Total Wine & More

Selections on par with other Total Wines but the staff left a lot to be desired. Maybe it was an off day but the staff I encountered were rude and not very knowledgeable. While I will continue to shop at Total Wine, I definitely will not be returning to this location.

This was my 2^nd time in this grand hall of vino, beer, and liqueur. And to be completely honest, the first time you walk into this place it’s like being punched in the nuts– it just takes your breathe away and brings you to the ground. There is SO MUCH WINE. SO MUCH. it’s both a magnificent and daunting. But let’s get on with the story.
On my second time in this store, I browsed for a short while– mentally checking off drinks i wanted to try in my head– and then eventually went on a serious search to buy a good friend a solid bottle of wine for a graduation gift. The wines are organized by type (Pinot, Cabernet, Rose, etc) and according to price (bottom shelf, top shelf, etc). A lovely Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon caught my attention, from one of my favorite regions, Alexander Valley for a very reasonable price.
I looked around a bit more, but was unable to find anything else that i thought would fancy my friend. Before leaving, i asked one of the staff if they new of any other’s similar, and after a quick walk around he wasn’t able to find any others– which was okay (although I admittedly would’ve considered throwing on 5 stars if he did).
Overall– a very pleasant experience. A fantastic selection. I will definitely be coming back for any timely wine needs.

Just wanted to send a shout out to Robin who helped me out this pass week in buying a case of wine for a party. I explained to him what I wanted (6 reds, 6 whites) and my modest price of $ 10/​bottle. He didn’t scoff at my price point or for my lack of knowledge in what to buy. He took me style by style and helped me select 5 different wines and imparted on me some quick hints for buying wine in the future! Overall a GREAT experience and a great staff!

I love Total Wine & More, they are like a candy shop for adultsl. The one on Little River Turnpike is the 3^rd one I’ve been to and it is up to par with the other 2. Clean, pleasant and knowledgeable staff, well stocked isles of delicious spirits with prices that are tough to beat. I can’t think of any way to improve Total Wine & More and whole heartily recommend them if you’re not a loyal patron already.

I have been to a massive Total Wines & More in Wilmington, DE, that will forever overshadow any others, I believe. This particular store was much smaller, but had a decent selection of wine and beer. I forgot the liquor laws were different in VA than DE, so this store can not sell liquor. The mixers they sell are so overpriced, so unless you are in a hurry, buy them anywhere else. Sales people were nice but not as willing to provide you with advice, even when ask. The cashiers and stockperson I encountered were pleasant, though.

Just moved here. Love Total but was displeased to learn that Virginia doesn’t allow Total to carry hard liquor (which is mostly what I buy at Total). They still have a great selection of wine and beer though.

Wow, this is the second time I have been here, ever, and both times there is absolutely NO toilet paper in the bathroom. And the exact same manager I spoke with about it last time, Doug – who shows how obviously concerned he is about the issue – is on duty. Way to cater to the female customer.

They have a nice selection in here. The staff is fantastic and extremely helpful. There are frequent tastings as well. Overall, just an awesome place to go to. The only issue you’ll find is the parking. This place is located in a busy strip shopping area. It’s a pain to pull into the parking and also to leave. Other than that, it’s an awesome spot.

This is the holy grail of Total Wine stores in the Northern VA area (yes, even better than the one in McLean)! I was on the quest to buy a bulk order of a specific bottle of champagne because the Springfield location right by my house didn’t have any in stock. Lo and behold, this Total Wine had plenty to sell. Win!
They have an extensive selection of beer and wine and everything is well organized by type and in alphabetical order. There are plenty of sales associates on the floor who will happily assist you. The sales associate who helped me was super friendly and didn’t mind getting my case of champagne which was situated high above the shelves.
The parking lot situation is terrible since it shares a shopping lot with several other stores and the plaza is located right in the middle of a busy intersection, but it’s a small sacrifice to make for such a great selection in products.

Great people, OUTSTANDING CRAZY selection! Need a keg or specialty beer OR wine GO HERE!!! Prices are OK but the selection is more than one could ask and the staff are out of this world.
I got my first Kegerator and they talked me through the entire process of selection and VA Laws. Great peeps!

If you are looking for that «Hard to Find» item — start here ! The selection is ASTOUNDING. The prices are GREAT, the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff is EXCELLENT
They also have bar items, and everything else that you might need to décor you wine bar at home.
Did I mention they have a reward program just remeber to sign up and they will send you coupons and discount and when you reach certain levels you simply get more, thats the part I love

This is the best store in the world. Seriously. They deserve SIX STARS.
I always liked beer, but after moving to NoVA I walked into this store and literally nearly fell over in shock and awe.
The selection is ASTOUNDING. The prices are GREAT, the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff is UNPRECEDENTED.
Because I’ve been able to build my own six packs, I have been able to sample over 500 different beers in a little over a year, and I still have hundreds upon hundreds more to try. They have samplings and classes to help you try new things as well.
I found out a neat secret about TW&M, they mark down beer that’s from the previous season so you can get some pretty good deals if you keep your eyes peeled. This is in stark contrast to unscrupulous beer sellers that maintain old stock and even sell beer that can be over a year old! TW&M seems to keep their stuff as fresh as possible, but as always, caveat emptor and check packaging dates, especially on IPAs!

The only reason stores like this stay in business is because the average American consumer does not know the first thing about wine. 66% admit they buy wine for the label. Most stand in front of the shelves thinking «red or white? (And funny enough, notice that most of the enthusiastic 5-​star reviews below are about their BEER???)
No wonder then that this store can have an «Italian expert» who once admitted to me that he got «into this just 4 years ago» (although in his 50s). Another one of my favs is a 50+ housewife who wanders around giving «advice» — and I have RETURNED EVERY SINGLE BOTTLE she recommended because she is simply pushing the stuff the store wants to get quickly rid of. In the meantime, I am avoiding crossing paths with her.
The most frivolous and actually FRAUDULENT activity this chain has to offer (across all stores I have been to) is sticking tasting cards on the shelves with point ratings that refer to a DIFFERENT VINTAGE from what is actually sold. They fully are aware what I said above, and know the last thing consumers look at is the (sometimes small printed) vintage on the bottle.
Just to clarify: A 2010 Californian is VERY different from a 2011, if not to say the opposite, even if it comes from the same vineyard and varietal. And they fully know this of course, making this INTENTIONAL FRAUD. Maybe I’ll take some pics next time and file a report with the FBI.
It’s the chain with usually the best prices and a good selection, that’s why 2 stars and not 1. Other than that, they are cheap frauds tricking their customers and employing a bunch of half-​retired bus drivers and housewives posturing as wine experts.

I admit that there are a few buildings in the world that often bring me to the verge of tears, not Old Yeller getting shot tears mind you, but more like Ralphie on Christmas morning with his Red Rider BB gun tears, Yup, The Sistine Chapel, The Sydney Opera House, Versailles, and yes, Total Wine & More have all brought tears of joy to this Unilocaler’s eyes.
Of course, the first three are understandable, but the last one may need a bit of explanation. First, there is the wine; tons and tons of wine as far as the eye can see, but since my knowledge of wine extends insomuch as white goes with fish an poultry and red goes with beef, and popcorn goes with both red and white wine, I will move to the beer. Oh, yes, a cathedral of beer, with such rare brands that my knees weakened at the sight of their rare Belgium tastiness. However, what really sold me on Total Wine was that they had Lucky Buddha Beer, a beer that comes in an artistically shaped Buddha bottle and Beerlao, a Laos beer that, until recently, could only be found in its country of origin. My six pack of Beerlao was just as delicious as I remembered, and yes, I think Laos is calling my name again.
I do suggest that you check out Total Wine’s website, for they have so many beers in this store that it is really better to go into this place with a game plan. Don’t worry, you’ll still discover a special gem like my beloved Beerlao without even trying,

Huge! Always organized. Friendly/​helpful staff. They have the biggest selection of beers and wine from all over! The boyfriend and I make monthly trips here to stock up on some yummy craft beers. We are always so pleased at the selection and have never been disappointed. We sometimes go out and eat somewhere and find a beer on the menu that we enjoy and about 99% of the time, we always find that yummy stout, porter, or ale that we so anxiously crave.
They also have a humador if you’re into cigars! Haven’t hit up that part of the store yet, but it’s pretty cool that they have one.

There are Total Wines all over the place. The ones I’m used to have liquors in them too, but I was in for a rude awakening after moving to Virginia and finding out that wasn’t a thing… Not Total Wine’s fault that Virginia won’t allow them to carry liquors.
The store was empty when I went in at 9 PM. I think my boyfriend and I were the only ones in there, minus a few workers. After wandering around for a bit to check out their selection, a worker named Robin helped us out. He explained VA laws and made a few suggestions to us. He was extremely helpful and answered all of the questions I had.
The selection was great. I didn’t check out the wine selection, though. I only looked at beers. They had a lot of domestic and imported beers that you could buy by case or individually. Like a lot of other stores, they have the option where you can build your own custom six-​pack. The prices were pretty good also. You could probably get some good deals here (especially at the last chance area, where a lot of things are marked down) but the real gem is the extensive collection.
They also had sake, sherry, and port. The sake selection wasn’t that great, and I was disappointed at the lack of made-​in-​Japan sake (there were only 2) but the selection is still better than a lot of other stores. (Unless you go to an Asian market or something like that.)
They also now have growlers available! The prices are pretty good, and they have around 10 different beers you can get in a growler. They’ll also let you sample, if you’re so inclined.

This place is fantastic. They truly have every single wine or beer in the world. I’m a Belgian beer drinker and I was unable to find any quality Belgian beers outside of Belgium until I came to this place!
The staff is exceptionally knowledgeable about the offerings of total wine and more which makes it a lot easier if you’re like me and have a problem or trouble picking out the best wine or beer to pair with food.

This total wine is HUGE. We were in the area this weekend and needed some supplies and decided to stop in instead of hitting up a grocery store.
Most TW&M’s selections are really good, but on top of the normal stuff, this one offers a huge walk in humador and a huge wine tasting room. I am impressed!
The only draw back to this location I could see, is getting in and out with the overflow from the light that backs up right in front of the store.

I. Love. This. Place.
I first found out about the glory of the Total Wine chain when my dad took my husband to one newly opened near my hometown in CT this past spring. My husband told me of the amazing selection and prices and near maze-​like construction of that particular store. And we were tickled pink to discover there were several close to DC.
This location is great. The wine, obviously, is fantastic. SO MANY OPTIONS! The beer selection is also top-​notch. I have been searching since 2008 — yeah, I know — for a store south of Boston (the only place I’ve found it) that carried Shipyard Pumpkinhead. Lo and behold, Total Wine & More has all the Shipyard Pumpkinhead I could ever want… not to mention a zillion other pumpkin brews that are so necessary this time of year.
They also have some great obscure beers that beforehand have only existed, in my mind, in my husband’s beer lore. St. Bernardus Abt 12, Lucifer ale… these babies are hard to find but yet, Total Wine has ‘em!
There are so many international brews (obviously, same for the wines) and I was psyched to see some of my favorites that I’ve never seen state-​side: Efes and Efes dark (from Turkey), Mythos (Greece) — but couldn’t find any Toohey’s (Australia).
Minus one star because we had a few questions and could not track down a sales associate to help us out. Otherwise, top notch selection and prices.

Ah… To remember my immediate post-​college days when one of my roommates and I would get up at the crack of noon on Saturdays and book it down to ‘Total Alcoholic’ from our converted doctor’s office apartment above Van Ness in DC. At that point in my life, it was the pinnacle of preparation for pre-​partying for the clubs.
As a middle-​age husband and father, it is not the existential experience it once was, but it still is impressive. The wine selection is about as varied as you can imagine, stocking varieties, like Port, that you cannot find in the supermarket. In addition, the ‘create your own six-​pack’ includes almost every beer they sell. In all, it’s a good place to do your non-​low end alcohol shopping.
As some people mention, the parking lot is terrible, but that is a small sacrifice for the amazing selection.
