because the overnight monitoring would cost us another 6 — 800 dollars!!! We left there with a critically ill Yorkie, no money, and no diagnosis! I will repeat this post on every review board I can find! The reason I give the extra star, is the place was very clean, but I would never go to this er vet again. Maybe they all take advantage of our love for our dogs after hours… (Example, Dix animal gets about $ 60.00 for a complete x-​ray, these guys charge $ 200.00 for the same x-​ray!)
Also, I told the DR that we gave the little guy a teaspoon of organic pure pumpkin for constipation earlier that day, and she looked at me like I was stupid. (pumpkin is a well known and very effective laxative for dogs with constipation)
When the time came to talk to us, she sent some other person to do the dirty work. She reminded me of a used car salesperson)!

Another reviewer summed this up perfectly, but I will add my story.
My dog developed a swollen leg from paw to shoulder inexplicably. My regular vet could not see me and sent me here. My dog has vet stress and anxiety and, while annoying, he is still controllable. The staff was incredibly rude, impatient, and dare I say hostile. They immediately sedated my dog and started grilling me on why he was injured, as if it were my fault. My dog had just had surgery and was on strict no physical activity. No walks, no running, no playing. He was practically sedentary at the time the swelling came on. They insisted it must have been from a fall, he ran into something, something hit him, etc. And although he had a fever and obvious signs of infection they insisted on an x-​ray to the tune of $ 290. To no one’s surprise, the x-​ray showed absolutely no sign of injury. Then, as an afterthought, they decided to check his temperature and white blood cell counts. Fever, elevated white blood cell count, and they still claim he must have fallen and sent me off with some pain killers. $ 400 vet bill for pain killers.
Well, oops! They were wrong. It WAS an infection. A staph infection. That didn’t come to light until he had bloody, pussy, open abscesses on his arm. A quick google search returned that all of the symptoms he had when I brought him here were signs of an infection. The Internet was better able to diagnose my dog than the vet.
I would absolutely never return here. Do not waste your time. Find a vet who does emergency services 7 days a week. This was the worst experience I have ever had with «professionals».

We’ve been here twice while our regular vet was closed. Once with our kitty Danger when he was sick and they took great care of him and kept us updated to his status when he had to stay the night.
The second time was more somber. We went it was to take our girl Kiwi when she had to be put to sleep. She had been sick for a while and one evening it was time for her to go. They were considerate and compassionate.
I appreciate the care they gave our pets and the kindness they showed. This is a good place to take your pet for emergencies.

I had to bring in my parent’s dog on Sunday afternoon, which to my understanding from the other people waiting, it is one of their busiest days. Once I checked in I was told there was a 2 hours wait as there were 6 animals ahead of me. Yeesh, since I had no other choice so we waited. It wasn’t a ‘hit by a car’ emergency but it wasn’t something that could wait till tomorrow as she was in pain and limping. If you have a large dog, bring a blanket for them to lie down on. If you don’t enjoy reading Highlights, bring a book. They called us back after almost an hour and a half. That’s where the REAL waiting began. After the initial exam to check her heart rate and temp and to figure out what was going on, they would occasionally pop in to let us know what was happening. The vet came in and did a thorough physical exam on her back legs and spine. Everyone was extremely sweet and caring. I understood that they were very busy that day so most of the waiting took place while she was going through a battery of tests in the other room. Our total time there was about 4 hours. Exam room could use some more seating for more than one person. But it was a big room and perfect for pacing around in a circle. When all was done, everything was explained, a detailed instruction form on her treatment, medication administration, and how to care for her at home. Included was our copy of x-​rays to take to a follow up appointment at our own vet.

I’m not sure where I want to start.
On Sunday, something was very wrong with my Boston Terrier. He was Unilocaling and crying randomly and it wasn’t a quick Unilocal– not in the least. I was very concerned as it kept happening throughout the day. Rather than wait to see his regular vet the next day I decided to just spend the extra money, and bring him to see the vet at Affiliated Veterinary Emergency Services.
First of all, no one there was friendly. Not one.
Once we were taken back into the exam room, my little guy began to panic. He doesn’t like the vet, never has and I was doing my best to keep him calm while the vet tech fumbled (yes, fumbled) around and took is temperature. I will never forget the horrible looks she was giving him while he tried to get away from her. I understand that it can be frustrating, however, if you do not have a genuine compassion and love for animals, please get out of this field.
Then the vet came in. She was equally as rude and dismissive as everyone else was. I realize that I came in because I was worried, but please, don’t dismiss my concerns and simply tell me «There is nothing wrong with him» and hand me a bill. Literally, that’s exactly how it happened. She asked me no real questions, she didn’t ask me about his history. She actually said to me, «well, maybe he just got stung by a bee». Maybe? I can’t say that was the answer I was looking for as a concerned owner.
Lastly, and what was most appalling was their lack of compassion for this beautiful greyhound that was in the waiting area as I paid my bill for the diagnosis of «Maybe a bee sting». This gorgeous dog turned around and had a massive bite from another dog on her rib cage, and blood on her legs. She was shaking uncontrollably, ears back and eyes wide. She was in a panic and crying in pain. Yet they let her stand there and wait. When I first came in, they had told us the wait time and explained that if an «emergency» came in, that they would have to take them over non emergency patients. I would consider this panicked, bleeding dog (who was a senior, as her owner told me in conversation when I expressed my concern for her dog) an absolute emergency. Instead, they took back a cat that a woman brought in as all of this was happening because she was a stray.
I can’t even express how disappointed I am in the lack of initiative to help the bleeding innocent animal in their waiting area. The receptionists found it A-​OK to just stand behind the counter and talk.
It’s so sad that this is the place that so many of us in this area have to turn to in a time of emergency. I will never willingly come back here.

My dog broke an artery in his mouth and I wasted a lot of time coming here. We were first yelled at for getting blood on their lobby chairs, then told to go somewhere else because their vet was in surgery. So the tech told me to leave and gave me a plymouth address to go too. Didn’t help me get my 80lb golden back into my SUV, didn’t offer sympathy or any kind words, just a simple ‘go somewhere else.’ For an emergency facility this is uncalled for, because I had a true emergency that couldn’t wait for a long drive out to plymouth at 2:30am. HATE this place to my core for for their lack of compassion. The Plymouth emergency vet was amazing but had to give him a ton of blood for all he lost on the long car ride there.
I wrote a letter to the Afflilated Vet only to receive a cold phone call days later completely defending everything they had done that day. No apology for what had happened, except for the blood on their chairs comment. Would rather them not have called at all. Many of my friends refuse to go to this place and will travel much father for the better service or even service at all since they have all had the same experience. If you love you pet, stay far away from this place!!!

We took our cat here when she developed a limp after an incident. She had an infection in one leg which was being treated and she never showed pain or limping in that leg. So when she started limping on her other leg, we wanted to have it checked out right away. We waited 2 hours in the waiting room, which, since we were a walk-​in at an emergency clinic, was fine. But once we got in to see the vet, they pretty much decided right off the bat that we didn’t know what we were talking about. They didn’t examine her in front of us, so I have no idea if they even bothered to look at the leg we said she was limping on. We were sent home and told she was limping as a result of the infection. When she didn’t improve after several days we managed to get an appointment with our regular vet, and sure enough, her limp was NOT due to the infection. We spent a lot of money at AVS and all we got a vet that didn’t even listen to what we had to say regarding our pet.

I’m so pleased with the treatment my 3 lb Chihuahua got when he came in with what ended up being a pancreatic attack. They knew how to treat such a small guy, I’ve had trouble with a different vet who was NOT knowledgable on this (his size or that he was having pancreatic problems and not just plain old gastroenteritis). AVES doctors (he had to return for a 2^nd visit) were very thorough and explained everything clearly and glady and patiently answered all questions I had. They were willing to work with what I had available in terms of payment. Very professional and I would recommend to ANYONE!

My dog Zoey had a couple seizures at the worst time… a Sunday night. I mean, any time is bad for a dog to seizure, but on a Sunday night, when all the vets are closed? I worried as much about finding a place to take her as I did about her current condition.
That’s where AVES comes in. I called and explained our situation and they recommended we bring Zoey in to see the vet. I filled out routine paper work and we got placed in a room within 20 minutes. We didn’t get to see the doctor until 45 minutes later but the rooms are large and have a 2-​person bench to sit on. It was a comfortable wait.
Zoey was diagnosed with epilepsy. The doctor recommended putting her on medication but also gave us the choice of waiting it out since she doesn’t have them frequently enough to truly warrant meds. It was nice to hear the pros and cons of starting her on anti-​seizure medication from the vet.
Throughout the entire visit, my dog was very apprehensive of everyone working there. She has a large bark and is very tense when she meets new people. I applaud the employees for recognizing Zoey’s need for humans to «be on her level» close to the ground and having to sniff them before she eases. Not all people are willing to chill on the floor for a couple minutes to let a dog sniff them; I’ve had a couple people opt to put her in a muzzle, which she totally doesn’t need.
The doctor also followed my dog’s preferred protocol and earned Zoey’s trust in a matter of minutes. She didn’t care that Zoey wanted to give lots of kisses and lick her hands, she saw it as my dog wanting to bond. It made me feel better during what was a very stressful visit.
The visit was $ 70. I think it may have cost more than usual because it was a weekend. They told me (without hassle) on the phone what a visit would cost, so I was not shocked. AVES is open 24/​7, 365 days a year, so remember them if your cat or dog ever has an emergency.
tl;dr: Great ²⁴⁄₇ emergency vet with caring staff.
