Established in 2004.

Founding partners Sean P. Schmergel and Dennis M. Mersberger opened the practice over a decade ago to provide clients with a law firm that echoed the traditions of a classic boutique law practice, yet utilized modern methods to achieve the most efficient and cost-​effective results. The firm’s goal is to provide personalized attention to each client in resolving all manner of family law, traffic defense and criminal defense legal matters. Clients can expect not only zealous representation, but a commitment to resolving each case in the most efficient manner, whether in court or by negotiation.

Business Owner

Sean P. Schmergel is a native of New York and has resided in Northern Virginia for 25 years. He provides exceptional counsel in all areas of family law in Virginia and the District of Columbia. Mr. Schmergel was named a family law «Super Lawyer» in Virginia and the District of Columbia in 2014 and 2015, and was named a «Rising Star» for Virginia and the District of Columbia by Super Lawyers from 2012 – 2014. He was President of the Alexandria Bar Association in 2014, and he has presented continuing legal education courses on family law topics ranging from divorce to child support modification.

Mr. Schmergel’s practice is limited to divorce and family law, including equitable distribution of property and retirements, domestic violence protective orders, marital agreements, alimony and child support matters.
