Sugar Hills Bakery

We found a Groupon deal for the cakepops, so we decided to come here to buy some. Although the cakepops appeared to look cute and yummy in the refrigerated display, they tasted like CRAP. We were expecting the cakepops to be fluffy inside, but the texture was wet and doughy. Gross. We couldn’t really tell what flavors they were, so they were pretty bland. I think they use frozen cakepops, and it seems like they’ve been refrigerated in the display for too long because it also kind of looked wet a little while after we purchased them. Other than that, their macarons and fruit tart were okay. The macarons are $ 1.60 each piece.

Today I was craving a really good panini, my friend told me that Sugar Hills Bakery just started to serve lunch. I tried the Chipotle Chicken. It was easily the best lunch I have had in a long time. The chicken was freshly cut and complemented perfectly by the arugula. I will definitely be coming back to try their other sandwich selections! Of course, when I left I had to try a cake pop. The red velvet practically melted in my mouth and I bought three more for my friends.
Service was great, staff is very friendly, and the food is great!
Sugar Hills Bakery is a hidden gem!

Sugar Hills Bakery did our wedding cake and sweet table on 9÷5÷2015 and they were AMAZING!!! Everything looked and tasted incredible!!! We got so many compliments all night and we are still getting compliments! Thank you so much Sugar Hills!!!

Amazing customer service! The staff took their time in helping make our decision for our big day! They brought out as many options as requested until we found the perfect wedding cake! Jacob the owner is incredible. He introduced himself and answered questions we had. What a huge help. We are so excited to see the finished product!

I love and miss Sugar Hills Bakery. I love there fancy cakes, macaroons and on and on. I all ways had a great experience at Sugar Hills. When we go back to Algonquin for a visit its at the top of our list of places to visit.

I stopped in my first time with a friend, who swears by the flour less chocolate cake. They didn’t have it. I took a few slices home to taste. Carrot cake was pretty tasty, the peanut butter cake was disguising. Not much flavor, too much of that fatty buttercream bland taste in the frosting that I hoped would help the dry cake. It still sits in my fridge, I won’t eat it. The chocolate fudge cake was not bad. The frosting was edible, but could have been better. Still using that buttercream thick fatty stuff for it. The cake was quite dried out on this one too. Makes me wonder if the other post rings true about them freezing products. Degrading the quality. I may return to try this flour less chocolate cake someday, but otherwise plan to venture elsewhere

OMG! So yesterday I tried their cake pops and they were just simple amazing. My fiancé loved them too and he doesn’t even like sweets! I love this bakery!

So I finally decided to try this bakery, as I needed a cake for my son’s 6^th birthday. And I must say… they had such a wide variety to choose from! The overall set up of the whole store was so put together! I cannot remember the name they called it, but it was hazelnut cake with chocolate and raspberry filling! By far the best cake I’ve tried in a long time. Sugar Hills is my new favorite!!!

Business 101: Never throw your competitors under the bus in front of your customers.
Business 102: Never belittle your current customers in from of potential customers.

Apparently they just don’t understand good business as they failed all three of these courses. My fiancée and I visited Sugar Hills for a wedding cake tasting this past Saturday. Needless to say when we left we agreed unanonymously that we’d be taking our business elsewhere. Everyone in this place had quite an attitude on them including the young lady who helped us. We were patiently waiting at a table to the side as they were serving customers in line and we got to see their interactions with their customers. I immediately wanted to walk out after observing these interactions but my fiancée was much kinder and felt we should still give them the benefit of the doubt. After yelling at and belittling a customer in line the young lady that was helping us had the nerve to mock this customer thinking we would laugh it off and side with the business. The whole time this was happening the customer was standing 5 feet away listening to everything. I’ve never felt so uncomfortable. Was their cake good? Yes it was but I will not give a dime to a business that operates like this. Coming from a busines professional I would urge the owner of this business to investigate, maybe even hire a secret shopper or two. These people that you have working for you are giving you a bad name and will run you into the ground very quickly. My only regret is that I didn’t take action and come to the aid of these customers by calling out the the lack of serve in front of everyone who worked there.

So we went here for our wedding cake, which has yet to be done, but the sample photo is absolutely gorgeous! I knew we would be ordering a glutenous cake, so I prepped my glutenous fiancé that he’d have to pick a delicious cake for our guests. To my surprise, the girl assisting us in the cake tasting offered me flourless chocolate cake, to which I said, «hell yeah!» It is DIVINE… It’s a denser cake, obvs, but has a slightly fluffy consistency that didn’t make it seem gluten free at all! I loved it so much that my fiancé surprised me with a whole cake for my surprise birthday party. I wish I could swim in this cake! Seriously, it is soooo good! All my friends loved it too. It’s definitely one of those rare baked goods that you can’t tell that the gluten has been carefully extracted. :) And by the by, the ladies at the shop were very kind and helpful. Definitely get your next GF or glutenous chocoholic fix here!

They created the most amazing wedding cake EVER! They took the time to make sure everything was perfect and just the way we wanted it. From consultation to delivery, it could not have been any easier. Not only was it easy, but it was very affordable. We looked at a cup cake wedding cake place, and they wanted twice the amount of money for a dense, heavy and overall lead sinker of a wedding mess on a plate.
Save your time, money and upset stomach by going to the best first!

Cake pops are fresh, moist and delicious! Huge hit at family Christmas party. Red velvet was the best in my opinion.

I tried this bakery twice. Once I sent my husband out to pick up some dessert for a BBQ I was hosting at my house. He brought back a box full of cake pops (chocolate and red velvet) and some sort of chocolate cake. Well, the cake pops tasted of freezer burn and the cake was very bland. I ended up having to rush and bake something quickly to compensate for the no good desserts. Everything ended up getting thrown out as everyone declined taking any of it home.
Because the reviews are so favorable, I decided to give it another try a few months later. This time I decided to give a variety of items a try. Most of the items in the case appeared to have water beads (condensation) on them — which leads me to think they have been defrosted from the freezer, or have been sitting for days in the refrigerator. Of the items I picked, I tried to pick items that appeared to be fresh. Most items didn’t appear fresh. The cakes looked old and dry. Of the items in the case, I picked an apple pie tart, fruit tart, banana cheesecake, four different flavors of cake pops and chocolate dipped oreos. The tarts might be the only thing I would ever purchase from there. They were average, but good. The banana cheesecake was just okay. A bit bland, and if I didn’t know it was banana, I wouldn’t know what flavor it was. Every single flavor of cake pop was bad. Each one had to be spit out. As I experienced the first time, each flavor tasted of freezer burn from the coating on the outside to the cake on the inside. The chocolate dipped oreos tasted stale.
There are so many good reviews, but in both of my experiences, nothing I purchased was fresh. I don’t think I’ll be taking another chance with this bakery. It’s a shame because I’m new to the area and can’t find a good bakery. (Perhaps the special ordered cakes are better? I’ll never know.)

Sugar Hills was the default bakery for the cake that came with my wedding catering package. So, although I didn’t technically choose to work with them, I was very happy with my experience.
The young lady we worked with at our tasting was very friendly, and we were able to do just about anything we wanted with our cake. She was very willing to give us her opinion. In this particular case, we got to choose between European– and American-​style cake. We had no clue what the difference was, and she was very helpful in getting all the details for the rest of our meal to pick a cake that would be more fitting.
We got to try everything we were interested in, and there were a lot of possibilities! I expected just the typical chocolate or vanilla cake with strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla filling, but that was not the case. We went with a cake that was 2 layers of vanilla and one layer of chocolate with chocolate frosting and strawberry frosting filling. We got a lot of compliments on how good it was.
My biggest compliment was how beautiful the cake was. I asked for a few flowers that looked as natural as possible, and they sure did deliver. When I first saw the cake from across the room, I thought they put real flowers on it!
I am gluten-​free, so I can’t attest to how the cake truly tasted, but they did offer me to deliver a piece of flourless chocolate cake for me as well (although I did pay nearly $ 5 for it). I only had time to take one bite, and it was very tasty, but extremely rich. One bite was enough (or maybe I was just sad I couldn’t have the real cake, haha).

I stop in here from time to time. Usually to pick up a cupcake or sweet snack for a friend who is celebrating a birthday or special occasion and I don’t want to come empty handed. Sometimes I’m having a crumby day and just want something sweet but can’t muster up the energy to bake at home. I like the flavors and variety of different single serving goodies and snacks they have available all the time. All kinds of cakes, pastries, macaroons, you name it. They have a lot of traditional European cakes and pastries as well. I’ve never custom ordered a cake from them, however based on the types of sweets I buy I feel they are fairly priced and deliver on flavor. Their peanut butter cupcakes are my favorite!

I had a sample of a few cakes during a bridal show (this bakery was one of the options included in our package). Needless to say I did not go with this bakery as the staff at the show were not interested in answering the questions I had for them. Also, the cake didn’t taste the best.

Not gonna lie. I used a Groupon. Again, one of those places I’ve passed many times but never stopped. Until now.
I picked up a variety of cake pops, slices of cake and a few cookies… All which were a hit at a recent birthday party. I realized I shouldn’t have put the cake pops out, something that good, I didn’t want to share!
Good bakeries out here are hard to come by sometimes and this place has certainly risen to the top five on my list.
If you need a cake, I would suggest the red velvet cake, it was absolutely sinful!
One thing, I noticed the location to check in is a «tad» off. The real location is south of 62 on 31 and be prepared, there is road construction.

This bakery has the best European recipe cakes I have ever had bar none.
The favors offered are interesting and delicate and moist. There are several small layers with special fillings between. I ordered «Hazelnut» cake two layers and one chocolate layer with the most amazing fillings. It was covered with butter cream and a dark chocolate cover over that. I ordered a 10″ square with white roses and swirls and gold leaves and little balls for four peoples’ 50^th birthdays. I had them put each person’s name on a side. They had so much fun blowing out candles at once. Many there thought it was the best cake they ever had. The young woman who assisted me had cake to taste and design books to look through. It was ready on time and perfect.

I discovered Sugar Hills Bakery because of a Groupon — we ordered a cake for my parent’s anniversary. It was absolutely amazing. The process between ordering the cake, verifying everything and then finally picking up the order was easy and amazing. They really take pride in their baked goods and we will go there for anything.
We’ve ordered several cakes along with picked up several of the 6 inch cakes for birthdays — they are now a staple for birthday celebrations in our family. We have yet to find a flavor we didn’t like.
We worked with Sugar Hills to order a cake for a bridal shower along with custom cookies in the shape of wedding cakes with the bride & groom’s initials and wedding colors. Not only did they look amazing, but they tasted amazing too!
The service is always amazing and you’ll sometimes find the owner working behind the counter to help out.
We have probably purchased at least 10 – 12 cakes from them in the past 2 years — they are now our «go-​to» bakery.
All their goodies from cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, chocolate decadent pieces and more are delicious. As I said, we have yet to find something we haven’t liked. They have a forever customer from our family!

My boyfriend bought me the special Valentine’s Day cake pops they made. A lady bug with hearts and I am not quite sure what the other creature was but it was pink and white with hearts. There was a mixture of cake pops– some with chocolate cake and others with vanilla. Both were great. They went fast when I started sharing them with my coworkers!
