R&B has hands down the best customer service. Daren at R&B is beyond amazing and has been with me through so many HVAC issues and has always been professional, responsive, and helpful. He has provided good advise and I can completely trust he has my best interest at heart and will always do a great job. Their work is always great and I just cannot say enough good things! I wish more businesses still operated with this kind of friendly, fair and cooperative work. They are great!

R&B replaced my house’s hot water heater. They were perfectly on time, very efficient, and highly skilled. They took the time to explain everything with the new system. I was very happy with the results. The previous owners of house also used R&B, and I will definitely be continuing to hire them for maintenance of everything.

These guys were a lifesaver. We have a 4 Monty old baby, so one Friday we woke u p and our basement had pools of water around the a/​c.. It had recently been in the 90s the day before so I knew the a/​c had been working overtime.
Really there are two things thatll have cause the problem And neither am I prepared to handle myself. We turned the a/​c off and started to call around to find an appointment.
My wife got ahold of the dispatch /​office manager at R and B and explained the situation. Also explained we had a baby and they were sympathetic, the lady explained she could squeeze us in BUT we had to be flexible with time AND answer when the technician called.
Since it was going to be in the 90s that day, and we happily agreed. She said they’d call between 3 and 7.
At 330 I got a call from the tech saying hed be there in 20 minutes. When he arrived he was very nice, used the little booties to cover his shoes when he went through the house. After diagnosing the problem he showed (and explained) to me what happened Ned, what he was going to do to fix it.
Condensator had backed up, both clogged and had a bad angle. The repair took about and hour and half total, and he even checked the system outside to make sure my coils were Ok. Very nice guy. The fee was in the mid 300 $ range, which, I expected could have been higher for a same day service. I appreciate the care they took when considering what we were going through. And would use R & B again.

I have dealt with R and B for about 5 years.
When one of their competitors told me 5 years ago that I needed a new HVAC system, for 2 completely different reasons-​6 months apart, R and B assured me that I merely needed new refrigerant, thus saving me lots of money.(When they had the perfect «opportunity» to echo the other company’s recommendations, they were honest and processional.)
Fast forward to last week when my system did need to be replaced.(A 17 year old system that had outlived its predicted lifespan by 2– 5 years. Thanks, in part, to R and B’s semiannual servicing??) I called Mike White, the service manager who initially saved me the $, and he had an estimate out to me the next day, and a team at my place within three days;They did have to order the equipment.
The team of Steve and Ray were professional and knew their stuff. They worked hard to finish the job in 2 days, and avoided making additional holes in my wall that would have required dry wall work and painting. Again, saving me $$.
I highly recommend R and B. They have integrity, know their stuff, are reasonably priced and– in my experience– are friendly and very responsive.

They made our 1898 rowhouse livable again! We have tricky high-​velocity, small duct AC system (UNICO brand) that was not sufficiently cooling our house. Another HVAC company was completely unable to deal with the problem effectively, but R&B are legit experts in this kind of system. They were responsive & did good, quick work that effectively solved the problem. It seems like it was on the expensive side, but there’s no substituting for actually knowing how to deal with this system! Worth every penny if you have a UNICO system or need to figure out how to heat or cool an old rowhouse.

I needed to replace a heat pump system leaking coolant (12-​year-​old builder’s original installation). I had to change both the rooftop heat pump and the apartment-​size wall-​mounted indoor air handler at the same time due to the outdated coolant (R-​22). I sought estimates from five HVAC companies, but R & B somehow came in significantly less than their competition.
I appreciated the salesman’s calm, friendly demeanor (Mr. David Gordon) as he explained the options for replacing the apartment-​sized system. He gave me an easy-​to-​read work proposal with a detailed description of a replacement Carrier system with some optional upgrades. He quickly answered all my questions about Carrier heat pump models, performance, and the optional upgrades. I selected the proposal for a Carrier Comfort series 14 SEER heat pump (most economical of Carrier’s three series) paired with a new apartment-​sized wall-​mounted air handler, with a new Honeywell touchscreen programmable thermostat (VisionPro 8000).
The installation team of Romàn and Tommy seemed young but proved they had plenty of experience and knew their procedures. They politely answered all my questions and worked methodically to remove and replace the indoor air handler and the rooftop heat pump. Fitting the new system challenged them but they worked hard!
I also proved a tough R & B customer that day. When Romàn and Tommy removed the indoor air handler and we saw the large amount of space to work with, I told them to stop and allow me to decide about upgrading to Carrier’s larger, premium series air handler and heat pump. Mr. Gordon drove over within an hour to discuss the new proposal and options, but I ultimately choose to continue with the more cost-​effective system. Work re-​commenced immediately and although they couldn’t finish by the end of the day, R & B sent Romàn early the next morning to complete the job.

Surprised to see the negative reviews– I interviewed a number of HVAC companies and R&B was by far the most informed, the most committed to helping me address my issues (versus getting me to buy expensive upgrades), and the most professional in all my servicing appointments.
I’ve worked with over 3 staff from R&B assess my HVAC and duct work, install a central humidifier unit, and service my heater for the winter. All staff have been extremely knowledgeable, competent, and helpful explaining what they were doing /​what I can do to maintain on my own. Will definitely stick with them going forward and would highly recommend to al.

So. I was thinking about making a switch in my HVAC maintenance provider and figured I’d give R&B a try as they’re located just down the street. When I called to make an appointment for a seasonal inspection of my A/​C, the woman who answered the phone asked about my system, and I told her that I had both central air and a mini-​split unit upstairs, and that I wanted both inspected, but that my immediate concern was the mini-​split, as it did not seem to be cooling the one time I’d tried to use it already this year. She said great, quoted me a price for inspecting both.
Fast forward to my appointment day — my appointment window was from 1−5…tech showed up at 5:30. After 15 minutes, he came to tell me that he was done with inspecting my central air, but that they «don’t work on» Fujitsu mini-​splits because they’re «difficult.» (nevermind the fact that their website says that they «service all brands of equipment.»). When I asked why I hadn’t been told that when I called to schedule, he said that the schedulers «wouldn’t know what a mini-​split is.» Okay — but at the very least you couldn’t give them a list of brands you don’t service? Especially if it’s something that’s really not that uncommon, particularly in this neighborhood? I am not a housewife, I do not regularly work from home, so it is exceedingly annoying to make arrangements to be out of the office for a day and have it be a waste. I’ll be looking elsewhere.

I tried to give them my business since they were local and had some good reviews but they weren’t very friendly on the phone. My A/​C went out today and they told me the earliest they could come out would be a few days and they couldn’t fit the appointment in my schedule.
They rudely told me that their was a $ 105 fee for them just to come out and take a look.
I think they just need better customer service. FIRST IMPRESSION goes along way!

R & B came within 3 hours on a Sun when my heat broke. The technician, Eddie, was fantastic. He fixed the heat very quickly, and then took it upon himself to spend a few extra hours at our house so as to work on the fact that our heat sounded like a freight train every time it came on. The noise had been driving us nuts but we had never bothered to have it looked at. Eddie independently observed that it was loud, and offered to work on it. He explained what was going, spent a lot of time fixing it, and the cost was very very reasonable. I went from hating our heating system to loving it. I’m almost glad it broke so that R & B had a chance to look at it!

We have a historical home and R&B have been working on our home for years. They are professional and reliable. Their preventive maintenance contracts have paid for themselves over the years. They installed a new efficient boiler and we have seen the savings. I am even able to request a specific technician and he comes to our home exclusively. No one else would do that and when I call in the office has all our notes. Customer service is exceptional.

We just had a tankless hot water heater — boiler system installed in our charming historic row house. Dale & Scott did an outstanding job on the five day install. I felt safe and was able to even leave our home periodically. Trustworthy men. They were very professional, quiet, hardworking! The ladies in the front office were very personable too. Dave Gordan the sales representative helped us in making our decision. Love the tankless hot water heater & boiler. Very efficient and quiet. Recommend R&B for all your heating and air conditioning needs! Great, caring people!

I recently had R&B replace my air conditioning in my residence, and I’m pleased with their work and professionalism. While they underestimated the time to complete the project, they respected my time and the fact that I was taking time off from work. They showed up on time throughout the multi-​day project, and they worked at a reasonable pace to get the job done in a quality manner.
There were some hiccups along the way, and the managers worked with me to perform rework and make corrections as needed. They arranged for one of the subcontractors to correct their work on a weekend, to spare me from taking off more time from work, which I greatly appreciated.
I was impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of the team, and I can confidently recommend them.

R & B heating and air conditioning was so obnoxious today, I cannot imagine anyone would want to have something to do with this company. As I told their managers and owners, they make Comcast look great.
They were rude.
They said they would come out but call first, but they did not call first and then they yelled at me.
Then, they did the exact same thing a second time in the same day!
All this after someone rushed home to meet them.
Avoid at all costs unless you like being treated like crap.

Had R&B out to do what turned out to be a simple repair to our AC unit yesterday. I had done the same repair the year before myself, but apparently the part I replaced had burned out again. The customer service was fabulous from start to finish, called at 8 am and they showed up on time and were done by 4 pm.
HOWEVER, my God are they expensive! R&B charged us $ 250 for a part which ranges from $ 20 — $ 100 online. $ 350 all told for the visit. This is more $$ than we have ever paid for a single HVAC service since living in the Nova area (8 years). We wanted to try out and support our «local» Del Ray HVAC place, but honestly, we’ll likely never use them again based on cost alone.
There are several fabulous reviews on Unilocal for HVAC specialists around Alexandria. Certainly, there has to be a better combo of customer service and price out there?! We intend to try others in the future.

I called R&B to get seasonal maintenance for my boiler, and they squeezed me in during the week even though they were clearly very busy. Other vendors were saying that next availabilities were two weeks out. Their caller notified me about 25 mins before the appt, which was well within the time range they gave me. The tech, Jon, was a great guy who walked me through all kinds of things about my boiler. I just moved into a 1950s house and knew very little about hydronic heating. He explained different valves and suggested potential projects I might consider but without being pushy or anything negative. I was very impressed and happy to see that customer service is alive and well. Truth be told, I called R&B just because I drive past them every day, but I will definitely call them again now that I know what kind of folks they have working for them. Also the final price was the same as what I was told on the phone. I know that’s a small detail, but pretty significant.

R & B is the best, we live in a very old house and they have managed to keep our ancient cooling system going with modest and affordable repairs for many more years than we expected. Thank you guys!
