Pops Old Fashioned Ice Cream

Two beautiful things: homemade ice cream and Old Town! Need I say more?
I love going for a stroll in Old Town, even if it’s 20 degrees outside, and most especially if I’m holding a cone of homemade ice cream from Pops. This spot is 2 blocks away from a $ 2.50/hour parking garage and 30 seconds away from a stop of the free Old Town trolley that departs from King Street Metro station.
I love this little shop with many flavors and that you can see them making the ice cream in the back. They are friendly and patient for people like me who want to sample every flavor and end up choosing none of the above. People behind you may be rolling their eyes at you though!
It’s a small place and they have three tables (I think), with two chairs each, and a long wall bench. With over 20 flavors to choose from, they have the options of cup, cone, or waffle cone, and even a complimentary tank of water for self-​serve. They also make shakes and smoothies, which I have also tried, and I love the cookies and cream shake!
I can vouch for flavors like: rocky road, cookies and cream, vanilla snickers, butter pecan, coconut, black raspberry, and some other original flavors that I can’t remember the names of. It may be a little on the pricey side but we don’t care because those scoops of sweetness bring so much joy to our lives!

Came in after I already had The Creamery ice cream from across the street. I ordered a few samples to try, but the flavor was just not there. Their ice cream also had this strange perfume after flavor and I did not try anything exotic… I sampled Vanilla, for example.
The good thing about this place is that you can see them making ice cream in the back, and they had loads of flavors and choices to choose from propbably better for kids, who just want their ice cream loaded with candies and cookies.
However, as an adult, I was sadly disappointed. And walked out after sampling their ice cream. I actually did not even finish my sample that is how much I did not enjoy it.
The place was clean and the employees were friendly, but the quality just was not there for me. I gave three stars because of this and their large selection, but I will be going to The Creamery across the street when I am back in Alexandria.

This place is adorable. They have real quality ice cream and there are endless flavors to choose from! I got 2 scoops, one banana, one coconut cinnamon cracker and boy was I pleasantly surprised. I can honestly say that was the best ice cream I’ve ever had! My dad got rocky road and my boyfriend got chocolate and cookie dough. We left happy :) will definitely return.

We came to DC for just a couple days and last night we got to take a stroll through old town, absolutely beautiful. It’s Christmas time and the trees were all decorated with lights and many of the stores were decked out also. Pops was beautifully decorated and the ice cream was very tasty. I have to admit we had planned on going to Ben and Jerry’s but it was closed. We were happy we went to Pop’s instead.

I stopped here for some ice cream on Sunday (12÷13÷15) and I had no idea that they had so many different selections. They worked quickly (as the store was nearly empty) and let us try whatever we wanted. I will be back!

Maybe a little steep on the price, but man, it was good!
It looks like there were over 50 flavors from which to choose, so I can’t imagine anyone ever burning out.
One scoop was plenty big, so I can’t imagine two scoops, even though it is just a dollar more.
A bonus is that it is about 200 feet from one of the trolley stops on King Street.

Ridiculously pricey and yet taste blah! Nothing special!

The ice cream is delicious. We have been here several times and there is always a line but it moves quickly. I got the peanut butter sundae and it was heavenly.
I must say: The restroom at this place is a lawsuit waiting to happen, as the floor was wet and slippery and it was gross and dirty, but in Old Town if you gotta go, you gotta go as there aren’t many public restrooms to be had.

Good, but really expensive. Your service and size of scoops can also really vary depending on who is working.
I do not like that they limit you to trying two flavors when they have such an expansive selection. I would want to try more. With that said, I do like the ice cream. I could also just buy a pint of Ben and Jerry’s for cheaper, though.
I am still pro-N’icecream and Trickling Springs Creamery all the way. For the same price, I definitely prefer these.

My wife and baby girl recently visited Pops and after waiting in line for nearly 15 minutes and watching the painfully slow, disinterested and lazy service of the 3 or 4 young men behind the counter we decided to abandon our place in line and head across the street for our ice cream. (there are at least 3 ice cream shops in that general area near the water)
The employees were spending more time chatting with each other and gazing out the front window than helping service customers.
The final straw that sealed the deal for us leaving was that the manager, clear with his fancy ear piece in, walked from the back through the front service area and made no comment or improvement to the teenagers service behind the counter. It was clear from his demeanor he would have preferred to be doing something else.

It was my first time in Pops ice cream shop and was truly intrigued by all the flavors served here. To begin with, there was such a long line, I was already super excited to try their ice cream. I got four cups, 1 for me and 3 for friends. 2 black raspberry which was really yummy and 2 salted caramel macchiato. The salted caramel macchiato was too salty to the point I couldn’t taste anything but saltiness. So make sure you try the flavors before getting them but overall it was good! Recommend!

Tons of flavors and really good ice cream. Had the peanut butter, chocolate pretzel. Quite delicious, but $ 5 for one scoop seems like a lot. Cheaper propotionally if you get more, but still. Place was clean and service was friendly. Good on a hot day!

The ice cream good at Pop’s. The chocolate peanut butter and the salted caramel were good. We were both very happy with our choices.
There was a big pier at the end of the street with all the shops and restaurants and we sat and watched the water and the boats for a bit. Very relaxing. (the Potomac river)

Three scoops. YESSSSS. First time trying this place and it was legit ice cream. It was 10pm on a Friday night and there was still a line of people inside! Luckily the line moved fairly quickly and we were able to try several different flavors before settling for S’mores, Heathbar coffee, and Strawberry ice cream. All were super tasty but the smores was disappointing because it didn’t really taste like smores. Three scoops (large) was plenty for me and my bf to share but next time I will try it in a waffle cone!

I loved this place! There were plenty and I mean plenty of of flavors to choose from.
I got the mint chocolate chip which I recommend and my boyfriend got some concoction of cookie dough, chocolate chips and brownies so there was a lot going on in his waffle cone. I tried his and yes it was what you can imagine it being; heaven.
The staff is over accommodating and make it that much more of a great place.

This place has so many fun flavors! I was only able to try their Cleveland Brownie and Peach, but I would like to go back to try their Red Velvet and Cavity!
The interior of this place is adorable, the whole old fashioned feel and their heart shaped seats. Fun pops of red and white.
Customer service could be friendlier and it could be a little cleaner. But I can totally imagine this shop getting quickly filled during the summer. Very cute concept and interesting flavors!

Yum! I’m always in for ice cream, but places like these get me really excited.
There was a pretty long line when i went, which clearly means it’s worth it. There are so many unique flavors, and the staff is very helpful and upbeat.
I tried the chocolate pretzel and it was delicious. The scoops are huge and the cones taste like they were just baked.
I will definitely be back to try more flavors.

great place to get ice cream on king street. There are a TON of flavors to choose from along with a few different cones/​cups. Inside is old fashion red& white, inviting. The price is around the same as cold stone, but I would go with this!

After a full belly from Fish Market, I forced my tummy towards the shop next door… yup, I had walked by Pops several times but had never tasted their goodies.
With several ice cream places within walking distance of each other, I really wanted to try this place. There were 2 people working but only one of them was helping the 3 customers in the store.
We asked to taste a couple of flavors, and decided on our flavors. The ice cream was not the smooth, fresh tasting ice cream that I had expected from a place called «Pops»…instead it tasted like ‘old ice cream that was sitting in the freezer for weeks’. I tried, honestly, to like the ice cream but with Ben and Jerry’s just feet away, how could I love something that did not taste like fresh made ice cream.
The lack of customer service didn’t help my cause. With only one person helping customers while the other person was working on other things, it doesn’t cause me to bump up the stars.

You have to come and try their ice cream. When you walk in you can see them making the ice cream through a glass wall and they have so many flavors to choose from! They give you soooo much. It feels like one scoop is a double scoop because they pack the ice cream into the cone!
I would recommend that you try their peanut butter chocolate cover pretzel. This was so amazing inside of a cake cone. It was sweet and salty at the same time. I loved how the ice cream had crunchy pretzel pieces in random bites. It was filled with the chocolate covered pretzels. The fact that it had peanut butter in it made it that much better. It was a unique ice cream flavor and very memorable! Try itttttttt you will not regret it!
I also tried their cookie and cream, which was amazing too!
