Spine Care of Alexandria

SO happy with my experience here! I have been having lower back pain for about a year now that had gotten to the point of constant. I finally decided to do something about it today, was able to book an appointment very quickly, Michelle at the front desk e-​mailed me promptly to check insurance and confirm the appointment. They did not take my insurance, but, with co-​pays the way they are nowadays… I feel the deal I got was close to what I would have paid anyway! Besides, if you have real back pain, you know how much pain relief is worth!
Anyway, Dr. Connolly was great, attentive, kind, personable, and knowledgeable. He made me feel at ease and like others have posted, he really seems to enjoy his job. I feel SO much better and plan to see him again.

Dr. Connolly and the staff at Spine Care of Alexandria are fantastic. I don’t like when I have to go there, because it means I am in some sort of pain, but I know I am in good hands when I am there. I highly recommend.

I LOVE Spine Care of Alexandria!!! Dr. Connolly and his staff are the best there is! I first went to Spine Care in 2007 following an episode where my back went out on me. After suffering for several days, I realized there was a chiropractor in my neighborhood. I called and was immediately given an appointment that Thursday afternoon. My suffering was soon a thing of the past when I walked out of the office and I was back to normal within a day. To keep my back in shape, I continue to visit once a month. It is a real relief and I feel brand new following a visit to Spine Care of Alexandria.
Dr. Connolly is as personable as he is hard-​working. He and his staff work hard to make each patient feel as though they are the only one in the office even when he’s hustling between exam rooms filled with patients.
It is fortunate to have such a great chiropractor in the neighborhood!

I have been going to Dr. Connolly for appx.12 months. I had injured my back from stress. After an eight week treatment, my back felt like brand new. His staff is nice and Dr. Connolly actually has a dialogue with his patients.
I recently went back for a check up treatment, where I had soreness from my lower and upper backs. Short treatment and massage and bam, fixed. I highly recommend this practice.

A few years ago, I used to go to Skyline Wellness Center (
). And though they’re great and not too far away from my home, I wanted something even closer. Spine Care of Alexandria had good reviews and it’s walking distance for me; so I figured I’d give them a shot.
So far, Dr. Connolly and his team have been great. Michelle, the office manager and billing coordinator, helped me navigate my insurance benefits and got me scheduled for my first appointment. She seems to be very efficient and well versed in her work; and she’s friendly, too.
Dr. Connolly is very friendly, «cool,» and informative. He examined me thoroughly, educated me about my situation, and took time to answer my questions about my sciatic pain. He seems to be genuinely interested in his work and patients, and isn’t just in it for the money. He doesn’t upsell other services or products, and he’s seems interested in getting me fixed and out of there… rather than just seeing patients in perpetuity.
His office and equipment isn’t the newest stuff out there (compared to some practices that have just opened and have very new technology), but I think it’s more important the person behind the equipment matters more than the equipment itself. And a lot of those technologies haven’t been adequately studied and thus evidenced as effective. I prefer Dr. Connolly’s conservative, tried-​and-​true approach.

I am echoing other people’s sentiment about Dr. Connolly. He is great! I have been his patient since 2008. I feel better everytime after a visit to his office. The office hours are convinience to stop by after work and getting an appointment on a short notice has never been a problem.

Each time I see Dr. Connolly I have walked out of his office almost pain free. I know no chiropractor will get me 100% pain free but he is getting me close to it. I have been able to sleep and have started to enjoy the little things in life, like walking upright and bending over to tie my shoes.

I’ve been going here for more than ten years and am very happy with Dr. Connolly, Michelle and the whole team.
I tend to travel a lot, so I’ll stop in without an appointment and never have any problem getting in. He’s a great guy and a really great doctor.
Always — call your insurance company before seeking treatment. Yes, our healthcare system sucks. But you are the responsible party for any bills, so find out what your insurance covers, whether your have a deductible that has to be met as well as an annual minimum before the insurance kicks in. Insurance companies often defer claims processing for months and then you (as well as the health care provider) get hit with a denial of service.
There’s parking in front, but there are several stairs to go up.

I’ve been a patient here for over 8 years. I have been seeing Dr. Connolly since I was pregnant with my daughter. In fact, a former co-​worker of mine recommended him to me and I have had fantastic treatment and care ever since. I stopped going for a year due to some financial issues, but I just actually returned today due to a bicycle accident. Dr. Connolly is one of the most knowledgeable and specially trained physicians I have had the opportunity to meet. I only feel a 1000% better the minute I step foot out of the office. HIGHLY recommend.

I could never say anything bad about Dr. Connolly. My whole family has been seen by him and he has helped us all! Great Doctor and very knowledgeable! I would recommend him to everyone!

I have been a patient of Dr. Connolly’s for a couple of years and he has been able to provide tremendous relief for a chronic condition in my back and shoulders. He has been fabulous — he listened to my concerns and understood how to help me.
His staff, especially Michele has been fantastic! She has always been able to work me in! She has also been very insightful when I needed some help with insurance paperwork.

Dr. Connolly is a great doctor and I value the level of treatment that I received from him while I was a patient in his office. His back-​office staff were great and helped carry out my treatment well.
It was my post-​treatment experience that has left a bad taste in my mouth. Well, more than a bad taste. Let me explain…
As it was mentioned in one of the other reviews on this site, I was told my insurance would cover my treatment, and it did, for the most part. The part that wasn’t covered was held aside while I pursued a lawsuit against the driver and company of the vehicle who hit me two years ago and caused the back pain that put me in the care of a chiropractor.
While the lawsuit is still in progress today, other doctors have been patiently waiting for a settlement. Had any of them asked for payment, I would gladly pay them.
Dr. Connolly’s office didn’t ask for payment. His secretary simply sent what they perceived to be an outstanding bill for $ 300 that I was never notified about to a collections agency! Bear in mind, I check my mail regularly and have great credit so when I received a call from a collections company regarding an outstanding bill from Spine Care of Alexandria, imagine my surprise!
What I thought would be a simple call to their office to pay the bill up front and clear things up turned into an entirely unnecessary and childish exchange with Dr. Connolly’s secretary who refused to let me speak to the Dr. about the matter and refused to accept payment from me directly over the phone. I had no choice but to pay the creditor myself. How embarrassing!
Now Dr. Connolly has refused to provide simple testimony in my case that he was my primary chiropractor and that my treatment was warranted based on the injuries that I sustained! I may not be a doctor, but isn’t their credo, «first do no harm?»
I got hit by a bus and needed a doctor I could trust. If you’ve been injured in an accident and someone sends you to Spine Care of Alexandria, ask for someone else! At the end of the day, they had more of a negative impact on my stress-​related back pain than any bus could ever have.

Dr. Connelly is wonderful. He is wonderfully friendly and develops a rapier with his patients. I have been seeing him on and off for three years and I have always been pleased. Highly recommended.

I spent over 3 months going to this facility and every time (twice a week) I was told no payment and it’s all covered by the insurance.
one would assume that in the span of 3 months, the medical office would have known that I owe.
Then, suddenly out of the blue i receive a bill for over $ 200.
i thought it was unfair that they slapped me with a bill after i had been told of no payments all along.
overall I was not impressed by the Dr and the staff, hence why i stopped after 3 months of going there. they have really odd hours and the staff seems to just throw you on the machines and walk away. the Dr sees you for 5 minutes and he’s off somewhere else.
if i could go back in time, I would not do it again.

Since moving south to the DC Metro area, I’ve been lax in my workouts. My back always pays the price. It’s an old injury from hard trail running. So here I sit, again, with a herniated disc.
I’m extremely skeptical of the chiropractic field since my one encounter in Northampton MA with a well known business left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Well let me tell you, my experience with Philip Connolly D.C., D.A.C.A.N. was quite an improvement over that.
What turned me off about my old D.C. in MA was he was constantly up selling me things I didn’t need. Very expensive things. My bill for the first visit there was $ 450. Anyway, the only reason I bring this up is that you can see how skeptical that would make someone.
My experience with Philip Connolly was professional and as I expected a health care professional would act. He did a thorough assessment, and correctly identified a herniated disc and associated sciatica. I have been incorrectly diagnosed in the past by other doctors as having SIJ dysfunction.
I had a manipulation, the STEM treatment, and the back stretching thing. I will be going back to him for 3 treatments a week while I’m in town. He said I should be feeling 50% better in 3 or 4 weeks, so we’ll see. I’m looking forward to any improvement which allows me to get back into a proper workout routine. I believe not working my core muscles enough is what got me into this mess to begin with. I’m am hoping to avoid back surgery unless absolutely necessary. Right now I can barely walk. I can’t sit or sleep with extreme pain. I cannot focus on work either. My temper is short because of the pain. I’m counting on Dr. Connolly to get me past the hurt and into a good exercise routine.
Summary: great staff, quick, professional, good literature, good communication skills with patient, flexible in schedule, accepts BCBS insurance.
