Dr. Appiah’s office is a nightmare… she schedules too many people and as a result there is often sitting room only in her waiting room, a very long wait (I’ve been there almost two hours at times before being seen) and when you see the doctor, it’s clear she’s busy and wants to get on to the next patient. I can only assume it’s more lucrative to over-​schedule patients and she doesn’t care as much about patient satisfaction. In addition, on a number of occasions with me and other family members, she decided to perform a procedure on you right there and almost before you know it’s going to happen… again, I wonder about whether it’s necessary or for some other reason. My family members and I, who all used to go to her, have now found other dermatologists and experienced better service in general.

My daughter has had an ongoing problem with her scalp for almost a year. Extremely dry patches everywhere, even some parts would bleed from heavy scratches. I was so scared her hair was going to fall off in those patches. I have been to other dermatologists who would give me prescribed shampoos and advised against no hair products in her hair. Problem-​my daughter is biracial and cannot go without any moisturizer in her hair. I came to see Dr. Appiah who understood my woes with biracial hair needing hair products. She sent her scalp samples and found the problem. After vigorous oral medication, cream, and shampoo, the angels have sung and her scalp is back to normal with no hair lost!
Now the office itself? It is purple trendy. A lot of patients waiting. My wait time is probably 15 mins. after scheduled time. But it doesn’t matter anymore, her scalp is saved. Yes!!!

The medical advice I was provided with here was excellent but the office overall is rather off putting. The reception space is tough on the eyes and is trying to hard to be trendy. The office staff are a little off putting. The doctors are excellent and the office issues would not stop me from going again.

I personally did not have a good visit with this practice. Waited well over an hour to see her — they were suppose to only charge me for a microderm but they charged my insurance and the leftover to me as a consultation, which she didn’t give me (cries out fraud) — and the treatment itself wasn’t very good. Would never go back or recommend. Two stars because they used and changed gloves when seeing a patient.

I had my first-​ever appointment with Dr. Appiah yesterday. I arrived 10 minutes early (with my completed new patient paperwork in hand) to a full waiting room. After about 35 minutes, the receptionist called me up to «explain my coinsurance.» She asked me if I was there to have a procedure. How should I know? I was there to have the doctor look at a skin issue and then go from there. She said she had to ask because if a procedure were to take place at this appointment, I would be expected to pay the 15% coinsurance at this visit. WHAT??? This is totally new to me. I go to other specialists in my plan and NONE of them do this. I get a bill after they have submitted their claim to my insurance company. That’s the standard business practice, as far as know. But these people are expecting me to cough up money on the spot. Unreal. FINALLY, I’m taken back to an exam room, where proceed to sit and wait while Dr. Appiah is apparently running from one to another of about 5 exam rooms. An assistant comes in, takes down some information, asks me what I’m there for. I explain that it was to be for a couple of things, but that I only wanted one thing checked out during this visit due to their way of handling the coinsurance thing, that I would go elsewhere for the other issue. She leaves, a few minutes later someone else from her staff comes in and tells me that the coinsurance is not their policy, it’s my insurance company’s policy. I reply that I don’t have an issue with the coinsurance, but with their practice of expecting it at the time of the visit. Around 10 minutes later, Dr. Appiah finally appears. I asked her to look up the cost of the procedure she was about to perform on me so that I’d at least have some idea of what I’d shell out. I told her this was the first time I’d had to pay coinsurance up front, and she replies that her practice does that because most people don’t pay when they get a bill. Whatever. The procedure took maybe 10 minutes, I was there more than an hour. I am going back to have the stitches out in 2 weeks, and that will be my LAST time at that practice. I understand healthcare is a business, but c’mon. They made me feel like it was all about $$$$$$$$, not receiving treatment!

I went to Dr. Appiah after I found out that I wouldn’t be able to get in with my usual doctor until over a month from now and I didn’t want to wait. So, after reading mixed reviews, I decided that it would be worth a try given the fact that I was able to get an appointment as a new patient just 24 hrs. in advance (unheard of). So, I’m not sure what all of the negative fuss is about… I printed out the new patient forms and filled them out at home ahead of time. I arrived at 5:10 for my 5:30 appointment and was put into a room by a nurse (very friendly and knowledgeable) around 5:20, she then asked me all of the necessary questions to be able to brief the Dr. on my issues. I saw the Dr. at around 5:35, which as far as doctors go, is pretty timely. Dr. Appiah took a few looks at my skin, asked me some questions about my skincare routine in the present and past and decided to prescribe me two things to help me out and they were exactly what I needed. She also provided me with a coupon card that ended up saving me about $ 40 at the pharmacy. I did not feel pressured at all to make a follow up appointment like some other reviews mentioned, in fact she told me that if things go well, I don’t need to come back for at least a year. Yes, the appointment was quick, but I asked every question that I needed to and each was answered very professionally. This lady knows her stuff. If you want someone treat you with an, «awww, poor thing, that must be awful,» then Dr. Appiah is not the doctor for you. If you want a board certified dermatologist with excellent credentials who will solve your problem quickly and thoroughly with a few laughs and a shake of the hand, then you will not be disappointed.

The Bad
— If you arrive during lunch, you will wait in the hallway and there are no chairs. When attending an appointment, please be mindful of this. Don’t arrive to early if your appt is directly after their lunch hours.
The Good
— Great receptionist, very personable and pleasant
— The receptionist will go over your insurance and all of your pricing to include co-​pay ‘before’ you are taken back to see the doctor.
— Dr. Appiah is ‘excellent’. She was very honest and pleasant. I didn’t know what to expect since this was my first time meeting her. I was referred to her by a database at work. She was very personable, listened to all of my dermatology issues and discussed each one of the with me in detail.
Even though my insurance has changed [yet again], I will definitely retain Dr. Appiah as my dermatologist.
Please note: Before visiting this practice, I visited another one and was very unhappy with it’s reception area, receptionist, and the doctor. That is why I kept searching and ended up at this particular doctor’s office.
