Hsbc National Bank USA

I’m seriously not a bad review writer… but this bank is the most awful bank ever! Every interaction I have had with them besides the typical withdrawal is absolutely painful and it honestly doesn’t matter whether it is the phone customer service or the in-​branch staff — everything is 10 times harder than at any other bank I’ve ever dealt with. Today’s saga, name changes and notarization — FYI — apparently although it is plenty of ID to change your name with the DMV and everyone else on the planet — a photo ID plus social security card, plus marriage certificate is not enough to get your name changed on your bank account — you need a bank card from a different bank in order to change your name… insane, what if this was your only bank? To top it off, the clerk/​notary who agrees to notarize a document for me points me to the wrong signature spot — I sign, and upon realizing its the date blank instead of the signature blank, informs me she cannot notarize it, even if I mark through and initial, she can’t notarize a scratched document. I’m a lawyer and I know things are scratched and initialed on documents daily. Anyway, this is literally the type of thing that happens every time I deal with this bank. I will be quickly spending my credit card rewards and closing my accounts.

Friendly staff and prime location for a bank. Any time I have handle a transaction here the clerk is always attentive and manages my transaction quickly. The only problem is the hours of operation. Unless you’re working from home or in Old Town its difficult to visit the bank during 10−4pm Monday through Friday. I’ve been told that you can handle your own transaction during non bank hours at the atm, but call me old school there is something strange about handing over a check to an atm machine or sending a image of one.

This has got to be the worst bank in the world. They have horrible and I mean *HORRIBLE* APR rates for savings accounts. Every time I turn around I receive an email notice telling me that the APR has dropped once again. In the past month, it has dropped 3%.
I have decided to close the account, since I found a better one (hooray for Ally!) but to hell if I can get a hold of live person on the phone. Their 800 numbers are ridiculous. The automated system is useless and frustrating. Ally Bank offered to assist in close the account but couldn’t get a hold of HSBC! Are there even real people working for this company, or is it a bunch of obsolete computers?
If you haven’t signed up for HSBC, don’t. Go to Ally or some other bank.
If you have HSBC, good luck on getting help when you need it.
