The Granada LA

Tuesday nights are my kind of scene. Good crowd. Good music — mix of salsa and bachata. Not too many people on the dance floor yet not too empty. I can get dressed up and not gave creepers to worry about. Comfortable enjoyable environment and reasonable cover charge of $ 5. Get there earlier for a dance class or two. It became a home away from home where you start to see the regular faces. My Cheers!

Had a great time on Friday nights going to the salsa class and salsa dancing. Parking gets a little crazy but with a little patience you can get some good spots. The class is very basic and good for beginers.

Been going here since the golden years of Salsa. Yes there was a period, where the kids with the fedoras would do dance jams at the end of the night. The elders in their best attire would sit on the sidelines watching the dancers. Some still come to watch.
But boy has time changed, in a good way. The music has definitely evolved to another level. Granted that they still offer beginner classes before the band performs.
The crowds have been mixed, young and mature. If you are a beginner and starting, suggest hitting this spot on Fridays. If you’re bold and confident with flare, then Saturday’s will suit you well. Both days are great.
Although this spot has changed management throughout the years. Still carries the same spark like back in the day. I don’t frequent as much like before due to other commitments, it’s nice to know Granada is still there.

Good music, good dancing, some people were amazing dancers… Overall I really liked the vibe and will definately be going back.

This place is mainly for dancing. I would give 4 stars for the dancing part but the food service is POOR. We came in at 8 pm and it is now 1031 n we r just getting served for dinner. DANCING yes, but dinner absolutely NOT. The food s just ok not real spanish cuisine. COME For appetizers

I have taken 2 beginning salsa dance classes there. It was really good for a beginner as the teacher explains everything in detail and we get to practice in a fun, non judgmental environment. Lots of people showed up and because we change partners every few minutes, it makes it more interesting.

Still highly suggested. I’ve returned a couple more times, but yesterday was my first time taking the bachata class. Taking a class will definitively help out with some of the proper dance etiquette and keeping time. I could only follow along at the most basic level and it was fun. It still looks tough, but hey you can’t be put off by the expert like dancing that you see there. An extra five dollars for a dance class? Sure, why not?

My sister and I went for their salsa/​bachata night ($ 15) on Saturday and had a great time. Reading some of the other reviews we went and grabbed drinks at a bar called The Rabbit Hole for some drinks beforehand and then walked over after.
My sister loves salsa, while my love is for bachata so we spent a couple dances on the first floor (salsa) and a couple up on the third (bachata) and
then split up to dance on our own floors for a while. I love that neither of us were bothered by anyone even though we were alone for a good amount of time. There were some creepy old guys I ended up dancing with, what can you do. For the most part though everyone I danced with was great! Also pretty patient when I was trying salsa (I’m pretty much a beginner at salsa)
I asked a couple of guys to dance (I know, scandalous haha) bachata with me and they were all great dancers! Overall I loved it, the only reason I gave this review 4 stars is bc while the 1^st floor has great high ceilings, and doors to the outside; the bachata floor is extremely hot, it’d be nice if they could keep that door to the back stairs open for some air circulation.

Great place, great music great atmosphere. Tons of fun in the dancing floor. The only reason why I’m being brutal wit the stars is because since the kitchen was closed we went out to grab something quick to bite and once we came back the girl upfront told us we couldn’t go in anymore and we had to pay again! We even had the stupid wristband but nope she wanted more bucks

This place doesn’t even have good music. My friend request a song and we got kick out. Don’t go here. Is not worth your $$$

What a great place to go salsa dancing! We came here for a girl friend’s birthday party and had such an amazing time.
The floor is huge, the live bands are phenomenal, and the culture is great! I’ll likely return for some lessons, which I hear are also good.
The cover charge is $ 15, and the drinks are quite expensive for not being very good.

Not only is the Food Great but, The Dance Lessons are Excellent! Vanessa is OUTSTANDING!

This place is awesome. I happen to hear the music walking down main street so i checked it out an i was an awwwww. It seemed like i was in a movie the music was going everybody was dancing having a great time and the vibe was right all around. if you havent been here yet you have to pass by you will get hooked an want to come back over and over again.

The live band is amazing

The advertised salsa cumbia merengue and bachata, but all the play is salsa in the first floor and bachata in the 3^rd floor and forget about cumbias the don’t play any according to the djs and nerengue only 1 song and to top it off drinks are 12 dollars worse club ever. to bad the good ones are so far from sand gabriel valley

This dance floor is okay. Coming from the bay area where Latin dance is the night life of countless and the crowd is courteous and friendly; mostly working professionals going out to dance.
So the crowd. Be cautious, there’s a bunch of pigs out there just trying to feel up on girls and making misogynistic comments about them to other men.
Bachata floor was DJ-​ed by some dude and mostly play Prince Royce or Romeo Santos. It was somewhat crowded.
Salsa had live band playing but I wasn’t impressed by the selection.
I don’t know why it’s hard to find a nice ballroom in LA when the Hispanic/​Latino population is so big there. But compared to the East Bay/​Bay Area, it sucked. This place sucked too.

Very nice place has a big dance floor, that has room not only for those that are experience salsa dancer but also for those learning and the ones who just feel like «dancing by them self».
GOOD live salsa music, the band plays music full of energy and the songs had different salsa bit, very fun, I didn’t want them to stop playing.
However the songs that the DJ plays sound all the same, sounded like he just play a very extend version of a song that last the entire set, there was not variety on the kind of Salsa music.

I go out to bars in LA all the time. I also dance salsa, I’ve been dancing since I was 17 so I know the common problem venues that host salsa have. salseros typically don’t buy that much liquor and will just ask for a free glass of water instead. I know this. which is exactly why I make it a point to order a drink, well that and I enjoy a good cocktail :)
I ordered my go — to drink, a Cadillac, and it did not taste good to me at all. It was like drinking sugar and it cost me $ 12. I asked my gf to taste it and she agreed, it didn’t taste good.
So I went to the bar to ask for something else instead, I asked for a rum and coke cause I figured it’s easy and it’s nearly impossible to mess up. The guy behind the bar would not make me another drink though without charging me. He stood there and defended the terrible drink saying that «I ordered a Cadillac and that’s what I got» and that it’s not his fault, he’s been making them the same way for 15 years and he’s never had a complaint.
1) I don’t care about anything you just said. 2) I just wanted my $ 12 to equal a drink I’d enjoy. 3) Have you heard of professionalism? Customer service? It goes like this, if the customer doesn’t like the drink, you make them something else.
I truly very rarely ask that my drink be replaced. I can usually drink just about anything, but I hate sweet. I do, Cadillacs are not supposed to be sweet. I’ve never come across such an argumentative bartender. I was very surprised and irritated the bartender wouldn’t just do his job. I asked to speak to the manager but it turned out he was the manager. So I left the drink there and went back to my friends.
Later I asked for some water, which he again refused insisting he had to charge me for a bottle of water. So I asked for a Sprite instead thinking that he’d have the sense to not try to charge me for that too, but no such luck. He asked for money after he poured the Sprite and that was it for me. It was really unbelievable. Oh and to make things better, the bartender (a short man with an obvious Napoleon Complex) had me kicked out of the venue for angrily giving him back the Sprite when I realized he was going to charge me for it. I didn’t throw it at him or pour it out or yell or curse. I forcefully gave him back the Sprite and the next thing out of his mouth is, «Security, security.» Mind you I’m 5’4 and 110 lbs. Really? Security? Whatever. I had no problem leaving. I’ve been in the salsa scene for a long time and have friends that go, and when I can, I’ll be suggesting we go anywhere but Granada.
If the owner reads this I hope you remind your manager that the way you keep customers isn’t by being argumentative or defensive. it’s simply by not letting their $ 12 go to waste.

Had a great time at Granada. Showed up a little late to the free lesson before hand but was easily able to join in. The instructor is great and very easy to hear through the speaker system.
We went on Salsa night and in watching other people was able to pick up a new move. Although I am still a beginner. lol. The only think is I wish the kitchen was open a little later. We got a little hungry and went to buy some local tacos at 12:30am.

I am actually a big fan of Granada, it’s one of my favorite places to go dancing! I’ve been on Thursday, Friday and Saturday so I’ll touch on the feel of each night.
THURS: It’s Bachata Night, so it’s mostly Bachata and Merengue playing in the main room. If you love Bachata, it’s a lot of fun. They play a few salsa songs here and there. I even learned a couple new ways to dance Bachata with some extra flavor haha. Great dancers!
FRI: Is a mixture of Salsa, merengue, bachata and cha cha (but mostly Salsa). In the main room only. I don’t think I’ve ever come to Granada and there weren’t a good mix of great dancers. Fridays are fun as well. I think the cover is $ 10 on Fridays?
SAT: My fave night to go because all the rooms are open. They have Salsa in the main room (usually a live band), Bachata upstairs on the 3^rd floor and Hip/​hop/​Top 40 outside on patio so its a nice mix. I like having options of going from one room to another. The cover is $ 15 on Saturdays.
All in all, I like Granada because it’s spacious, has FREE parking in the structure across the street, great music and a great mix of dancers. I feel like I always have a ton of fun and learn a lot when I go! :)

I would rate this a 5 however this location needs structural repairs, owner should look into this as he can have a lawsuit on his hands if someone gets injured.
I’ve been to their Saturday dance, love the vibe, I’ve eaten here, food is ok. I guess this place is just good to dance the night away.

First, the good news: The Granada has modified its dress code. Whereas they had insisted on men wearing long-​sleeve shirts with a collar, now they just say «look nice.» What a relief. Now we guys don’t need to have a special wardrobe just so we can get past the haughty eyes of the front door people. I even saw a man with a polo shirt and bermuda shorts, and even he wasn’t thrown out.
I was there for a bachata night. One of my dance partners commented that it was fuller that night than usual; maybe that’s what happens when the dress code is more reasonable. Kathy Reyes was the instructor, and it was tough. Most studios and clubs I’ve been to, the dance instructor uses a wireless microphone; Kathy didn’t, and she may not have had a choice in that matter. It seemed that she was yelling at us, but actually she was trying to project her voice so that she could be understood, music or no music. Poor girl.
The crowd was good, typical for a dance studio. Ranging from beginners who are trying to keep up, to advanced dancers who sneer at the beginners, and including ladies who may or may not want to dance but they sit with their friends the whole night and therefore never get asked. And it was a pleasant surprise when Kathy drug ME out to the dance floor for a bachata, even when I warned her that I wouldn’t be able to show her off the way I wanted to. Cover prices are normal for a dance studio.
Not an extremely special dance place to go out of your way to visit, but it works well if you’re in this area.

My new Salsa club. Came here for a birthday party and was pleasantly surprised. I started the night with dinner and drinks. Dinner is just ok, nothing spectacular. Next time I would eat elsewhere. I had the chicken taco, hot wings, and the coconut shrimp. All just pretty average.
The dancing however is alot of fun. If you don’t know how to dance, you can come early and take a really cool lesson so that you’re not a wall flower later in the night.
They have three dance floors to choose from. The main dance floor is the Salsa dance floor where they have a live band and lots of dancers. The second dance floor is a hip hop dance floor located outside. The third dance floor is a Bachata floor where they play exclusively Bachata, located upstairs.
Overall, really fun ! Definitely will come again.

LESSON
The one-​hour overview is led by a really fine guy. He opens by teaching the most basic steps. Then, everyone makes a giant circle and we pair off, switching every 30 seconds or so, practicing the steps (and eventually, twirls) with different partners. The only challenge is that there’s a lot of switching partner action and, perhaps, not enough time to get the steps down before having to start over with a new partner. Also, need more guys! When paired with another girl, one of us had to switch to doing the lead without even locking in our part — haha!
Great review for those who might feel a bit rusty.
SPACE
Ground floor has a live band. Reserved seating (call ahead) and a bar in the back to quench your thirst. As a girl, random guys will simply approach you, just stand around and you’ll find yourself in the zone on the dance floor. It really is a fun, interactive, non-​sketchy place. Gets crowded later into the night, but just enjoy the Latin flava!
Second floor has seating for dining. There’s another dance floor on the third level.
Outside of the ground floor, there was a DJ and what seemed like an informal dance floor for hip-​hop if that fits your groove.
PARKING
Free in the structure right across the street.

Came here on a Saturday (salsa and bachata night) for my birthday and had an amazing time. I picked this place specifically because they advertise a bachata room!

-$ 15 cover. There is a guest list online but I’m not sure what it does, since nobody asked us for our names when we got in
-$ 1 coat/​purse check, which you will want to do because dancing with a purse is annoying
–2 main dance floors: salsa room downstairs and bachata room upstairs. Outside there is another dance floor playing reggaeton, etc. but it was pretty empty
–Live salsa band on Saturday and they are GOOD!
–Ladies, wear comfortable heels — ankle straps help
–Drinks are reasonably priced
They supposedly have dance lessons earlier in the evening, but I didn’t go. Pretty much everyone there later in the evening knows what they are doing, so if you have zero experience I would recommend going with someone who does or doing the lessons. Also, if you are uncomfortable dancing with strangers, come with a dance partner.
I’ve only been to a few other salsa places in LA, but my friends regularly go to many, and we all agreed the Granada is one of our favorites. The live band was amazing and everyone was a pretty good dancer. The dance floor wasn’t crazy crowded, which was nice as well. I fell in love with the bachata room, since I love my Aventura and Prince Royce :) and I think it’s great that they have both options available. Unfortunately the night I was there, the bachata dance floor was on the emptier side, but the music was still on point.
Overall, I had a fantastic night at the Granada LA and fell even more in love with bachata and salsa there. Highly recommend checking them out on a Saturday night if you love Latin dance!
