MODE4 Architecture

We’ve worked with Chris Tucker on two projects: one in 2005 for a two-​story addition, and this one in 2014 for a bathroom renovation, a screened porch addition, and replacement windows on our 1920s American Foursquare. In the initial design stages, Chris listened to our needs and gave us several options covering different price points and levels of detail. He suggested further ideas that we hadn’t considered. He is very thorough in his designs and drawings. He explained very technical archetectural concepts to us in layman’s terms. He knows the local city requirements well. He worked well with both us and the builders, from deadlines to onsite detailing. He has a very calm demeanor in what can often be hot situations, but he’s firm and very fair.
I love our new bathroom. With Chris’s help, we designed an extremely functional yet attractive second bath out of a tiny space. Two of my favorite details are the addition of a skylight in this interior room — Chris’s idea, and it’s fantastic! So much light — makes the tiny room feel spacious. The second is a linen closet created from increasing the thickness of the space between the hallway wall and the bathroom wall (already increased some from installing a pocket door to replace the swing door) to make room for a linen closet.
The design and implementation of the screened porch was equally as thorough and creative, including maintaining the integrity of the four-​square style, so as to not be an eyesore in the neighborhood, while including modern touches like LED lighting, skylights, and celing fans. It is a beautiful addition to our home.
The bottom line: we would, and we will, use MODE4 for a future project.

We have worked with Chris Tucker on several projects over the last ten years. The most recent project was a rear screen porch and patio. After listened to our desires to reclaim our back yard from the mosquitos, Chris designed a slightly modern outdoor entertaining space off the back of our traditional 1920s American Foursquare. The results were the blend of the traditional screen porch (beadboard ceiling, ipe flooring) with modern features (recessed LED lighting, ceiling fans, all-​weather speakers) creating a perfect bug-​free entertaining space. Completing the project is a small patio containing a couple of chairs and our grill. We could’t be happier with the way the project turned out!
While the project went slightly longer than expected (don’t they all!), the quality of the design and construction were worth the extra few weeks. Chris was very good at keeping us appraised of the progress during all phases of the project (design, permitting, change orders, inspections, etc.), answering our questions and concerns about building process, and incorporating our changes during construction. We will certainly use Mode 4 Architecture and Chris Tucker for any future projects at our house!
