History

Established in 2011.

**New Ownership — Family Owned and Operated** As of December 2011, we are proud to announce new ownership and new management of the Yates Kingstowne Car Wash and Convenience. The Yates family has been serving Alexandria for over 47 years and Kingstowne for over 15 years. Our car wash has been completely upgraded and is now state of the art. We offer complimentary wipe down service with the purchase of a Deluxe or Ultimate wash and offer premium Rain-​X, Blue Coral and Black Magic products. We have also added hundreds of new products to the Convenience store including new beer and wine selections as well as snacks, groceries and much more.

Business Owner

Jason Yates, youngest of 5 sons of John and Lena Yates, spent his whole life growing up around the family business with his parents and brothers. He has always been interested in go-​carts, cars and motorcycles; basically anything with an engine on it! As a child, Jason would ride with his father to the station on a daily basis where he worked every summer and after school as he got older.

By 1980, Jason returned to the present Braddock Road location where he has been for the past 30 years building the business with his wife, Loren. His son, Jason, Jr., recently graduated from the University of Virginia and is also working in the family business.

I’d give no stars if I could! Absolutely terrible! The back of my car looked untouched. The dryer portion barely did anything! Don’t waste your money!!!

Bringing my vehicle for a wash… I usually do my washes myself but today was a really long day so decided to bring my vehicle for someone else to do it for me… I paid for the Yates Deluxe and Dash Cleaning with interior Window cleaning… I have a major fear going to car washes because the machines never wash good although you pay for their top of the line there is always something not cleaned good to specs or how they claim… So i go through the was and my car is making a huge scratching noise (i did t go not even ten seconds in the ride) so I started to honk like crazy to get the gentleman attention and he stopped the wash and said is everything ok? And i told him the car is scratching like crazy whats going on and he laughed and responded oh well you and your wife have to get off the vehicle its weighting the car down! So wtf? I was upset but my wife was even more so upset… So we got off i kept calm and waited in the other side… When we got there the car was still semi dirty bird poop was still in the roof of the car I brought it to their attention and all the young gentleman said there is nothing i can do so he said its done you can go! And i held him and said hold on wait a minute? I ordered deluxe wash with interior wipe and interior window cleaning its far beyond done so i waited 10 minutes to go back and forth with the young guy until he decided to do it… Very unhappy with my visit and even the kids that were cleaning the windows didn’t want to clean the main window just the sides… And they even forgot to do my rear window… First and last visit!

Very poor experience. Paid $ 29 and left with a still-​dirty car that looked like a vacuum hadn’t touched it. Only it was vacuumed, because they shoved them into the front seat of the car while I was still in it and I had to ask them to let me unbuckle myself and get out of the car. The dashboard wasn’t cleaned properly. I didn’t have a chance to say anything to them about my car because they pointed at me to take it, waved me away, and started working on a new car before I even got back in mine. I understand the need for fast service but at the expense of quality? No. Very disappointed – I won’t be coming back.

As I was driving into the car wash I was on my cell phone. There are no signs to get off your phone so the men starting banging on my car and my car window. One of the men was the owner, Yates. I couldn’t believe an owner of a business would do this. I don’t want to go back. No one should be screamed at like that.

Great quick car wash (got pretty much all the caked on bugs off my car after driving 11 hours from Tennessee). Great service and quick detailing services. The staff was very attentive and 3 – 4 people were working on my car to get it done. It’s not like a dealership detail, but you definitely get your money’s worth if you get the $ 29 wash and detail package. Don’t forget to Tip for good service!

Over the last few years, I have been to this place a handful of times. It’s either a hit or miss for me. The location is great but my experiences have not warranted my return so today I thought…“let me give it a try.” It’s early morning and I want to treat my car to a wash and detail… something I haven’t done for over a month. I get the $ 29.00 car wash and this time around I’m hoping for a great job but alas once again the job is subpar. I have four… four guys working on my car. I am the only client at the carwash so I figure naively so that my car is going to be nicely done… not. The mirrors in the visors are not wiped, there is a dirt spot clearly visible in a swiped fashion on my rear seat that is not touched and get this… the trash on the floor is picked up and shoved into the side panel on my door! Are you kidding me?! I called one of the guys over just before I left to ask for a wet cloth. I paid a lot of money as far as I am concerned for not only the wash but to wipe down the interior. As I opened my door and told the guy the dirt wasn’t wiped off, he told me if I wanted the seats wiped I could have asked and they would have done it. He stated that some people don’t want their seats wiped and get mad. Well… thats a new one on me! Never had to ask before! All I can say is, «I tried.»

This experience was one of the worse car washes I’ve ever had in the area. the car wash doesn’t even wash dirt or dust off your car it only coats your car in water and expects the people who wipe down your car to actually clean clean it. this is very wrong when you pay upwards of $ 30 top line car wash and also pay for vacuuming your car. the only reason this car wash got one star was due to the Car Wash Employee being truthful and saying that the brushes we’re bad also the person who did the vacuuming did a pretty good job. so please save your money or go to a better car wash or do it at home because you would do a better job.

Great price point as far as cash goes. $ 29 for the whole shebang. BUT cash is not the only cost for this place.
Very disorganised and the staff was more interested in chatting up the customers than putting the moves on their work.
In a nutshell, if you’ve got an hour for a car wash and vacuum then have at it!
Suggest you be the first in line at the 7sm start.

The Wash was fine, but my wife accidentally gave the cashier $ 5 bucks too much and asked if he could check and return it if she did, he said «I wouldn’t try to cheat you,» and would not check if he had received several new bills that were stuck together. She did not accuse him of cheating her, she made a mistake and asked him to check. So there are plenty of other car washes that treat their customers better. Will not return.

This is an excellent place to get fueled (both your car and your person) if you happen to be in the Kingstowne area (or you just need some midway on your I-​95 journey).
Came here recently to fill up my tank and grab a few snacks to go. The place was very nicely presented for the holiday season and I appreciated how clean the place was. The selection of convenience goods inside was very impressive, and I availed myself of a few of their food choices.
What I was most impressed with here was the service. I was helped by two gentlemen (Sergio and Will) at the register who were extremely polite, and who offered to make me a fresh batch of coffee if I was in need of it (I didn’t happen to be at the moment, though I very much appreciated the offer). They quickly helped me with my purchase and I was on my way.
Normally you have a 50⁄50 shot at any gas station of having a good or bad experience. This place is a welcome exception to that rule. I will definitely be returning.

If you are totally into the cashier totally ignoring you to watch the documentary on «Sugar Babies» going on behind him, so much he doesn’t even bag your several cold drinks, you will LOVE this place.

Very surprised that inside this convenience store is a treasure chest of quality alcohol to purchase. There are craft beers, make your own 6 packs, and wine in addition to the usual gas station goods. I ended up purchasing a 4 pack of mead from Oregon (this is crazy talk I know but true — I am attaching photographic proof). Where they lost marks was the fact that at 2 in the afternoon there was not a hot dog, donut, pizza, or other non-​quality hot food staple available for consumption. They need to get on point with this!
If this mead is good, I may be back.

Definitely not like the one on rt. 1! Wash attendants seem lazy and don’t take pride in their work. Ensure you have a fresh coat of wax on your vehicle, because they take what looks like a push BROOM to wash the light dust off your car! I tried it, I won’t be back.

Having been to many car washes this one has a good review due to customer service. I had ALOT of bugs on my car pre-​wash and noticed a few weren’t removed. I made mention of the issue and they scrubbed my car down and had me go through the wash again. Car came out great, clean, and shiny.

Well worth it, turned my urban camo car back to normal after all the salt and grime was gone. Great interior job on the carpets and other parts if the interior. Quick process which included a short wait. Going back at the end of winter.

After the snow had melted off from the big snow storm, I gave my car a quick wash to get all of the salt off of the exterior. However, I was still worried about the salt up in the undercarriage so I took my car here. I was told that a wash that cleans the undercarriage would cost $ 16. Seems a bit pricey, but I paid.
When I got the car home, I found it absolutely covered in grime. It was absolutely filthy with soap scum and salt. I took pictures, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to attach them to the review. If any Unilocalers would like to see them, let me know and I will gladly send them your way.
Long story short, if you want to pay $ 16 to add salty film and soap scum smeared all over your car, then I cannot recommend Yates more strongly. If you’re looking to make your car CLEANER, then I would recommend going elsewhere.

The Roadbeast gets a wash and wax for just under $ 30.Yup, deluxe service, Unilocal friends, nothing but the best for my 1989 Crown Vic LX (original paint and interior). Yates did a pretty good job of making my throwback ride pop just like Starsky and Hutch’s Torino. Ok, maybe it looks a little more like Huggy Bear’s 76 Continental, but the boys at Yates car wash made my classic Roadbeast shine with a nostalgic glow that can only be rivaled by TV. I only wish that they included a vinyl roof treatment with their service, for that would have really been a five star experience.
