We’re a bookstore that specializes in children’s books. We also carry games, puzzles, puppets, plush and toys. Because parents read, too, we carry a selection of grownup titles as well as parenting books. Please check our website, www. hooray4​books​.com, for author visits, storytimes and other special events.

History

Established in 2008.

There has been a children’s bookstore at 1555 King Street for over 20 years. Hooray For Books! replaces A Likely Story, a long-​time Old Town fixture, and we hope to continue serving Alexandrians for another 20 years.

Love this store! I’ve been there a few times to buy books for my favorite little ones and each time the kids are thrilled with the selection. Service is well-​informed and very helpful. I enjoy patronizing this establishment because I know that the kids will enjoy their gifts. This is a bit of a blast from the past because it’s a bit uncommon to find a real bookstore with great service these days. I highly recommend buying books for the children here.

Hooray for Books is truly a gem. If you’re in need of birthday books for a niece or neighbor, hit up this locally owned, quality book store in Old Town Alexandria.
Hooray for Books is the type of bookstore that’s suitable for infants-​teens, with a pretty good, albeit small, offering of specially selected adult books. They feature free story times each week, and even have a popular YA book club.
I’m an early childhood consultant and teacher in grades PK-​4th, and the variety and quality they offer is hard to beat. Every time I visit Hooray for Books I can find well written, Caldecott-​medal award winning books, New York Times best sellers, and classic little golden books to round out my home and work libraries. I’m happy to buy them from a locally owned business. Service is swift, helpful, and non-​invasive. Check it out!

Adore this place. Really great selection, and their free story times are terrific. They’ve got some puzzles and other toys, and some adult books as well. But books for young children are the main attraction here. Helpful and knowledgable staff.

Super cute bookstore for kids. Loved the selection. They offer story time several times a week.
Bonus points — they have story time for children under 2! My toddler loved listening to the stories and signing along. Perfect for a Saturday morning.
Great place to pick up a gift. They offer free gift wrapping and the wrapping paper is adorable!
Only downside was the limited (metered) street parking.

A great little children’s bookstore in Old Town Alexandria. I went for a book signing by one of my favorite authors. It was very crowded and the room the signing took place was very, very hot. There really wasn’t an organized system for getting the books signed and it felt a bit frantic. But, it was good to see a specialty, small business children’s bookstore doing well and that the kids enjoyed and were excited about! The employees were friendly, but it was so busy with the crowd it was hard to have a conversation with them about the store itself.

I love that a children’s bookstore filled the space of a former children’s bookstore. Some of the employees are the same as well. The selection is good, there are some gaps, however overall it’s a good place to find great kids books and «things». The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Check it out!

Great place for children’s books; very small «grown up» book section. I’ve been in several times with my toddler and never regret the time or money we spend here. Friendly knowledgeable staff + convenient restroom + lots for small folks to look at = a successful outing.

What a great find! This place is located directly across from the Lorien Hotel and provides French storytelling for kids on Monday evenings. Owned by people who have a true appreciation for reading and literature, the staff was helpful and friendly when I dropped in searching for a good surprise gift for my two-​year-​old daughter. My little girl LOVED the book they suggested and I plan on returning to their store next weekend just to further support their efforts.

Very charming book store on King Street. I don’t know what all they have to offer because I was on a specific mission to find a Christmas gift for my niece. They have lots of unique kids books. I’m a fan of learning books for children and there was a nice section of bilingual books. I found a great multilingual puzzle that teaches kids hello in various languages.
One thing I do know is that they were busy assisting someone at the counter when I walked in, stopped to greet me, and proceeded with the customer. It was just generally a friendly atmosphere with an accommodating staff. If you’re ever in Old Town Alexandria and you get a chance to stop through, definitely check it out.
