Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry

No use for these people. Called for an appointment, was given a time to come, but when I go there, I was told to wait and they would call me. Then when a checked in another 20 minutes, I was told they did not have a record of my appointment. After taking off of work and driving through Rte 1 traffic. I will never use these people again. The office staff was lackadaisical at best, dismissive at worst. There are plenty of substitutes, I would not bother.

This review is for Dr. Christina Giles, O. D…I never thought I would say this about an optometrist… but I love Dr. Giles. She is always so friendly, personable, but yet extremely thorough and professional. I would rather a brusque doctor who is competent than an overly nice one who doesn’t do a good job, but Dr. Giles is both competent and warm! She takes her time explaining any questions you may have and is just so patient in general. She is also very thorough. Even though I am low risk and very young… when she saw I might be developing glaucoma she made sure to take precautions by having me do the necessary tests and to check in with me after a few months. It wasn’t about trying to make money — it was truly her doing an amazing job. I cannot say how much I enjoy my experience — and to top it off she always so fashionably dressed! The front desk staff and the optometrist helpers are just ok — not always so friendly. The other added bonus is the young gentlemen who helps you with the frames in the front. I think his name is Chris? There is an older woman and gentlemen who are there sometimes and they aren’t so great but «Chris» is soooo patient with you, he remembers you even after a year, and gives honest and tasteful feedback on frame choices.

I have lived in California and Colorado recently moved back to Virginia where I grew up I was looking for a place that I would like as much as I did in California and Colorado.
I was nice to find a place that I liked the same as those places. I used to live in VA many years ago and am back again. Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry was just as wonderful as they were. I highly recommend them.

I’ve been coming here for years and the entire staff is super. The receptionist didn’t bat an eye earlier today when I forgot my insurance card, the technician who administers my tests always seems to remember me and my wife, the eyeglass specialists always do whatever they can to make sure my glasses fit properly and they help me pick out an affordable pair, and Dr. Giles is phenomenal. She explains everything and lets me ask whatever questions I need to. I highly recommend this location to anyone who wants exceptional care from a solid team.

They provide a decent service. They can rush you and may be a little chaotic.

They were prompy with my appointment and everything went well. The team is very nice. It is a very busy office, but I can understand why. They are punctual, but take their time with patients. Overall, a very good experience.

Let me start by saying this is one of the best exams I’ve ever had. I saw Dr. Smithson, and he was great! Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration run in my family, and it was great how thorough he was with his exam. Also, I expressed my interest in lasik eye surgery, which he went into great detail with me. He referred me to a surgery center and gave me a packet of information on it. The staff was also very helpful and informative. The guy that helped me pick out my frames (I didn’t catch his name) was very nice and was not pushy on frames that were out of budget. Overall, I had a great experience and will be back

It is conveniently located in Belle View Shopping Center, near our home, has great office hours, great staff, thorough and efficient services. I’d happily recommend them to friends and anyone who needs eye doctor referral.

We have been patients of Dr. Linda Miller for years. She and the other docs at NOVA Doctors of Optometry are all top notch. You’ll get great care here.

Very pleased with NVDO. I was able to get an appointment within just a few days of calling to schedule. I was seen fairly quickly after arriving for my annual eye exam. The doctor was friendly and efficient. While I waited for the eye drops to work I was able to check out their selection of glasses and speak to a rep who helped me price everyhting out with my insurance. She was SO helpful and friendly! At the end of my appointment I was given information on how to access their patient portal which allows me to schedule everything online. So convenient! I will definitely be returning.

The doctor was friendly and the check up itself was fine. However, just be warned that they charge extra for getting a contact lens check up.
When they asked if I wanted to get the contacts check up there was no mention of the additional charge, leading me to think it was part of the routine exam. Turns out this costs more than the $ 40 eye exam and probably doesn’t entail much more either.
$ 95 for a quick check up and few pairs of trial contacts (not including the 100+ my insurance already covered)? That is a complete rip off.

On my third visit to get glasses that work. Not impressed. They seem more interested in selling add ons than getting me into a pair of glasses that work for my needs.

I am new to the area and was looking for a good optometrist office where I could get a comprehensive exam and update my prescription, mainly because I was on my last pair of contact lenses and needed to re-​order. I’ve been wearing glasses and contacts for almost 20 years, so I am used to these kinds of appointments!
Before the appointment: Their online system made it so easy to make an appointment, and I was able to give 3 preferred dates/​times online. I received a prompt response with a scheduled appointment (within maybe an hour or two), and I exchanged all of my insurance information via email. I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Bloom within 2 days and on a Saturday, to boot, which was needed due to my work schedule.
At the appointment: After filling out some paperwork, I was quickly attended to by the clinical technician, who was wonderful. Especially as a new patient, I appreciated how she explained everything she was doing beforehand. She was very pleasant and attentive. Dr. Bloom saw me soon after and was very thorough, particularly because I was a new patient. She was very up-​front with me, telling me some basic information about my dry eyes that no other optometrist in the past had told me. She tested a new contact brand that she would suit me better, then and there. She also gave me another trial pair of contacts, along with 2 samples of eye drops and 2 samples of new contact solution that would better fit my needs. Again, very friendly and accommodating to the fact that I was in dire need of re-​ordering my lenses.
I am going to call today to order my new lenses after trying the samples for a couple of days. I was told that the contact lenses might be in stock and ready that day, or they would have to order them and could deliver them straight to my house within 3 – 5 business days. That is perfect for me, as I live about 20 minutes away and do not utilize my car often.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Dr. Bloom and Farah, the clinical technician!

I have been trying to look for a good optometrist office in the area since last week, and have just returned from a morning out, including a visit to this office.
I had a very pleasant experience, from the moment I walked in to the second I walked out.
On arrival, I was greeted almost immediately by a young chap named Matt. He was courteous, and was quick to ask a few pertinent questions to determine my need.
He had trouble finding my insurance details, but along with a young woman at the reception desk, both were able to confirm the information, and wrote it down for me. The insurance itself had apparently assigned me a «unique» ID number that did not come up immediately in query search, but again, they resolved it super-​quick.
I explained that before I committed to an appointment, I was hoping to find a frame or two to help me decide whether or not I wanted to buy a complete pair of glasses from them. He was very obliging, and he invited me to take a seat at a desk area while he browsed the displays for me. He returned quickly with several sample frames, and he had me try them on, explaining features, quality, cost etc.
He helped me narrow down to a few frames, and enocuraged me to have a look myself in case I spotted something he may have overlooked, and added that he would be happy to check his inventory for additional colors, availability etc.
Magic.
I did bring over a couple, and he offered his opinion on which was a better fit, etc. Again, very polite and efficient.
He then offered to write down the frame model numbers, along with prices, in case I returned, or ended up going to another optometrist’s office, and wanted to find the same frame there!
I explained I needed to check my work availability before I committed to an appointment date to get my eyes tested — I had hoped to have been able to just ‘walk-​in’ this morning — and return another day. He was thorough and explained what my vision insurance would and would not cover, and encouraged me to phone back with any questions or concerns.
And that was it.
I have an idea now of what I will be out of pocket, and what types of frames I can compare to when I visit other places.
All of this within a 30 minute visit.
I will be visiting other places to compare prices, but I have to admit that I was very impressed by the customer service at this NVDO office location. I feel positive that their doctors will also be friendly and professional, so I am definitely looking forward to another visit soon.

Great office, doctors and service! Took my niece in for a general exam. As soon as we were done filling out paperwork they were ready to see her. Dr. Bloom was great. Explained everything as she did the exam. Office was very clean and ran efficiently even though it was very busy since they happened to be having a Trunk Show for Maui Jim that day. Would definitely recommend to anyone. I especially like that you can just use their website to set up an appointment. Its so much more convenient than having to make personal calls while at work. They also have convenient weekend hours which I much appreciated.

I would love to take credit for the discovery of this optometry gem, to say that I was a genius and that my research paved the way for its discovery, but the simple fact is that I just stumbled upon it by chance. At the time I was certain that I was going blind, for I could no longer see the words page, and sometimes my takeout menu seemed a little blurry.
I stepped through the doors to discover that the doctors here treat some pretty famous sports stars in our area. I reasoned that if they could help star athletes with their eye-​hand coordination, surely they could help save my razor sharp video game vision which had brought many a troll, dragon, zombie and space alien to its end. I will admit that I was nervous that day and was dreading the verdict. When it came I was stunned:
«What do you mean I need reading glasses?»
«It is not a big deal,» my doctored smiled, «Everyone gets them eventually.»
«Well, I guess I missed that memo.»
A few more minutes of coming to grips with my mortality, and the doctor informed me that my eyes were in pretty good shape, that reading glasses were a natural progression in everyone’s existence, and that even Superman’s alter-​ego wore them (Ok that was for a pretty crappy disguise, but I’ll take it). Since then I have been a loyal customer, and have found this office to be the most professional and knowledgeable of any in the NOVA area. Truly, this is the one place in the area where you should get your eyes examined; in fact, I’m pretty sure Superman would go here if he needed glasses, but then again, maybe Clark Kent already does?

The people who work here are nice, responsive, and VERY good at selecting glasses styles. They really took a long time looking for different frames and learning what I was looking for, and they found me the perfect pair. I see well, and love love love these glasses. They also suggested a better fitting contact lens, for which I am grateful. They also got me to change the lenses every two weeks… a fundamental rule of disposable contacts of which I have been in flagrant violation.
Great optometry practice.

I had a great experience at Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry. The entire team was helpful and thorough. Convenient location too. I would highly reccomend Dr. Giles. She made me feel comfortable through the entire visit and she stopped to explain anything that I had a question about. I also loved that they had availability for a 6:00pm appointment — so convenient!
I would certainly reccomend this office to anyone looking for a great optometry experience!

The last phone call: I called to see if it were time for an appointment. Waited on hold for a couple minutes, then she comes back and asks my name. So I give her name and DOB. She curtly states ‘You’re past due. You were due back in September’. Before I could schedule an appointment or say anything, she HANGS UP!
Um ok. No reminder card. No time to schedule an appointment. This was the last straw.
My initial visit was along these lines. The doctor rushed me along and offered very little information. I wear glasses and now contacts more and more. She gave me a contact prescription but no instructions on the handling of the contacts. Needless to say I had problems. Turns out I was using the wrong solution to clean my lenses and there were issues from that. Apparently, the lenses I had were extra sensitive and required special cleaning techniques too. It was when I went back from having problems and saw another doctor that I learned of this. I requested to go back to the brand I had before (from another doctor in Leesburg) and was told no. They said they were getting rid/​discontinuing that brand and I couldn’t have them anymore. Even though I had no issues and loved them. (BTW – can STILL 2 years later buy my old brand on 1−800-contacts website).
Continued to have problems. Went back a few times. They were very dismissive. I have allergies/​sinus problems, which complicates my contacts. Finally tried a brand that was sooo comfortable. The doctor, original doctor, was shocked they ‘fit better than the others’. Duh. Therefore, there WAS a fit problem on top of everything else.
I’m done here. This place is literally 5 blocks from my house. I can walk in 10 minutes. Despite their proximity – leaving.
